March 21, 2023 Skywalker OG: Day 59 DLI: 45 at canopy Height: 37.5" Wedding Glue: Day 52 DLI: 30 Height: 13.5" This week will focus more on watering and making adjustments for Wedding Glue as she moves into flower. Skywalker OG is doing wonderfully. Her buds are really starting to swell. I'm excited to see the end result. She is steadily working her top watering and the reservoir. She also got an increase in her nutrients. Fish Shit is back at 3ml and I've increased tiger bloom up to 7ml. Wedding Glue is 13.5" tall, but super full and lush. Her pre-flower time is almost at an end. And she is taking in massive amounts of water. Even after top feeding yesterday, she also dried out the reservoir overnight. Another refill. She's definitely thirsty and still leveling out her soil moisture. She got a nutrient increase today as well. Now she's getting 4ml of each micro, grow and bloom advanced nutrients as well as 3ml of Fish Shit Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.5° RH: 54.6% VPD: 1.25 kPa March 22, 2023 Today is rather exciting. First, Skywalker OG not only cleared out the reservoir overnight, she also put on some noticable weight. I had to fill the reservoir back up and top feed a bit more. However, I'm seeing no signs of under or over watering. So there's that. Honestly, kinda confused with that. Wedding Glue grew an inch last night. I also looked through the canopy and realized the abundance of bud sites that are still hidden by the massive fan leaves. When she finishes her stretch, she's definitely getting defoliated. She also got a bit more top feed today. Just a few hundred ml. The middle of the soil is pretty crunchy and dry. It should be fine now. No signs of over or under watering. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.5° RH: 55% VPD: 1.24 kPa March 23, 2023 Still dialing in their watering. Wedding Glue was the empty one today. She already started feeling light so she got a top feed about half gallon, and a reservoir refill. She also hasn't stretched much at all. However, she is getting wider with tons of bud sites ready to be exposed to the light. I won't be defoliating until next week, just to be sure she has actually finished her stretch. She is really full and lush. Definitely a bit too full. I'll be checking her water levels periodically today. Skywalker OG has a half full reservoir but seems to be enjoying the wet soil for now. Her buds are noticably fattening up day to day. She still has plenty of time to bulk up and it's not even at that critical fattening stage yet. The lowest buds are also thick, glistening with trichomes and look great in their own right. Hopefully they end up being good smoke. Side note: I learned the other day that living soil needs constant moisture to work to its fullest. Living microbes slow production during dry periods. Keeping a constant even moisture level is the best method. In that case, I would assume a drip system or, in my case, bottom feed with a weekly top feed would work best. Or at least keeping the moisture level around 45% maybe 55%... Somewhere around there. I also learned that flushing living soil is basically pointless, so there's that as well. I think my issue was not starting the soil at the ideal level and working the soil with the seedlings. I think I just missed getting the whole pot at the right level for the bottom feed system to actually work from the start. Anyway, if anyone is reading this, leave a comment with your thoughts. I'd love to hear opinions and theories on the concept. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.7° RH: 57.5% VPD: 1.22 kPa March 24, 2023 So I had to ask the question today about finally defoliating Wedding Glue. She hasn't stretched in a couple days and stopped at 14.5" maybe she's just super squat. Anyway, I haven't defoliated yet and am worried if it's still too early. I don't think so though. She seems to be in full swing flower. There are a ton of covered bud sites and she is way too bushy. Anyway... Wedding Glue is doing great! Still very lush and great colors. Lots of pistil production. She's definitely in full flower now. So I had to raise her up closer to the light. She is now at a perfect DLI of 45. Exactly the recommended intensity. The soil moisture level finally leveled out to around 50%. She will most likely get another top feeding next week. Now it will be easier to keep up with. Skywalker OG is fantastic! Her buds are getting much bigger and trichome production is looking great as well. Very nice cone shapes. And very uniform. She has also leveled out her moisture content. Light penetration is super deep. Air flow is excellent. She seems to have a slight bit of light burn? Just on the very top top, but it could be a naturally occurring color change. Not worried. Excellent aroma. Strong. Unfortunately it's starting to get a bit humid here now that spring is here. I ended up buying a tiny dehumidifier for the tent and a bigger one for outside the tent. Hopefully it will keep everything where it needs to be for the summer without overheating the tent. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.4° RH: 56.8% VPD: 1.18 Update: the answer was easy enough. She was too bushy and is now defoliated. I'm not sure, but I think I may have pulled too much. Or not? They were all big leaves with purple stems. Air flow is opened up and bud sites are also visible. There are still quite a few sites left, but I didn't want to take too much. She definitely felt it. She's dropping now. Lots of stress. 🤔🤔 Not sure if this is good. I'll find out. March 25, 2023 Skywalker OG is really amazing. I have no idea what her yield will be, but it will be a decent amount... I think. Her buds are growing really fast. They are getting super chunky, even on the lower half of the canopy. The light penetration is great. however, because she only has a corner of the tent, I have been rotating her every morning to make sure every part of the plant gets even lighting. What's really nice is that she's not leafy at the buds. Much better for trimming. She's perfect with watering now. Everything is leveled out and didn't need watering today. Finally. Wedding Glue is also looking great. She took really well to the defoliation and already started to fill back out. She has a ton of bud sites, and her internodal spacing is really short. Might be a bad thing? My only concern is her size. How big will those buds get? On the other hand, her branches are super stiff and couldn't be trained even if I wanted to. That being said, hopefully they will grow thick buds that cover her entire canopy. She also did not need watering today. I'll keep an eye though. Grow System Environment: Temp: 71.8° RH: 54.4% VPD: 1.19 kPa Update: my dehumidifiers arrived today. Perfect size. Both are now in the tent clearing out the extra moisture. It will take a couple hours for them to acclimate. And the temp will come up a few degrees as well. Very happy. I also turned the intensity down 10%. It seems to be the sweet spot now. Hopefully it will take some of the stress off of Skywalker OG. And Wedding Glue also started to pray slightly. Very happy for that. March 26, 2023 Today is another bottom feed for Wedding Glue. She completely dried up the reservoir last night... Again. She's still super short, but the massive amount of bud sites completely makes up for it. Hopefully she will completely fill her canopy with tops. Skywalker OG continues to bulk up. And looks great in that aspect, but I have an issue with browning leaves up top, but it's also happening at the lower bud sites as well. Some is getting purple, so I'm wondering if I should be worried or not. I believe it's light burn, but the light isn't intense enough to burn the lower sites. Or is it a PH issue? See pictures. Grow System Environment: Temp: 71.6° RH: 55.6% VPD: 1.15 kPa March 27, 2023 Wedding Glue has officially finished growing at 15". She is much shorter than I expected. So hopefully her plethora of buds makes up for it. They look pretty good too. She's still filling back out and a lot of the top leaves are maturing. I may look to do another defoliation in a week? Maybe nothing? I'm not sure. Lots of sites are being covered. She's also quite thirsty. Sucking up an easy 2 liters a day. She's getting topped off daily as well with her soil staying at a 53% moisture level. She seems happy there. I also lifter up a couple of inches to get her oser to the light. I'd say she's right at the sweet spot. Skywalker OG is doing fantastic. Her buds are getting thicker and bigger everyday. They're not as heavy as I was hoping, but there is definitely more time left on her. At least 10 days. Maybe more? She's drinking at a nice steady pace now. I'd say close to 1.5 liters a day. It's hard to tell. She's in living soil, so I know to not let it dry out. I figure keeping her in the correct moisture level is better than the fluctuation of wet to dry. I'm probably wrong, but if I am, I'll learn. I'm also going to add some cal-mag today when it gets here. Hopefully that helps with the spotting. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.7° RH: 55.4% VPD: 1.20 kPa

