The start is always a special moment, and between each germination and each cut, weeks that always have the magic of teaching something new to every grow. In a short time, there will be better and worse times... experience always says it all, and the more experience you have, the greater the knowledge to understand the signals that these wonders of the botanical kingdom present us with challenges almost as big as the final rewards. This season, the option of two of the most important strains from Ripper Seeds has been calculated to the millimeter. I haven't been very happy with many of the recent strains I've had. Strains with flowers that have an abundance of pistils and that later, based on the curing, develop a smoke material that lacks body, density, and the aromas of old-school weed... since last winter with a fantastic Purple Skunk from Sensi Seeds, the strains I've been developing in the end just don't measure up. Are they good smoke material? Yes, surely they are... both Kukulkan from Pyramid Seeds and the latest Fast from Sweet Seeds are good herbs, cerebral, that leave you nicely placed, but... yes, but... they lack that extra something I've been searching for. More than an indoor cannabis grower with ample experience, I'm a seed collector. I love buying seeds and I have, without trying to flatter, hundreds of seeds from the most diverse origins, banks, and types... from the rarest Indicas to the most remote Sativas, top-quality Hybrids, or Autos and Fasts from the best the seed market has to offer. From bulks of friends who have mothers that have produced incredible seeds and strains or even some that I have from my outdoor days... so, when it comes to choosing, I have hundreds of options, and in the last seasons, my mistake... I almost chose at random and according to what I felt like each day. This season, no... the selection without major criteria has come to an end, and I've thought about it a lot. Thought about it over and over again, and yes... what I know about Ripper Seeds is that they are perhaps one of the most solid banks in the market. The feminized strains among their OMG, their unforgettable "purple" Zombie Kush - unique in its quality and aesthetic beauty, and of course... the two ladies I've invited this season... the Brain Cake, a hybrid leaning towards Sativa that has been one of the biggest headbangers I've had when smoking something (the perfect cough lock... that weed that in two puffs leaves you on planet Namek of "cannabis bliss") and clearly, even more mysterious, potent, and incredible, the Washing Machine, another hybrid - this one leaning towards Indica - and if with the other you take a trip coupon to Namek, with the Washing Machine, if hallucinogenic mushrooms could be smoked, the "high" would be from the Washing. So, to plant something that friends won't easily forget in a few months. The other day I told them "Do you want something to remember later?!?"... well, they'll have it, and more, after not panicking and there being no complaints that the "headbangers" won't even serve to lie down and enjoy a movie or whatever... both the "washing machine" and the "brain cake" are not for beginners, and with these strains, you have to take it easy because at least the two times I've smoked two joints of the Brain Cake, the aftermath was not easy... perhaps one of the most intense "stones" I've ever experienced, and if there are herbs to have a good time, they will be others that are not these... with these, you have more than a good time, they are true journeys to the "cannabis" galaxy of headbangers turned to mush. More than that, I plant them in winter to bring out another characteristic that makes them unforgettable; both strains develop pigments from purples to blacks, and what I love most are their bud structures (which are flowers loaded with snow, with sugar leaves in flower form and half a dozen pistils, and if there's something that also stands out a lot in the Washing Machine, it's that aroma of wet earth and that sweet finish that tastes like licorice, which makes the flavor of this strain something so unique and exclusive. As for germination, when you have good seeds and keep them in the freezer in a plastic cabinet, they are in full conservation if you want for more than ten years. I placed them in germination in damp paper towel, and in 48 hours, I transferred them already germinated to a jiffy, and in another half day, they were already in their coco, Peebles, and perlite bed and ready to grow in the cabinet. Another highlight has been the option for the Fullcrem line from Cannaboom, which is one of the most concentrated and super fertilizers of top quality, so we have everything perfect... autumn grows with ideal temperatures for indoor cultivation, incredible strains