April 4, 2023 Skywalker OG: Day 74 Wedding Glue: Day 67 This week we are focusing on water and flowering. Skywalker OG is in the final stage of her life. She's getting some orange pistils. Covered in trichomes. And heavy. She got a top plain watering today. Kind of like a flush, but I'm in living soil so more like runoff. So she should be good for the next few days. I'm guessing about a week before I need to start checking trichomes. Maybe a bit less. Wedding Glue is also looking great. She's holding her water quite well. And I absolutely had to snip some leaves off. She is just so bushy. Only mature leaves that were covering buds. So like 20 leaves. Smh. So many leaves and so many buds. I'll have to work on that more. She has a wonderful sweet smell. Buds are looking great! Trichomes are much more prominent now. She stacked about a half inch over the past couple of days. I hope for some more stacking. It looks like it will happen. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.1° RH: 54.2% (super high humidity today.) VPD: 1.25 kPa April 5, 2023 Not much to report today. Skywalker OG is still blooming big fat flowers. Pistils are turning orange now. She's also taking in less water. Wedding Glue is taking a decent amount of water. About a half gallon yesterday. I'm going to leave her for now and let the moisture in the soil drop a bit. Her buds are building at a steady pace. She already has a fairly strong smell. Sickly sweet. Pungent. Trichome production just kicked into high gear on her. A great sign for some frosty nugs. I am a bit concerned with how bushy she still is. She needs more open space. Definitely not enough for all her bud sites. I ended up clipping off some of the mature leaves that were sitting on top of a bud or another leaf. More bud focused though. I have. Ton of air flow in the tent, so I'm not too worried about moisture so much as light penetration to the lower buds. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.7° RH: 56.1% (very muggy day) VPD: 1.17 kPa April 6, 2023 It's still very humid today. I have another dehumidifier coming today as well. For the main room. (bedroom) Skywalker OG is just getting heavier and heavier. I'm also starting to see some purple. Purple fade? I don't think Skywalker OG is a purple strain. She needs no watering and is definitely slowing down on intake as well. Skywalker OG leveled out at 45% soil moisture. So did Wedding Glue actually. Interesting. They are different soil types. I guess cannabis likes 40% to 45%. Wedding Glue had some more leaves removed today. I'm slowly chipping away at her jungle of foliage. I only have one more side to look through. She is looking much better now, but still needs that one side and she will be perfect. She got a reservoir refill today as well. She has also started 5 ml/gal Fox Farm Tiger Bloom. Advanced Nutrients is up to 6 ml/gal. She's getting frosty too. Lots of trichomes and spreading to the fan leaves. Very excited. I wonder if she will turn purple. She is a purple strain after all. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.5° RH: 61.2% (very humid) VPD: 1.07 kPa April 7, 2023 Skywalker OG is getting super fat and looks really dense. Another 6 days. She's going to end up beastly. Less water intake. A couple more orange pistils. Wedding Glue is getting plump buds. They look dense and covered in pistils. Trichomes just burst into existence as well. She's covered. Water intake is steady. Smell is very sweet. So nice. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.5° RH: 55.7% VPD: 1.22 kPa April 8, 2023 Both ladies got a reservoir refill today. I added 6 ml cal/mag with Skywalker OG. So hopefully that clears up any possible issues. I can't tell if she adjusted out of that deficiency. Skywalker OG is heavy. Really heavy. I moved her pot just a tiny bit and the whole plant swayed enough to give a sense of her total weight and she is heavy. I wanna say a 3 lb plant? Maybe a little less, but she is in balance with a 5 lb container. Maybe 6 lb. Either way, this is going to be a wonderful harvest. I'm also starting to see a bit more purple in the buds. Very nice. Super frosty too. An interesting observation I had today was the pistils. The lower pistils started turning orange before the top. I mean, if that's the case, then wouldn't the lower buds now be just as potents and possibly as dense as the top colas? Every bud sites is now getting orange, but there are certainly more as you go down the plant. Odd. Wedding Glue is looking great as well. Her buds are getting fatter and trichome production is vigorous to say the least. I had to snip a few more leaves today. They were covering more bud sites. I'll check again tomorrow and maybe have to snip a few more. But I'm not taking more than a few each day if I have to. The leaves move around based on the light, so they cover and uncover buds. Plus, more airflow isn't a bad thing. An interesting observation with her as well. She is in 50/50 Fox Farm Ocean Forest and Happy Frog. I think having the Advanced Nutrients the whole grow helped keep her going. I'm not sure how much the soil has left of nutrients. No deficiencies or issues at all. Just short. I wonder how she will react to the Tiger Bloom I just started. Oh! And because this isn't living soil, I might get some nice colorful fade when I flush her. Sweet. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.2° RH: 53% VPD: 1.28 kPa April 9, 2023 FROST! Holy trichomes, Batman! Skywalker OG is covered top to bottom in trichomes. Sticky, smelly, beautiful trichomes! She's slowing her water intake even more. Buds are getting bigger still. Flowers are more prominent. Seeing a bit more purple. I also discovered the cal mag issue was not stopped at first. I think it's fixed now, but it did get to the lowest node eventually. She got a 6 ml dose of cal mg yesterday. So that should do it. She has like 5 days left. I don't want her to have anymore stress at all. I'd also like to point out that I rotate each plant a quarter everyday, so they get equal amounts of light on all sides. Wedding Glue is also getting super frosty. I pulled a couple leaves off her today. She's thirsty. Bud production is looking fantastic. I'm still concerned about how dense she is. But I really don't want to defoliate again. Maybe the last week or so of flower? Last few days? I dunno. She's already finishing up week 3 of flower. I'd rather her focus on bud production than stress from defoliation. Maybe the way to go is to pull a few leaves a day from specific locations. I'll also make sure to pull only mature leaves. The ones with the purple stems. I still have good airflow, so I'm not concerned too much. But condensation between the leaves is still a possibility. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.7° RH: 50.9% VPD: 1.31 kPa April 10, 2023 Today, I snipped off more mature leaves on top of Wedding Glue. Just the ones overshadowing the canopy. Some that weren't getting light and a couple in the canopy. She still needs more leaves off, but she's getting close to the end of the window. Maybe one more trimming tomorrow then that's it. Just to get the rest of the big top leaves doing more harm than good. These buds are getting big pretty quickly. I'm hoping for more density so I can clip more leaves for space. She is super smelly and sticky. I may run a flush this week. Her reservoir is almost dried up, so I'm just waiting for the container to dry out to around 20%. Skywalker OG is just amazing. She's not going to get a "flush" because I'm using living soil, but I plan on dumping a full gallon of water from the top when she dries up. Most will drain to the reservoir and hopefully pull some of the synthetic nutrients out. She's nearly done. Another 4 or 5 days maybe? Very excited for the harvest results. The whole plant has a decent amount of weight to her. Top heavy and nearly counter balancing the 50% moisture filled soil. Like 6 lbs. A very good sign. One or 2 of the middle branches are starting to get weighed down. I expect her to tighten up over the next couple of days. She has a massively heavy scent. It's wonderful. I can't really tell the true smell with the Wedding Glue in there as well. But they both smell wonderful. Skywalker is super super sticky. She is covered and I mean covered in trichomes. Some of the lower buds are so dense in trichomes, the buds almost look white. I'm definitely gonna grow this again and again. Love me a Skywalker. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.9° RH: 50.3% VPD: 1.34 kPa

