As a RDWC grower myself, I would highly recommend adding a chiller to your setup. Root issues, in my opinion, are the only downside of growing in DWC or RDWC, but adding a chiller and some Recharge (bubbled first with an air stone for 24 hrs before adding to your res), and you will never need to worry about those roots. It is not impossible to be successful without a chiller, however, the ability to keep the root zone at 68° has had a major impact on my garden. At 68° H2O has the ability to hold much more oxygen than at 75° to 77°. That extra oxygen in the solution makes a world of difference. My 1st run in RDWC I battled high res temps and root rot as well, but since adding the chiller and some recharge to my reservoir I have not seen even a hint of root rot in the last 3 years...