from no less than an incredible bank, and fertilizers that the whole plant would love to have. TommyBVRSA75 Growth is normal with very advantageous temperature and humidity for the beginning of the vegetative stage. In the Washing Machine cultivar, LST has already been applied to shape the growth. Otherwise, the cultivars are growing without any signs of imbalance, and with the 10 liters of dosage that Cannaboom adopts for its nutrition plan, the plan will be adjusted to about 10 days instead of weekly, as there is still nutrient solution in the hydroponic tank for week 1, and the amount will be reviewed soon for a second week. The light intensity has already been set to 60% of the 300 watts from the two MarsHydro Ts1000 (each with a 150w output), meaning that right now the grow area is being covered by about 160 watts in total, which is more than enough for these first days. As we progress towards the end of the vegetative stage, it will be increased by 10% more each week, so that by the time we switch to the 12/12 cycle, we can fully open the flowering stage with the LED set at full power (300w in 0.64m2). In the grows, it's noticeable that the Washing Machine has started with more vigor, while the Brain Cake, although growing more gently, is at normal levels. Additionally, this week there have been two minimal foliar feedings with a nutrient called Spicy Poker, which excels in providing zinc and micronutrients. During this adaptation phase, it effectively mitigates the usual stress that occurs at the beginning of each phase. So, as expected and with the excitement of a new season, the Ripper family shows signs of good health and quality in their genetics. Ripper does not disappoint and even though the Brain Cake is showing a more timid growth, despite that, they are two vibrant cultivars in their phenotypic characteristics and their genetics are absolutely up to par. As you can see, the Brain Cake, perhaps due to the very early addition of the super formula from Spice Poker, a super nutrient with an abundance of microelements and a considerable dose of iron, or simply due to adaptation to light stress - the 75% dimmer on one of the Mars Hydro TS1000 lights - with this we’re talking about a radiant power around 125 watts at 30 cm from the seedling, reflected as a result in its first fan leaves, a curling of the leaves, which more than an unsightly appearance of yellowing and curved leaves, did not imply any damage or limitation to absolutely normal growth. It is visible that it is shorter and less lush regarding leaves, but as a hybrid with Sativa ancestry, the law of hybrids in our Brain imposed that clear traces of Indica have manifested. My knowledge about this particular seed bank, Ripper Seeds, and from what many other growers refer to in their diaries, is that it is almost constant that a characteristic of huge vertical growth spurts tends to occur during flowering in most Ripper strains. With prior notice, the strategy for growing these strains this season was not to continue with a long vegetative cycle and thus keep the cultivars at a very modest size, considering that their flowering will represent another moment of exponential growth. The light cycle has already been changed to 12/12 and with that, taking the reins for flowering to start as soon as possible. In terms of nutrition, as always in the coconut substrate work, the prior preparation includes a start where the addition of kraken mycorrhizae, azo bacteria, kelp substrate, humic acids, and kelp solution is not missing in the first waterings in which the jiffy with the seedling is transferred to the pot and to the FTP watering (absorbent hydroponics type Smart Mat). From what we’ve had in growth so far, I am very impressed with the capacity and quality of the Fullcrem line from Cannaboom. Just the concentration of the products and the perfect health that the cultivars demonstrate are very favorable points for new seasons with Cannaboom as the first option. In the last season, their line The Witchers Potion had disappointed me a bit, but after talking to other growers and some friends who already have more in-depth experience with the use of Cannaboom and its lines (be it The Witcher’s Potion, Fullcrem, or even the solid Boxer), the opinion is that the line The Witcher’s Potion is certainly not the best for hydroponic solutions and with the beginnings this season using the Fullcrem line, the results are unbeatable. Of their products, their Boomrapid (vegetative phase agent is excellent) and essentially, their booster fertilizers like the Biotonex enhancer or the root agent Raimil are superlative. So that the change to the light cycle wouldn’t have a tremendous impact on the cultivars, and much due to the type of coconut I’m using this season, it