I’ve got a plan! So because it’s my first grow I want to experiment a little.Snow White will be growing as normal, no LST or topping. Dopey will be topped around 4th node. (At least 1 week before flowering)Lazy will be topped and LST. Hopefully this sounds like a good plan to gain some experience and experiment to see what works best, any advice will be appreciated.

Tempature in grow tent is a little high, will add an additional fan to keep the tempature around 25 and will open more vents on tent for better air circulation, temp hits around 27/28 degrees when closed.

Here is my diary for my first grow ever! I’ve chosen 3 x Royal Dwarf seeds to start with as I have heard they are relatively easy for a first time grower and give decent results.
All 3 have germinated successfully and have been nicknamed accordingly, 1 far left is “Snow White”, middle is “Dopey ” and right is “Lazy”.
Lazy was close to being binned, during germination her roots were very short and very fat under the soil, unlike the others whose roots had dug deep down the soil by that point - however I gave her a chance, and thank god i did as she corrected herself overnight and is now looking more healthy.
I am using coco soil and a 200W CFL light with reflector on a 20/4 schedule, this is a low budget grow hence the use of the CFL light. It’s also my first ever grow so any advice or tips are kindly accepted :skin-tone-2:
I am using a small amount of nutes during my grow and will be flushing a few weeks before harvest if all goes well.

Grow Questions
ItsLegalInMyHouse week 1 started grow question 2 years ago
Hi everyone, I need some advice here. I am currently using a 200W dual spectrum CFL for Vegatation however I know that I will require a more powerful setup for flowering, if I want to get a good yield from all 3 plants.

Can anyone tell me what would be better, HPS or LED?

So the solution is easy but depends all of your cash budget, I explain better: Led light consume a lot less power and have better results in all the stages considering the low heat produced too, HPS instead cost a lot less but produces lot of heat and consume a lot of power. So I usually raccomand led light (more compact- high efficiency- low heat production)

Tell me If this answer was useful for you or not, I can give you some advice about what led u can buy on budget.

Defoliation, is it worth it? It’s the start of week 5, my 3 plants are growing in a tight tent and the leaves are starting to cross between them. I’m worried that the smaller plants won’t get enough light but I’ve never defoliated before and I am nervous to try. any advice? :)

Hi there ! If some lower bud sites and your smaller plants can't get enough light then I would do defoliation. You don't need to remove the whole leaf , if only few parts of it are obscuring the light then cut them instead of the whole leaf ! You are in the first week of stretch so if you don't really want to give a defoliation a try , you can also
knit your leaves together to increase light penetration !!:+1:

Hi all!

I was checking on my plants and noticed one of them is showing yellow/brown spots in some the top leaves, only showing on 1 plant but I’m nervous it’s leaf septoria?? The plant is in week 10 and is my last pic on week 10 diary. Does anyone know what this could be? :)

Hi @ItsLegalInMyHouse! This looks more like a nutrients deficiency or excess in the past weeks, leaf septoria creates round-shaped yellow&brown spots, you're just having a slight yellowing between the veins. Enjoy your harvest! :facepunch:

Congratulations on being legal! That’s a load off your mind, eh?
You don’t specify but I’m guessing these are auto fems based upon the light schedule.
Good luck, but you’ll do fine I’m sure.
You could be in any of 20% of these great United States and be legal now. Let’s make it all 50! LETS MAKE IT GLOBAL!

@growdoctordc, haha definitely less paranoia now! Yeah these are autos so I’ve given them a nice in between light schedule  and absolutely! Let’s stop the reefer madness! I’m happy to see people starting to open there eyes to these beautiful plants in a more positive way :seedling::eyes: it’s great medicine for me :ok_hand::skin-tone-2:

If you need to boost your light output (you should at least for blooming) for cheap you can use 14w led bulbs. They are real cheap and got alot of lumens.

@dandaru, holly molly how is that happening ? i thought this wouldn't be such an issue with LEDs !

ItsLegalInMyHouse
ItsLegalInMyHouse

@dandaru, I’ve never ha d a Powerful LED so your experience is good to know, maybe I can purchase LED - let it run in the tent on its own for a few hours and see what temp the tent hits :) if the temp is good then I can just stick to LED :)

Thats a good Plan but be careful LEDs will heat your Box too. Im using a Mars hydro reflector "420w" (real 187w) and 2 bulbs and ive trouble with too much heat (room temp 22°c and inside the Box 28-31°c

Best of luck for your 1st grow. It’s exciting, and all I can say is to ask questions and research as much as you can. If done right you will be rewarded nicely for your efforts!!!

@MagicMikesMeds, thanks for providing me with some more food for thought in terms of what type of lighting to use, I think I will be heading down the LED route however because it’s a low budget grow I am looking to go with something a bit less power hungry such as 300W, do you reckon this and my 200W CFL will be sufficient enough for all 3 plants? I may be scrapping the CFL completely...

@MagicMikesMeds, agreed : i'm on HPS 600 right now for my first grow and the heat is riddiculous, as is running an AC full time, and so will my electricity bill be ! live and learn but if its summer get an LED for sure.

@ItsLegalInMyHouse, I saw your question about your lighting situation and personally I would look into a COB LED setup. I had a Kind 750 at first, but the footprint was not right for a 5x5 tent. I yielded 16.5 oz’s off of 6 plants. I immediately realized that the light was not right for my room so I upgraded to a true 900w “Fatty VS” from Timber Grow Lights and my next round I harvested 37.25 oz’s off of only 3 plants. The price of the LED’s is much higher, but I think the results speak for themselves as my energy costs are considerably less than using other types of 1000 watt lighting options as there is very minimal heat from the LED’s compared to other 1000 watt sources. I have friends that grow with HPS and the initial investment was significantly less, however, they are paying much more to operate as they need an AC unit to keep their room in an acceptable temperature range whereas I do not. If you can pony up the $ for a nice 1k LED, it will end up paying for itself relatively quickly... just my 2 cents...