Best to get a light meter. Photone or tentbuddy. Not sure what works on what phone but look into a meter for sure . Tentbuddy gives u outlines for veg and flower along with a VPD Calculator. It's hard to just say "lift it 24in above" the light meter will get u in the best range.

Why is my Wedding Glue Auto so short? She's healthy as can be. The issue here is that she is in day 30 with zero signs of upward growth and only 5.5" tall. Can I fix this somehow? Huge leaves though. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Look at the diary to see.

She is growing slowly.. But, I can see she's only around pushing up her 5 or so set of nodes. She will get bigger. She's just slow going atm.. had the same thing with my lemon pie and took her ages to flip. She'll put on most of her height during pre flower. Idk her traits but she looks mainly indica with her big fat leafs. Indicas grow much lower and have more girt. Sativas grow higher that have less girt. But, sometimes plants especially autos are unpredictable. Wouldnt worry about it to much. Good growing

After much research, I couldn't find anything on how to properly handle a really short plant. Does anyone have a thought about this? Or how to induce extra stretch? This is for documentation and research for this particular grow situation. Please see week 5 entries. Thanks all!

Just don’t. Not with your set up. It will stretch upon initiation of flower. It’s an auto, those ruderalis genetics are like that

Looking for suggestions and opinions on "light defoliation". What percentage of leaves are removed during a light defoliation? This is for my short bushy Wedding Glue. Should I just remove the biggest fan leaves and call it a day? Thanks all!

No need for defol right now. You’re at a critical point you don’t want to hinder anything. You have a great even canopy. Let her be.

I'd say leave her be my guy. You need those leaves for photosynthesis. To make those nice beautiful flowers! Besides she doesn't really have an abundance of leaves from what I can see. I hope this helps.