was my opinion that using a vestigial amount of CalMagSi occurred in these weeks, in order to maintain a hypothetical balance if any problem had manifested, which did not happen and much because beginner mistakes are no longer made since I have been doing experiments in grows for many long years - be it Outdoor/Indoor/Manual Waterings/Hydroponics/Growing in soil/Growing in coconut. So one more week and always making my prayers to God Jah, for me and my fellow growers, and for it to be for crops, for neighbors with undesirable curiosity, or for the continuity of laws loaded with hypocrisy that make lovers of this plant criminals, when the hypocrites who judge and persecute us are the real criminals... for all that, a hug the size of the world to everyone. TommyBVRSA75 Friends, another week with very good things. With the vegetative stage running at a fast pace towards its end, the "ladies" from Ripper for this winter season are taking me to the ecstasy of being a grower. Almost perfect the path until the beginning of week 5. The Washing Machine and its more loaded phenotype, and what I had already planned since day 1 about Ripper's genetics, if we let the vegetatives grow wildly, when we enter flowering, this characteristic is very much from Ripper's material, even in flowering the growth according to the strains can double its vertical growth. Maybe that's why, and because the Washing presents a lot of leaf material, today I started the differentiation through SCROG trying to get branches out and thus expand areas for future penetration. When we clearly have signs of flowering (we're almost there but not yet), I will give it the basics to boost the final yield, meaning starting a selective trimming of base branches that only take strength away from what will interest us in the end, which is a plant where in its upper third the wonderful buds of this strain will bloom, characterized by its flower leaf structure loaded with terpene glands and sugar leaves, enough trichome load and its purple tones that with the transition from autumn to winter will be that magical purple and with the leaves tending to an almost black color... I already know the "lady" and if what Ripper has is more than just a smokable material of extraordinary quality, it's the visual appeal of plants that are simply beautiful. The Washing has been assuming a vibrant vitality since day 1, and the relationship between water, nutrients, selective fertilization, and growth conditions, you can already see the wonderful image of a cultivar that I am simply... head over heels in love with. If the Washing and its phenotype reveal its very bushy character, the phenotype I got this season of the Brain Cake, and if at the beginning it was very unfortunate for me that the fan leaves burned in the first week and that there was an aesthetically unpleasing curve in those leaves, now it shows its temperament and develops a very particular phenotype. Some of its genetics is undoubtedly sativa (in the stretched aspect of its branches and in the more spaced internodes than its "sister" Washing), but it is already very revealing of its phenotypic typology... it is by definition a cultivar that will be a "Christmas tree," surely with the already designed central cola and with a set of guard branches that due to the structure will end up like the cola in a beautiful group of lateral buds. From what I see in its growth, and there will be a need to anticipate if it will maintain a very evident tendency to narrow branches, the possibility of putting some guides to support the potential weight of buds that due to the existing space and light penetration will likely be monstrous both in size and density. Surely regarding the Brain Cake, I don't think there will be a need to trim the lower third, and what is requested is that the branches that are still less developed can grow successfully, leading to a very particular increase in the number of buds at the end of the cycle. Some very important considerations that need to be mentioned without any doubt. First, and why if in other grows I have been very critical of some nutrient brands and contributions that have very strong marketing but later reveal failures in many ways in their formulas, this season of my photoperiodics I opted for Cannaboom, and I can clearly state that in their line The Witcher's Potion, when in summer seasons with higher temperatures and using it in hydroponics and coco as a growing medium, clear deficiencies were evident, and this line has more than a dozen products.... regarding this concentrated line Fullcrem also from Cannaboom, don’t confuse it with advertising, but as I tell you, Cannaboom Fullcrem has almost certainly been the best nutrition line I have worked with in my nearly ten years of