Saturday October 23rd this Pine Tar Kush seed popped its tail out 1/2” and I stuck it gently ito a 7Gal / 26Litre flex pot💪
In my pursuit of a Classic Pine taste experience, I was introduced to this strain and it was an instant connection. Here are the goods on Pine Tar Kush from Reeferman Genetics. Guess what, its famous …
Pine Tar Kush, if you’ve smoked it, then you know!
Enjoying Pine Tar Kush provides a potent and deep physical buzz that lasts for hours. The flavor is very pine to woodsy with some citrus and skunky notes; a beautiful complexity that brings veteran smokers back to the days of lucking out and acquiring a bag of this highly sought after strain.
The nugs are text book kush. Round, firm and coated in trichomes on all parts of the bud and small bud leaves with a few firey red to orange hairs. The smell is pungent and odiferous–one of those ones you just can’t help to keep on smelling in your stash jar.
Great for relaxing, unwinding and having some social laughs—a really happy strain with strong physical potency. Sure to have you snacking and enjoying some quality horizontal time. A very potent but manageable pure Indica high.
With average THC levels of up to 22% and plenty of myrcene in the terp profile this old world beauty can compete with any modern strains for potency and often comes out ahead in terms of complexity in the flavor and aroma of the buds.
For growers, the yields are very respectable and the plants aren’t overly finicky for a true kush strain–performs well in most grow rooms and outdoors where the climate is warm and not too rainy at the tail end of the growing season.
Reeferman Genetics Pine Tar Kush plants grow fairly chunky and squat, with just a little bit of stretch in early flowering. Does great as a multi branched plant, whether you veg them out big first or pack them in tight small–very adaptable to just about any growing style. Expect big wide text book indica leaves in veg and round hard glof ball sized nugs in flower that bristle with resin glands on all parts of the bud and bud leaves by maturity. Typically ready for harvest after 8 weeks growing indoors–going for longer really brings out the terps and makes for even heavier physical effects

- alright ! Decisions are made; arriving tomorrow will be a new Mars Hydro TS1000 led light for the 2’ Tent, Baby. So many good articles and positive reviews on this newer technology, I’m in! Easy decision to make with my current scenario; cmh too hot, big led has 50% burned-out veg diodes (new discovery), etc etc. i can now breath easier and the plants will see the big benefits. Funny how things happen in real concentrated events. 3 weeks ago I had zero lite issues. Small tent is good as of tomorrow; big tent illumination is in motion !!
- Rezin will be added to tomorrow’s dinner. Menu above
Nov 23rd
- fed 2L h2o / nutes. Menu above

- scrog is working amazingly well for helping to open this plant up.
Dec 13th
- just an observation, but the FIMming that I carried-out in Nov 27th, has actually worked-out perfectly. I’ll take a few pictures tonight, but the added development at the Top of that plant is amazing, symmetrical and just a huge bud-bonus.

- now entering the 6th week of Flower, P.T.K.’s next meals to include Overdrive; re: “ last 3 weeks “
Jan 9th
- took control of the heater to finally allow for a cooler and more realistic nite-cycle. Pin-timer applied to temp controller output, using intermittent heater operation during the plants night. Here in the peoples republic of ontario, we still have coooler basements in winter so it's an easy fit.
Jan 11th,
- dinner tonight is geared towards measuring EC of run-off dammit. Lol
-lights are being lowered a bit tonight as well
- Buds have begun stacking really nicely. It was an Obvious observation this morning
Jan 12th
- plant looks spectacular this morning. Buds seem chubbier and Leaf health is radiant and reaching upward
- did Not measure EC in the run-off. not enough dinner was made. 3.5L per plant was fed with a minimal run-off. Try that again next time
- tent environment just feels good 24c @ 60% rh. light is 19” away and 100%, night-time temp is 19c avg.
- waiting another week b4 adding overdrive
- vpd chart posted. Targets: Indica 8.0 Sativa 9.0
Jan 14th
- last day of the week
- plant was fed 5L of Aerated Tea last-nite (13th)