I've always wondered this and never asked. Should all cannabis plants go through senescence? I only ask because I've only ever had 1 plant that went through it. Am I harvesting too early? Or does it even matter? These are autoflower grows.

If you're nailing the nutrition, don't do a pre-harvest flush, and the genetics don't support it, then there's a good chance you won't see senescence and there's nothing wrong with that. As long as you're happy with the trichomes on your grow, then no one can you tell it's the wrong time to harvest. There's a lot of debate about "flushing" and what it can or can't do for your plant (including a lot of recent research on this). Many top professional farms don't flush at all and as a result they see little to no senescence in their crop. That said, I always flush - probably due to habit and/or bro-science - and I do always see a "fade" as a result. I've no way or telling you if this actually improved the smoke or quality though. Latest research suggests that it doesn't really help, but that probably won't stop me doing it every harvest! 😂

I normally don't ask more than one question a week, but I believe I'm at a critical point with my wedding glue. She hasn't grown at all in the last 2 days at 14.5". I haven't defoliated yet because of stretch, but I think she's done. Should I defoliate or wait a few more days?

Another question?! Anyway, what the hell is this browning? I think it's light burn. But why is it lower too? PH? Magnesium? Nitrogen toxicity? Par: 1300 PPFD Fox Farm tiger bloom 7 ml/gal. Fish Shit 3 ml/gal. See diary for environmental conditions. Thanks for the help. Again.

That is helpful @Prilyfe13. I think we can definitely narrow it down to two things - a lack of Calcium (which matches your description of brown dots progressively getting worse and becoming more blocky), and possible light burn. If the issue is only affecting the very top of the plant nearest the light, then I believe you may have hit the nail on the head with light burn. Looking at your photo dated 19th March, the issue wasn't present in it's current form then, but I can see the sides of the leaves starting to curl up. This is THE classic light burn symptom. It begins on the sides of the leaves (rather than the tips, like nutrient burn) and then progresses inwards. But, you've obviously described a classic calcium deficiency as well, as I said... so perhaps it's six of one and half-dozen of the other! When it comes to living soil, I am certainly no expert, but my understanding is that you don't generally need to add too much in the way of nutrients as this is mostly in the soil already. Hopefully someone with more experience than me in this field will be able to help you... That said, if you don't get any more expert advice, I would probably err on the side of caution and raise/dim the lights (as you have done) and then maybe incorporate some Cal-Mag into the next few feeds, just to be sure it's getting enough. I don't think I've ever seen calcium or magnesium toxicity myself, so if you're using the small recommended doses, I can't see that it would cause any harm even if it doesn't need it. RE: Fish shit - I don't think this is the cause. So long as you're only using the recommended dosages, it should be fine. RE: an equipment list - don't even get us started or it will never end lol. All you technically need is air, water, soil and the sun... that doesn't explain why my spare room looks like the inside of Area 51's weapons testing facility. 😂 PH and TDS/EC meters are great, but I managed to grow successfully for years without them - particularly growing in soil which is much more forgiving. Its the same with basically every growing accessory I own. The main thing, to me, is managing the growing environment: keeping humidity high in veg and low in flower, keeping temps in the ideal range in the day and at night, etc. Those are the hardest things to do as you might be fighting against building itself, weather and geography etc, which are not battles that can be easily won. In future, if you want to keep your plants smaller and spread out the canopy more to avoid light burn and increase the PPFD or what would otherwise be lower branches, I would recommend that you start practicing LST or SCROG'ing, but that's more a technique than an accessory - other than the plant ties you'll need to make LST'ing easy. 😁 Good luck!

Hi, I follow @LegacyMarketFarm here and on you tube. He indicated there should be final defoliation 3rd week after flowers start. This forces energy to all remaining bud sites. I did this with my plants to keep down any mold issues since I couldn't control humidity. .I will say, however, there are many different thoughts on the 3rd defoliation. Happy growing and have fun 👍

If this was my grow, I would be watering from the top since she's not taking it up from the wicking and is drying out.... the last thing you want is for your entire plant to turn crispy. Water until there's some runoff and then wait to see if the runoff is soaked back up into the pot - if it is, give more water until it stops soaking it back up and then throw away the excess... Good luck!

What do I do with this overly leafy plant? I'm pretty sure the foliage caused very airy buds and tops. What should I do here? Major defoliation before 48 hours of dark? Leave it, cut the branches off when harvested and run a dry trim or with this should I run wet trim? Thanks!

This plant is looking beautiful! I would not recommend to defoliate this late in the growing phase. Just make sure that there will be enough moving air around this plant to prevent fungals. The only advice that I can give to you for this plant is to cut down the nutrients a bit. You are giving too much. 75% from what you are giving now is more then enough till harvest.