experience. Simply fantastic, the quality, the evidence of the cultivars with their health at peak and with EC levels that are wonderful for the temperature and pH conditions of the water with which I fill tanks in my hydroponics (always preparing 10 liters which are normally absorbed by the two cultivars, and the quality is noticeable in aspects like pH and EC readings in the hydroponic tanks, maintaining perfect consistency for about 8/9 days in which the 10 liters of solution are fully absorbed for nutrition. And if I started with a less positive opinion of the line The Witcher's Potion, for hydroponics in coco substrate and in more summery times... Well, this same line in another of the diaries you can read in my area, an automatic backcross Blueberry from PEVGrow, which I have in another growth area and the Witcher's Potion that failed in summer and in hydroponics, right now with the automatic in manual watering and growing in Lava Soil B.A.C is showing itself as a line of very high-quality nutrition. - REMINDER - the experience with nutrients is not in judging a line of these when subjected to specific conditions, and as I tell you very clearly, if the Witcher's Potion in hydroponics, summer climate, and coco cultivation performed slightly below average, right now in manual watering and if used in soil substrate, it is proving to be a very good line for example, for growing automatics, and we all know how vital good nutrients and contributions are for automatics due to their shorter cycles and greater need for NPK as well as micro and macronutrients. In summary, the Spaniards from Cannaboom are a brand that is worth its cost, and if you use it, the results will be perfect. This week I also had to conduct some dehumidification sessions with the 11-liter dehumidifier I have, as with the recent rains, one day of the week the alarms went off with the RH almost touching 90% inside the room where the growth set is. Autumn and during rainy periods, here where I reside, sometimes (due to the proximity to a river, the sea, and a nearby pine forest) can sometimes reach relative humidity that can at times exceed 90%, which becomes a very limiting factor in growth and also in post-culture for drying and curing. As for the rest, the photos will show you the cabinet with the two Mars Hydro TS1000 sets that guarantee me almost ideal coverage (as you can see, the two sets are at distances from the tops of the different cultivars - to keep them at 30 CMS and with a dimm at 100%). The nutrition has undergone changes with emphasis on the first inclusion of the flowering base and with the addition of Brutalzym which will be very important to maintain the action, for example, of the mycorrhizal structure created in the coco substrate, from the transplant of the seedling to the pots. TommyBVRSA75 Very well, some important notes... the start of flowering is perfectly visible. Alongside the tails of the "girls," the growth of the base pistils is very noteworthy, and with that, the cultivars are officially in flowering. Some notes that are also visible... with the change and introduction to the flowering concentrates, the outstanding Biotonex as a flowering inducer, RedBoom as a bud fattening agent, Floraboom as flowering nutrition, and the foliar watering syrup in which, along with the 2-liter spray bottle with Delta 9 from Cannabiogen at 2 ml/l; the kelp solution (Ascophyllum nodosum) at 2 ml/l; Mycofed from Mycoterra (molasses and humic acids base) at 2 ml/l and the magic ingredient Spicy Poker at 2 ml/l ... and nothing... every three to four days, a couple of sprays to address deficiencies and everything is going very well... As I mentioned, the shift to "flowering" nutrition and the characteristics of its compounds have shown some minor issues in the last couple of days that will require specific adaptations as I see a slight blockage (still very mild) of phosphorus, which is surely related to two factors: one, a potassium-rich diet and thus the normal potassium-phosphorus blockage (it happened in the past, it happens in the present, and it will happen in the future); another environmental factor is the notable humidity levels in the grow room, we're around 80% with the dehumidifier connected day and night, and there's no way to turn it around, and in the last couple of days, the inclusion of the two 26w flowering PLEDs (total 52w) that complement the 300 watts crossed from the two TS1000s from HydroMars that provide the main LED ammunition for the system, and with the additional light contribution, there may also be an initial imbalance in potassium integration. Don't panic, because from the photos and you can tell me your opinion, things are if not perfect, very close to perfection. As you can see, the normality of Ripper strains is