Well here we grow again!
Getting the seeds started for the outdoor grow. This year doing two Bubba Kush, probably 35gallon fabric pots (up from 25 gal last year). Starting inside as usual to get a head start on our normally shorter grow season.
Hope it's a great summer, first time growing this strain hoping for a fun run!
Well week one is all done and they're all looking healthy and happy. Sitting in the 3x3 with all the outdoor veg that we started for this year. Getting about 275 umol/s and seeming good with that amount. Need to get myself a proper PAR meter one day!
Let's get these girls big and strong so we can get them outside soon!
*Disclaimer*
Two of these are for me, and the other two are for my buddies outdoor grow. Once they are ready to go outside I will be down to 2 plants as stated in the starting info.
Nice and easy week. Got them in the 4x4 and transplanted into 2 gallon pots because was at the point of watering daily on the solos. Roots looked great for transplant. Little droopy on the pics, still recovering from transplant the day before. Should see them bounce back and start to take off any day now 🤞. Maybe 2 more weeks then outdoors if weather keeps on this track
Three weeks in and things are looking good so far 👍. Noticable growth this week, just getting 6th node starting on most of them so will me topping this upcoming week. Also will be their last few days in the tent, come Monday out to the solarium they got to garden off before planting the following weekend. That's when the real fun will begin! Got the fabric pots ready and having soil delivered next week. Will be switching to advanced nutrients once in the outdoor pots, have a set left unopened that I want to get rid of this year and super helpful that it balances out the PH for me. Less work the better for outdoor!
Grow baby grow!
First week outdoors and the girls are just loving the fresh air and sunshine! Have been bringing them into solarium at night because we are still hitting 1°-2° some nights, and the solarium only gets down to 14°. Warm nights (>12°) should be here to stay in the next few days, will have them grounded then. Soil pickup and pot preparation today. I get my soil from a local landscape material yard. They do a great "garden mix", has good drainage and very healthy soil. Plants always seem to love it, and at $45 a yard it's so much cheaper than bagged soil.
Also today is the day I pick my two of the litter before the other two go to their homes at my in-laws place. Probably take the black pots, all four girls look so good might as well take a tall and a short see which does best!
Plants were topped Day 29 from seed and recovered well, quite noticable thickening of the main stem, and by end of week about 1" new growth on tops.
Well the frost is finally done and these girls have been put into their final pots! Transplanted day 38 from seed and buried about an extra inch of stalk. Dynomyco in the hole and no noticable transplant shock. They're now in 45 gallon fabric pots with a garden soil blend from my local landscaper. I use this soil every year for my outdoor plants and it never disappoints. Otherwise just watching them grow, about 4" of new growth on the new tops. Soon will start training them out. Had a 4 day hear wave of 34°C but they pushed through well, just lots of water and they're happy as can be. Now let's sit back and watch mother nature do her thing!
Well it was a good week with some interesting weather. Beginning was nice and sunny/dry around 22°c, but second half of the week we were under a smoke advisory due to forest fires north of us in Quebec. Watered early week with nutes, and have had rain most other days so haven't had to water otherwise, although will water tonight. LST went well, used a variety or ground stakes, ties, and tucking. Girls are widening out and rebounded from any training by the next morning. Hoping for more normal seasonal weather this week but looks like might be rain most days.
Wet, rainy, cloudy, and smokey. Weather was a little bit of everything except sunshine this week! Getting rain daily (we do need it) so have only watered once with nutrients. They are looking good, except that something has been eating the leaves. #1 has a lot more damage than #2 which only has the odd leaf here and there. Have sprayed at beginning and end of week with the fogger after sundown and haven't noticed it get worse so here's to hoping! Need the lady bugs and dragon flies to show up and protect these girls. #1 did lose one of its main tops after a storm one day, first time topping outdoor plants, might not go that way again and just stick to heavy LST. Lots of new growth and height this week, let's hope things go as smooth as possible 🤞.
Late update this week, life was busy.
Similar week to last week. A LOT of rain and thunderstorms with heavy winds, with one or two sunny days. Got to hand water once with nutrients mid week on a sunny day after a day of heavy smoke conditions.
Both girls still suffering from aphids. Should see natural bugs soon, but have been fogging them 1-2 times a week to try and get rid of them. Damage has significantly slowed but hasn't stopped yet. Otherwise things going well. Stalks really thickening up which is good because these plants are really growing and there will be a lot of bud weight for them to support if we make it that far!
Good week this week. Lots of new growth, and they're just about big enough to put a trellis on them. Made the decision to go to organic nutes for the rest of the grow. Have a lot of ammendments at home, and with all the rain this year it's been very hard if not impossible to get them liquid nutes. Will use the nutes inside with the autopot system that I just picked up on clearance.
Still having bug issues, just fogging 1-2 times a weeks still and hoping for the best, but again been hard with all the rain. Been a wet year for yourdoor so far with temps all over the place! Hoping for a bit more steady weather in July 🤞
Happy Canada Day gromies!