Anyone have any advice on what mix ratio I should use with Fox Farm Happy Frog and Ocean Forest with Autoflowers? I've only ever used living soil. I also have Advanced Nutrients PH perfect base nutrients and Lotus Nutrients if needed. Tiger Bloom too. Thanks!

Best to get a light meter. Photone or tentbuddy. Not sure what works on what phone but look into a meter for sure . Tentbuddy gives u outlines for veg and flower along with a VPD Calculator. It's hard to just say "lift it 24in above" the light meter will get u in the best range.

Why is my Wedding Glue Auto so short? She's healthy as can be. The issue here is that she is in day 30 with zero signs of upward growth and only 5.5" tall. Can I fix this somehow? Huge leaves though. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Look at the diary to see.

She is growing slowly.. But, I can see she's only around pushing up her 5 or so set of nodes. She will get bigger. She's just slow going atm.. had the same thing with my lemon pie and took her ages to flip. She'll put on most of her height during pre flower. Idk her traits but she looks mainly indica with her big fat leafs. Indicas grow much lower and have more girt. Sativas grow higher that have less girt. But, sometimes plants especially autos are unpredictable. Wouldnt worry about it to much. Good growing

After much research, I couldn't find anything on how to properly handle a really short plant. Does anyone have a thought about this? Or how to induce extra stretch? This is for documentation and research for this particular grow situation. Please see week 5 entries. Thanks all!

Looking for suggestions and opinions on "light defoliation". What percentage of leaves are removed during a light defoliation? This is for my short bushy Wedding Glue. Should I just remove the biggest fan leaves and call it a day? Thanks all!

No need for defol right now. You’re at a critical point you don’t want to hinder anything. You have a great even canopy. Let her be.

