Grow Questions

LLJavelinstarted grow question 6 years ago
I have a 150W (50 3w LEDS) and a 300W (60 5w LEDS). I've been using just the 300W for the entire grow in my grow box which is only 4' X 1.5' X 1.1' Does anyone think I should be using the 150W light at any point in the grow, and if so, when?

I grow with LED for few years now, depending on your fixture and it's coverage you won't need to use additional lights, just lower the fixture in flower to get more intensity (recommended for veg 500-800 umol/m2/s, for flower +800), naturally if you put more power in you get more yield...it's your call, if you want it- do it when switching to flower, also think about the heat dispatch and your ventilation sys- can it take it? when using LED your temp should be higher than when utilizing traditional systems without use of CO2- about 29-30* is perfectly fine, also humidity level will fall and you should keep an eye on it ;) till week 3 flo- 60%, then 50-60% till 3 weeks before harvest- and 40% in those 3 weeks for good hard nugs and a nice resin coat, good luck with ur grow

Yeah, I start 4, wean out the weakest two, then put the hardiest one in the center, but leave a secondary in case of major failure. Usually the secondary gets stunted but this time its actually outgrowing the primary, and I cant bring myself to yank it! In the past I've defoliated earlier but this time I thought I'd wait a bit longer, and I did take some off already. I also supercropped the secondary (you cant tell because it recovered in less than a day). Thanks for the suggestions!

What I meant to ask was whether I should be using the 150 INSTEAD of the 300, like in the first couple weeks, since the box is so small (18" x 13" x 4'). With the light hanging down about 8" and the tub is 9" high, I only have a total of 31", making the actual grow space 18x13x31. The box comes with the 150 with an option for a 300 so I got it, but havent used the 150 at all yet.

@LLJavelin, I would keep up the same light you have on them now. They look really happy. That said, you might want to look into defoliation and lst. You have a lot of plant in there and the lower areas are going to suffer without light. However, go easy on it, don't take too much off them. Either way, you now have a jungle in the box. Next time you might want to do just one plant. Good luck!

Plants were 2 inches from the lights and too late to supercrop again, no room to LST, so I came up with the idea of pushing the net pots into the basin and letting the plants settle to the bottom, which gave me 4-5 more inches of clearance. Anyone think this was a bad idea?

temp was never 90, I mistyped. It was at 80 during week one due my A/C not functioning right, but its under control now.

@LLJavelin so if I'm correct here, your lights are directly above the fans pictured? Or higher? I have a much smaller grow box and I found out the hard way it's not too soon to supercrop. It will add a couple of weeks onto your grow, but you will have fatter colas in the end. Given your situation, I would get 2 or 3 hanging cfls, and drop them down in front, effectively hitting the under carriage. And bend at 90 degree angle all the top colas about 7 inches or so. (This is what I had to do). Yes it was scary, and yes it added on about 2 more weeks to the grow, but if you look at my harvest grow you can see it paid off. I was scared to do it but my plants literally grew up and over the top of my light. I did it in panic mode but the other choice was to keep letting them burn touching the light (not good). What happened in the end was that my colas grew nice and fat, and it took 2 more weeks to harvest.

Hi @LLJavelin! Plant looks great and the room looks small, I won't recommend to add any light unless you're sure you can control your temperature. I'm afraid adding a light may lead you into the dangerous temp zone, however if you can handle this issue, another light with the right spectrum will help buds to fatten up. Hope this will help, keep us up-to-date and happy growing 👊

I would suggest you get that ph to 5.8, and try to get the temp down, 90 is too high unless you have a water chiller and some co2. Just my 2 cents, but all that heat can cause the hermie.

this strain is growing too tall too fast ... supercropping didn't slow em down more than a day.

@LLJavelin, you need another grow box bro, or add a floodlight haha, they're stretching already and they're gonna stretch a whole lot more 🚀

how many days do you flush a DWC? Do you ever switch the lights to 8-16 before harvest, and if so, how many days prior?