Had a very hot week filled with random thunderstorms that dumped between 5mm-20mm in a matter of minutes then back to humid sunny. Many days were 32°C but with humidity pushing 40°C. Girls were taking 30 liters water every 2 days but otherwise happy.
Good news, finally got the Crop Defender in and seems like I might have fixed the bug issue 🤞. One more spray tomorrow night for good measure but haven't seen anything last two days! The fogger is already paying for itself, coats the plants so much easier than a spray bottle and much much faster. Can do a whole plant in 3-5 minutes easily.
Branches are very sturdy at base and not bending for first 12" so got the ties back in place and widened both girls out. This week or early next will get the trellis and cage installed to support these soon to be beasts.
That's it for now, hope everyone had a good week and happy growing!
Was another hot, humid, wet week. 2 days were 34°c with 90% humidity (feels like 42°c )! I'm starting to feel like the weather this season is going to test this strains heartiness haha! Had rain 5 out of 7 days, usually heavy humidity driven thunderstorms in afternoon/evening. Most days no less than 3/4 inch, some days up to 2 inches! Good thing is I have not spotted any new damage to the leaves, but also have not been able to spray due to weather. Should clear up on a few more days and will spray just as a prevention.
At the end of the week got the supports setup and the netting in place. Only one horizontal net per plant so far. As they grow will add more horizontal if needed, and usually an exterior netting wrap late in the season for when the buds start to sag the branches outwards. Don't think it will beat my record (4 pounds for one plant) but theyre starting to look like they will be a BIG laiesy, and I like to be prepared/encourage them with the large support 😄
Oh, and if you get within 20 feet of the plants you smell them. I'm betting we see signs of flower start this week coming or next 🤞. Should be a late September finish so better start soon!
Not much to say, the weather has still been rainy, but a bit less heat and a bit less rain than last week. Still raining 4 days of the week, average 5mm a day, but one day a week getting storms of 30-50mm. This week was a 50mm one in under 2 hours! Really glad to have the netting in as it's also been very windy, but that's good helps the plants dry out really fast after the rains. Weekly application of Crop Defender from Petragrow for preventative bug and PWM. Almost end of July should see stretch start this week. Happy growing and good luck all!
Another WET week, 4 days of rain and a storm at the end of the week that dumped 2.5" of rain in just under 2 hours! At least it means no watering. These girls stood up to the pounding of the rain and the tornado warning winds and are looking fine and dandy. Top dressed Day 92 from Seed with a full board of ammendments getting ready for the stretch. Also removed some fan leaves and low inner growth that won't go anywhere in the long run half way through the week. Probably have to add another horizontal layer of net this week, both plants up almost 12" this week, growing fast! And if the weather keeps on this trend these girls are gonna need all the support they can get. Really glad I went with a mold/pest resistant strain that's an early finisher like Bubba Kush, I have a feeling it may be a wet season overall. Hoping for a dryer end to the season than the start has been 🤞.
Cooler week with half the days being rain yet again. Have never had such a wet outdoor season, but so far they're holding up well. Had another very heavy storm with tornado warnings and a touchdown about 20km away, 2" rain in 2 hours. Netting and supports plus good structure they're still ready for the sun the next day.
Still lots of growth with #1 up to 74" and #2 up to 68". Both nice and full healthy colours. Look a bit sad in pics because sun is down for the night.
Also just starting to see signs of preflower at end of week, so should see them shoot up soon. Hoping for more sun less storm this week 🤞
Well that was a week that I'm glad the girls survived. Had two really big storms. First was 50mm early in week over a 24 hour period, high winds and a touch of hail. Second was day 5, got 80mm in just under 2 hours. High winds 70-90kmh. Torrential downpour, some of the heaviest I've ever seen in my life. Both girls survived, but there was only a few inches of growth compared to their normal 6-8". Probably a little traumatized from all the pounding they took. On the upside at end of week they're looking good, healthy green and no sign of bugs (knock on wood). Next nice day will give them a good look over. Other than that just keeping an eye on them, once stretch stops will give a good defoliation to make sure not TOO thick. Both girls still between 70-80" but hope to get a more accurate measurement this week once I get my ladder out hahaha.
It's that magical time of summer, flower has begun! #1 is probably 5-7 days further along than #2 by look of bud sites, which is normal as they rarely finish or start flower at same time even when same seeds.
Both girls got a top dressing of PowerBloom and Superfly on Day 113 from Seed, just over 3 weeks from last top dress. Has to be the easiest way to do outdoor IMO. Both girls are in need of a thinning, won't go heavy but want to open them up enough to get some light through, it's pretty dark inside the canopy! Both plants have very sturdy bases and almost full bark, signs the bud load could be large this year 🤞. Time to sit back and watch some magic happen, let the bud building begin!