I'd say leave her be my guy. You need those leaves for photosynthesis. To make those nice beautiful flowers! Besides she doesn't really have an abundance of leaves from what I can see. I hope this helps.

I've always wondered this and never asked. Should all cannabis plants go through senescence? I only ask because I've only ever had 1 plant that went through it. Am I harvesting too early? Or does it even matter? These are autoflower grows.

If you're nailing the nutrition, don't do a pre-harvest flush, and the genetics don't support it, then there's a good chance you won't see senescence and there's nothing wrong with that. As long as you're happy with the trichomes on your grow, then no one can you tell it's the wrong time to harvest. There's a lot of debate about "flushing" and what it can or can't do for your plant (including a lot of recent research on this). Many top professional farms don't flush at all and as a result they see little to no senescence in their crop. That said, I always flush - probably due to habit and/or bro-science - and I do always see a "fade" as a result. I've no way or telling you if this actually improved the smoke or quality though. Latest research suggests that it doesn't really help, but that probably won't stop me doing it every harvest! 😂

I normally don't ask more than one question a week, but I believe I'm at a critical point with my wedding glue. She hasn't grown at all in the last 2 days at 14.5". I haven't defoliated yet because of stretch, but I think she's done. Should I defoliate or wait a few more days?

That is helpful @Prilyfe13. I think we can definitely narrow it down to two things - a lack of Calcium (which matches your description of brown dots progressively getting worse and becoming more blocky), and possible light burn. If the issue is only affecting the very top of the plant nearest the light, then I believe you may have hit the nail on the head with light burn. Looking at your photo dated 19th March, the issue wasn't present in it's current form then, but I can see the sides of the leaves starting to curl up. This is THE classic light burn symptom. It begins on the sides of the leaves (rather than the tips, like nutrient burn) and then progresses inwards. But, you've obviously described a classic calcium deficiency as well, as I said... so perhaps it's six of one and half-dozen of the other! When it comes to living soil, I am certainly no expert, but my understanding is that you don't generally need to add too much in the way of nutrients as this is mostly in the soil already. Hopefully someone with more experience than me in this field will be able to help you... That said, if you don't get any more expert advice, I would probably err on the side of caution and raise/dim the lights (as you have done) and then maybe incorporate some Cal-Mag into the next few feeds, just to be sure it's getting enough. I don't think I've ever seen calcium or magnesium toxicity myself, so if you're using the small recommended doses, I can't see that it would cause any harm even if it doesn't need it. RE: Fish shit - I don't think this is the cause. So long as you're only using the recommended dosages, it should be fine. RE: an equipment list - don't even get us started or it will never end lol. All you technically need is air, water, soil and the sun... that doesn't explain why my spare room looks like the inside of Area 51's weapons testing facility. 😂 PH and TDS/EC meters are great, but I managed to grow successfully for years without them - particularly growing in soil which is much more forgiving. Its the same with basically every growing accessory I own. The main thing, to me, is managing the growing environment: keeping humidity high in veg and low in flower, keeping temps in the ideal range in the day and at night, etc. Those are the hardest things to do as you might be fighting against building itself, weather and geography etc, which are not battles that can be easily won. In future, if you want to keep your plants smaller and spread out the canopy more to avoid light burn and increase the PPFD or what would otherwise be lower branches, I would recommend that you start practicing LST or SCROG'ing, but that's more a technique than an accessory - other than the plant ties you'll need to make LST'ing easy. 😁 Good luck!

Hi, I follow @LegacyMarketFarm here and on you tube. He indicated there should be final defoliation 3rd week after flowers start. This forces energy to all remaining bud sites. I did this with my plants to keep down any mold issues since I couldn't control humidity. .I will say, however, there are many different thoughts on the 3rd defoliation. Happy growing and have fun 👍

If this was my grow, I would be watering from the top since she's not taking it up from the wicking and is drying out.... the last thing you want is for your entire plant to turn crispy. Water until there's some runoff and then wait to see if the runoff is soaked back up into the pot - if it is, give more water until it stops soaking it back up and then throw away the excess... Good luck!

What do I do with this overly leafy plant? I'm pretty sure the foliage caused very airy buds and tops. What should I do here? Major defoliation before 48 hours of dark? Leave it, cut the branches off when harvested and run a dry trim or with this should I run wet trim? Thanks!

This plant is looking beautiful! I would not recommend to defoliate this late in the growing phase. Just make sure that there will be enough moving air around this plant to prevent fungals. The only advice that I can give to you for this plant is to cut down the nutrients a bit. You are giving too much. 75% from what you are giving now is more then enough till harvest.
