Pretty much right around the time I took that picture you see of Day 9, I started noticing something strange about this girl. Usually you get 1st node - single finger, 2nd node- 3 finger, right? Well, this girl seemed to be missing 4 fingers on her second node. Was in denial for a couple stressful days. Then when they got kinda big around Day 11, I called on my GrowDiaries community (Questions) for help and got the emotional support I needed. Apparently, this was just nature throwing a curveball that others had seen and hit out of the park before. That calmed my nerves.. Big thanks to @Organoman and @Papa_T. She was moved into her final grow tent in the loft on Day 12 and light schedule was changed to 18/6 because the loft tent is in a warmer location, so 24 hour lighting wasn't necessary. Mild downward claw around Day 14. I think this was caused by leaving the humidifier in the tent on when the lights were out, which for some reason, makes humidity skyrocket. So I attached the humidifier to the timer so that it would also turn off when appropriate. Which means getting up early to turn on the humidifier when the lights come on, but my cat likes that because it means he also gets fed at his favorite time of day. And when my plants and cats are happy, I'm happy. πŸ˜‚ Light schedule was changed to 20/4 on Day 14. LOW STRESS TRAINING BEGINS: My grows would be impossible without Low Stress Training. In fact, I do so much LST, can you really call it low-stress anymore? I have no choice but to use low-stress training to its maximum potential. Here's the math: 36 inch tall tent. Say you give 3 inches for the lamp and the cross bar holding it. Now you got 33 left. Say you want minimum 12 inches distance lamp-to-plant, now you got 21 inches. The pot and stand are 9 inches, now you got 12 inches MAX height that your plant can be. And since you don't have much room to yield vertically, in order to justify doing any of this, you have to maximize the horizontal space around the plant. You have no choice but to take every leaf and branch and say to it, "Excuse me, nope, you're going that way, dear." So step 1 of the abuse is starting this whole process when they are really young. Why so early? The trick to efficient growing, in my opinion, is giving your lamp a target to shoot at that is as big as possible as quickly as possible. Because this way, you get something called compounding growth. So LST is the remedy for both my yield and spatial concerns. The sooner you get going with it, the more likely you will have a really successful grow. I tried LST on Day 11 with an LST clip, but removed it a day later. The clip just was too big, and quite honestly, I don't think I'm going to use them for 1st LST anymore like I've been doing. The plant has to be just the right size for them to work, and the old fashioned way to do it works great as long she gives you enough leaf-stem to hold on to, know what I mean? So I reapplied LST the old-fashioned way on Day 13. She was bent down such that the single-leaf 1st node leaf was up in the air now, but her pair was under the plant. I removed that one. I like this configuration because it makes it easier for the branches you eventually get to go in a sort of N, S, E, W orientation (or if a clock, 12, 3, 6, 9 .. you get the point). Since the tent is a square prism, to maximize horizontal space opportunities, your longest branches should go into the corners of the square in a NSEW configuration to create the squar-ish shape you want/need the plant to have. Bend the seedling some other way, and wrangling the branches into a square shape becomes more difficult. Thanks for reading. Hope this was helpful somehow. Have a great grow day. Oh and by the way no other grower has ever left such an impression on me man. I love how you noted every single week and took such great pics to help me understand and on top of all that your notes as well as the nutrients and mL amounts was unbelievable helpful in teaching me to understand and feel.more comfortable in feeding! Much appreciated! Cheers

@EBxAH, Hey buddy! I went to her page. I saw Zelda getting topped. The plants look great! I'm still very new to all this so I don't know how much advice I should be offering. But with regards to defoliation, my main reason for doing it is to get light penetration somewhere usually. Then somewhere around day 65 or 70 I might do some lollipopping if I see lower leaves couldn't possibly get any light, in order to reduce humidity and improve airflow in the tent. But that's it. Hope that helps?

@TinyTenter, hey man! So my wife started some gelato, wedding cake and Zkittles autos. I made a homemade scrog for the Zkittles. I suggested to her she should do defoliation with the wedding cake and let the gelato be. Would you check out Gekyumes Mom grow diary and give an honest opinion? Or any advice? You're killing it with auto my man so I been paying attention.

@EBxAH, I mean, I only have three grows under my belt, so I'm hardly the expert. (And as for inspiration. I've been to your page, buddy. I'm pretty sure the inspiration works more the other direction.. πŸ˜‰πŸ‘). But I read somewhere someone say that early LST, like Day 11, was as good as topping, and maybe better because you preserve bud sites. The grows I've done so far have been 60-90 cm plants. Small, so topping not a need. The one I just started is 80-100 cm. Maybe I'll make the decision to top that one, but I'd prefer not to. No, my plant-size-control method-of-choice that I've been using/testing is picking the right day to switch from my blue-spectrum growth-slowing veg lamp to my red-spectrum growth-exploding blooming lamp. The later in the stretch you make this switch, the smaller the plant should be in the end. Since she's an auto, the stretch ends on the day it ends. So by retarding her stretch with the blue lamp longer, you get a smaller plant when the stretch ends. Oh. And that branch healed for me, so she wasn't topped. I think I even got an extra cola out of the spot where the break happened. Cannabis is so rewarding, even when you mess up! 😜 Have a great one!

Man thanks for all the details on this I’m in week 2 now so still a long way off but a great read and a great outcome well done man I’m hoping I have a better yield than my first grow and I’m hoping it’s good for my anxiety aswell

@Civicgrows, Thanks buddy! Look at it as a learning experience. What matters is that you keep getting better at it by learning as much as you can. The results are less important, I think. You're obviously studying, so no matter what, you are doing a great job! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘Œ

I'm running out of the stuff from my 2nd grow. parting is such sweet sorrow. πŸ˜’πŸ˜‚. Have a great grow day!! And thanks again! i copied everything I do from other people, so who am I to claim copyright on anything? I just hope whatever you steal works for you. I change my mind a lot so stay tuned to my grows! lol Take care.

Is that a 2x2x3 grow tent bro? Btw you definitely mastered the low stress training! What an amazing grow! Cheers
TinyTenter
TinyTenter
@LstNlsd, Yeah. It's a 2x2x3. It's all that I could fit in here, really. And if you are gonna flower in something like that, LST/ScrOG becomes SUPER essential. I took cues from GrowWeedEasy.com's article about how to grow in a mini-tent, and it started from there. Adopted/created some new techniques along the way. But yeah. Nebula Haze is really the muse behind this grow. I'd love to give her thanks in person. She positively changed my life a bit. But thanks so much for your kind words. Super appreciated.

You are very afraid of light burn. Believe me, with modern LED it is almost impossible to burn the leafs with too much heat! All effects you see, are no light burn at all. If you want to see real light burn effect, you have to hang the light 1-2 inches away from the next leaf. You can test this, if you dont believe me. Maybe on an older plant, because then it is not much damage. You can hang your lights only 10 inches away, because then your plant can collect much more light. Important, is the temperature of the leafs, not the air! The leaf should not have more than 28Β° Celsius. FraFra