- look-out next week, a smell is happening
Jan 15th
- soil tests tonight / photos tonight
17th
- soil ph is a tad over; 7.2 -7.3
- dinner served at a pH of 6.2
- dinner tonight; 1.5L pH’d water ran through plant first, then fed 3L nutes/water posted above. This flow caused some Run-off, but not enough to properly measure EC value
-near max on the tds, but it was the thickest dinner yet. (including molasses) follow-up tonight.
20th
- Allowing the soil to dry an xtra day
- brewing a compost tea for tomorrow’s dinner. (black willie as well) Then back on schedule
- Running 2 Aerated-Teas, staggered between heavy nutrient meals, I hope it nourishes the soil enough that we see a flourish of activity next week… - first tea with bat guano… Resting the banana lol
Jan 21,
- last day of the week… finally the tent to themselves. Congo & Mystic are gone
- tea tonight
Jan 22nd
- tonight the feeding involves Aerated Compost Tea; 4L ea. (menu above)
* compost tea looked like a cup of tea. Golden and slightly murky, the tea had reduced the nutrient load to small particles.
It just felt right feeding this liquid concoction. Will be looking for changes / surprises these next few days
- back to the G.P. liquid routine for the finish…
- Black Willie gets thirsty faster, their meals may become seperate events very soon
- due to slightly alkaline soil conditions lately, I have balanced the pH of the AC Tea to a 6.3 to help drive the Soil pH lower. Acid was diluted in cups of (good)water and added in sequence to gently drop the 8.3pH of ac tea.
24th
- brewing a tea, as listed above, for tomorrow. 2 in a row is a first. Water pH’d to 6.5 b4 adding ingredients.
Ppm @ 385 w/ingredients and bubbling
Jan 25th
- stuck with the plan and used normal Green Planet routine; 4.5L
- looked like it snowed on the buds
26th
- lifted the Scrog, no Tall threats at this stage. (Making watering to run-off so much easier)
Jan 28th
- last day of the week
- soil checks etc., dinner in a perfect world
Jan 29th
- its been a great ride to this point, and looking down upon the Pine Tar Kush and Black Willie, there is a lot of dead space I’m heating/illuminating. looking into a move to the smaller tent; 2’ x 2’ bliss might be an option
- week 9 of flower, 2 meals are planned, then its a Flush
- both P.T.K. and B. Willie have been moved to the 2’ tent. (150W vs 450W : plants fit great… easy call)
- Zero issues; Dinner tonight @ 60-70% strong, watering to run-off (might take a bit… its on me)
Ps… black willie has an extended flowering period. Could be ~ 14 weeks. These grows were all pushing-it one way or another.
- 4 down 2 to GrOw, 6 indoor since the summer. Best yet
Jan 30
- molasses included, dinner was thick. 1685ppm to be exact. It took 7L before the run off hit 1750. Mission accomplished, however the run-off pH was almost 8 ???
- will repeat on the next feed
with a small water flush followed by Nutes @ 2/3 strength
- picked a few nuisance fan-leaves for the home-stretch
- there is a “whiter” light under the Mars Hydro and a few Fan Leaves appear to be taking-on that late-flower, lighter-green tinge. (1st time noticing, week 9, love it)
31st
- putting a little LST on her tonight
Feb 3rd
- tonight was supposed to be dinner. The previous meal became a flush, in my attempt to, water to run-off… and now in week 9 I am going to follow-through with an Official Flush (Instead of any last minute efforts ie: phukn around with some super-boost yield/strength idea)… and let Nature run its course
Feb 5th
- day 1 week 10
Feb 7th
- flushed on the 3rd, check the plants weight tonight, she may get a drink (nope)
- every single Bud is seeing a lot of action (ie new growth) at the top of the blossom. And the Calyx’s are seperating themselves from the oval buds and growing independantly, outwards
- no leaf colour changes yet
Feb 8th
- plant was still moist last nite, no watering, pH checks tonight
Feb 9th
- final Flush carried-out; 7 gal flex-pot / 15 gal pH’d H20
Feb 12th,
- big flush carried-out on the 10th, looking for some yellowing of the Fan leaves this coming week
- Trichome checks shows roughly a 50/50 mix with not so much amber yet...
Feb 13th,
- fed 2 Litres of pH'd water
- light cycle reduced to 11 hours, temp dropped 0.5c as well
Feb 17th
- both plants are putting a show on, but the PTK has some unbelievable action happening on the Bud Calyx.
They have all started to bulge awkwardly and the Crystals on the Buds are getting deeper. She is going through a great phase and some of the Fan leaves are indeed Fading !!
- some of the Sugar leaves around the buds are starting to turn purple and darken
Feb 18th
- last day week 11.
- Full-on Trichome checks tonight, the last couple days the Crystals have been Laid down. She looks to be wearing all her Jewellery . Could be a short week !
Feb 19th,
-welcome to the final week for Pine Tar Kush
- 3L H20 / Molasses tonight
- snipped a low-bud from the plant and it is still not seeing a lot of Amber. Trichomes are still kind of split 50/50, but the Amber is becoming visible, that is for sure. This will be the final week.
- for a 9-10 week flowering plant, Pine Tar Kush seems pretty comfortable in early stages of week 12
Feb 20
- AND YOU CAN GUARANTEE THAT BOTH "TEST" BUDS ARE CHOPPED AND DRYING-OUT IN THE SUNSHINE, ON THE LEDGE.
- decision made, light OFF tonight 10pm
Feb 21st and there is no more light for this Lady, into the dark for 72hrs last nite @ 17-22c & 55%rh
Feb 23rd
- harvest begins tonight at dinner time. After 72 hrs of darkness she will be photographed, chopped, weighed and hung in a custom tent
For starters, Pine Tar Kush is a 💯 % Indica strain, I mistakenly have it at 100% Sativa and can't fix... One week into Hanging the bud and things have progressed beyond wet grass smell to a tent full of Dankness. Buds are still shedding moisture so they will Hang for a few more days. (yes)
Mar 4th
Earlier today, each tiny branch that holds the buds, snapped cleanly (on both plants, that is a good sign about the environment)
Mar 4th at Lunch time, 4/4 tiny bud branches snapped decidedly. Hanging is complete on Day 10 (baby) and into a container to extend a solid cure.
Feb 23rd
- tonight the Pine Tar Kush plant had seen enough of the dark, and she was harvested.
552 grams of tuff stuff.
Small tent is prepped with conditions 17-19c with 58%rh to start. small fan, moving air indirectly
- will remove consumed fan leaves in a weeks time.
- Right up there with the nicest indoor plant I may have ever grown.
26th
- had a look at the buds, all is good. you can just now smell the moisture leaving the buds. Fan leaves are toast already, so they’ll be removed in a couple days. Conditions remain the same; rh 60% 17.5c
- gravity is closing the canopy. At 1 week I will separate and snip the branches before re-hanging
** day 5 I snip the main stalk into pairs of branches, so they can have equal access to fresh air. Full branches up to and including main stalk, zero loss
March 1
- there is a sharp dank smell starting to come from these hanging buds. Drying nicely there is Still moisture being shed, gonna try to extend the hang. Fan slowed, rh55% 17.5c
- Day 7 today, since Chop on 23rd
Mar 2, in a sort of mini-celebration, when I saw how casually the plant is drying-out, I snipped a little bud. Definitely there is a sharp smell, that is now faintly Pine, and certainly fresh. 10 minutes in and I’m seeing / feeling No Indica traits what so ever. The smoke itself was endlessly Smooth, tasty and definitely carrying a big stik 😃 ha.
- definitely its a strong bud, it will keep you and your mind busy. Its sitting real nice here, first thing this morning. The Taste-test was unplanned and I’m already impressed.
In a very nice way to close this Diary out, I have actually had a Pine Tar Kush review accepted by Reeferman Genetics for this strain. Here attached is the link. Good for a giggle, and a Discount. Thanks Reeferman
and by the way, Mar 25th and I have a Pine Tar Kush included in this Summers crop o Bud... PTK seed just poked its head up. Everybody loves this Bud. Instant Fav all the way around