Well we finally had a week without a big storm! Seems like it was the first week this whole grow, I'm sure the girls enjoyed not having to hold on for their lives in torrential downpours and heavy winds. Just lots of sunshine, but cooler with highs around 22-24°C and lows down to 10°C overnight. Light defoliation beginning of the week, just taking out fan leaves from center and some small branches that were not really getting any sun/growth. Looked a lot better after and they didn't even seem phased by the haircut. Bud sites really showing themselves now and starting to hint at the potential of these plants. Smell is starting already, I can get a whiff of them from 100' away on my porch, and when you walk between them it's just a nice enveloping smell. Once the buds really fill in I'm sure my neighbors will notice (they have commented previous years when I have a particularly stinky strain).
#1 is still looking about a week ahead of #2.
Let the good times roll.
Another week of good consistent weather means there isn't much to say! Smell is building as the buds swell, the way these plants are going were gonna have some big'uns this year! Really didn't do anything this week except water and go out every few days for an admiring look. Was home on vacation and busy with Reno's if anything I think i watered a day late and they didn't even seem to mind.
Lots of trichomes starting to build already, #1 more packed than #2 but still looks a week ahead. I have 3 buddies doing same strain and theirs are all similar to #2, so really thinking #1 was just an early starter. Nothing wrong with that though, it's nice if they stagger their finish easier on the trim work haha
Heat wave and with the buds coming in the girls were thirsty so watering 36L every 2 days, but daytime highs were 34°c feeling like 40°C with humidity so not surprised. Otherwise just gave a top dressing on Day 140 from Seed with the last run of bloom and super fly for the season. Buds are fattening and trichomes are packing on. A defoliation will be needed this week, should be more seasonal temps so will get it done at some point when weather cooperates.
Let's hope the forecast of a dry warm fall is right cause these girls are gonna finish mid October or later at this rate. Just starting to see the first signs of leaf colour change, but of purple creeping into the top fan leaves. Yellowing on lower leaves most likely from lack of light or lack of nutrients, should have fed at beginning of week was just so damn . Oh well, things are great in general, hoping they stay on track!
Above average temps last week, below average temps this week. Not many daytime highs over 22°C and many of the nights 8-10°C with one night down to 5°C . Only had one day of rain but 5 days of heavy fog overnight and first hours of morning, the worst environment for potential bud rot. Should see more seasonal temps (high and low) this week so hopefully much less fog 🤞
Finally got around to giving both girls a heavy thinning. #1 still need a bit more work but I reached my limit of trimming for one day haha. While cleaning them up I did see a bit of suspicious looking buds on #1 and a single one an #2 that I promptly chopped off. Inspected surroundings which looked good. Hopefully now that there is a lot more room to breath they with not have any more issues. Normally would have defoliation a week or two earlier but was busy with other projects in free time and kinda lost track of time 🤷.
Let's hope.for.a good week ahead and that the weather cooperates for a strong finish!
So here I was, mid week and I think, "I better check the trichomes with a scope". To my surprise, we already have ripe cloudy trichomes, and the odd redhead! Thought they needed another week but it's at the point where I like it, and I feel the timing is good because the fog and humidity has been brutal. Multiple people I know this season have lost whole plants to rot/WPM. Every day checking plant picking off suspicious looking buds. Will have to go over well while cleaning up for the dry tent. Have the tent venting directly outside no filter just incase rot is present and gets airborne leaves me with just the fan to clean. Will also mean daily checking of the tent to make sure nothing pops up, as rot starts inside the bud and works it's way out so not always present right at harvest.
Did a defoliation at beginning of week when saw daily fog coming, hope.ot saves me the worst of the issues 🤞.
It's been a great summer, lots of crazy weather but they made it in one piece! Let's hope harvest and dry/cure goes well 🤞
As advertised plants were tall and big large bud structure. Should have defoliation/pruned a bit better after stretch to help with airflow but they both survived, albeit #1 had some bud rot found during trim but #2 was clean. Foggy every day last two weeks not the strains fault, I'm actually quite impressed #2 had no issues.
Performed as advertised, some bud rot bear harvest on #1 but two weeks of fog 8 hours a day will do that. Although in saying that, #2 had zero rot or WPM, so that's pretty impressive considering the season IMO. Harvested after 7 weeks flower, but they were showing reds and wanted to avoid any more issues due to crappy weather.
Harvest totals
Plant #1. 295g bud and 270g trim
Plant #2. 476g bud and 200g trim
All fan leaves were removed before drying so trim is mostly sugar leaves packed with THC. Great for hash 👍
@Grow_for_Happiness, the Bubba Kush proved itself to me last year when it resisted the pervasive powdery mildew in our neighbourhood. But I'm still holding my breath as well until I see more Heat.
Your Bubba Kush Flowers are going to be huge! Enjoy 👌
@Grisly, thanks dude I'm holding my breath hoping for the same, at this rate it'll be mid October 😬. Apparently this strain is mold/mildew resistant but still 🤞
Beautiful plant and whole outdoor diary! Lots of great inspiration. I also grew a huge Bruce Banner #3 plant outside. You can check it out on my profile. Peace and enjoy your fruits.👍😎