JUNE 17, 2022 and the Pine Tar Kush is so good we have 1
Growing outside right now. No hesitation this is a real player !
@1Right_Angle, I agree mate! It is fascinating to the point of addictive, trying to compare the smell. I think cannabis have very unique smell sometimes and it is almost impossible to compare to somethig else! Happy to see you enjoyed the harvest!
@sativaman, maybe thats what that 3rd smell was; kushy. I’m still learning Indicas hahaha so funny trying to pin a Flavour on a lungful. Good clean fun
Hey man beautiful grow, I love this strain you really do not see it nearly enough these days. One tip if I may, Once the plants finish their vertical growth by weeks 4 to 6 of flower depending on strain, We want to begin to expose the plants to a temperature swing of more than 9 degrees less when the lights are off. In veg and early flower we avoid this and keep our temp gaps close no more than 9 degrees less or they will stretch. But once they finish their vertical growth it will instead signal them to send extra energy into the budding process and resin production. Keep up the great work man cant wait to see how they turn out. If you got a minute check out my 200 light 7,000 plant diary and follow my profile and youtube for videos. Happy growing friend!
@LegacyMarketFarm, Thanks for the compliment and I TRULY appreciate the words on the nighttime DeltaT.
Those are the things I love about this site.
When people think you can handle it… good stuff happens
Count on my foot-prints !
ps, the nightime temp actually does hit 17c… so I’m there in a sense. i appreciate the comments about the timing of this environmental shift !!
VERY nice work bro. You killed this harvest top-notch work, I can't wait to see what you have in store for your next round I will be tuned in from here on out! Amazing work.