characterized by this... even if you give them a few days of vegetative growth, their flowering strains keep pushing, and what is leaving me on the edge of ecstasy as a grower has to do with the beautiful dispersion of branches and their internodes and the crazy multiplication of flowering buds, both in the Washing, more indica but as a hybrid, extremely powerful in its bushy structure with perfectly inserted fan leaves and leaving spaces for lower levels of bud growth to be perfectly visible, and there will surely be an impressive number of buds in the end. In the Brain Cake, its Sativa character and its long branches and satellite branches already have their designed spaces. The start of its huge support pistils is very visible, and it will ultimately be an incredible plant. I have recently had issues in making sure that each of the strains can be equally useful, to balance the pH, and if the blockages that are still visible, albeit very mild, will require an attempt at a solution where the excess of one does not mean a deficiency of others and vice versa. Hydroponics is common, and there's no way to turn it around in what would be desirable to include in one without the other being affected. This is the magic of the ease of hydroponics, but it is also its Achilles' heel, that if you make decisions to rectify what you see isn't working out the best in one, it becomes risky for the other. The balance, if it can be achieved, should be individual, and for the collective, for both to balance with the same, it is not possible... perhaps very soon I will buy a new hydroponic set where I can have two different sets for each of the grows. As for everything else, to my friends and brothers as always, more than wishing me good luck, I ask you to make the critiques you deem necessary that can help improve the grows.... From what I see, they are beautiful, bursting with strength, and the deficiencies that are also noticeable, albeit with little expression, it would also be perfect to hear from you solutions and advice. TommyBVRSA75 Brothers, let's go, and our photo-dependent plants from Ripper - the very Indica Washing Machine and the very Sativa, Brain Cake, gaining flowering axis and an increased number of pistils every day. Confession of sins... I was loading the "girls" due to a lack of observation of pH levels in the hydroponic tank and made a rookie mistake. How embarrassing, and please, "girls," forgive the very shabby father you have because if I hadn't "loaded" you this week, this grow wouldn't happen... let me tell you... about last Wednesday to induce flowering, in my spray bottle at the rate of 3 ml of Delta Nueve from Cannabiogen in one liter of prepared water without chlorites and with a pH of 6, I did a complete spray of the liter on the leaves of both grows - on the upper and lower surfaces of the leaves - as the rules dictate, but... and if... there are some buts that we often overlook in our work in the grows and since the runoff of Delta Nueve went to the buds and roots and due to push, the Delta Nueve solution went to the hydroponic reservoir and I didn't take it as seriously as I should have. Well, on Friday and Saturday it was noticeable that especially the Brain was complaining with a couple of burnt leaves, but the emergence of more than two burnt leaves yesterday set off alarm bells... something wasn't right, I detected it immediately and nothing... first measure, to analyze the pH of the nutrient solution in the hydroponic tank directly and when I realized that the solution was at the "chilly" level of 8.3 pH, I almost let out a scream and apologized to the "girls" as much as I could and even gave them kisses to forgive me. So in hydroponics, it's easier than doing a traditional flush as usual, what was done in an emergency was to drain the direct solution tank of the pots, prepare a new nutrient mix with a perfect pH of 6.25 and fill the tank with the 10 liters that fit for next week, thus combating the problem in the fastest way and making an essential correction. With this pH and with a limit of 1,500 ✓S of EC, where in addition to the base nutrients from the Fullcrem line, three products with very specific characteristics for the flowering stage we are already immersed in were added in rational doses: CalMagSi at a rate greater than 1ml/L; the mineral bud inducer Actiboom at a rate of 0.4ml/L which now integrates soluble kelp to combat the pH stress it was subjected to, and finally at a rate of 0.3ml/L of PK Boom, a mineral PK solution in chelates for rapid and perfect absorption to give a super boost of phosphorus and potassium in its flowering phase. With FullCrem and the three auxiliary mineral products from The Witcher's Potion, both from Cannaboom, we ended up with a tank with a pH of 6.35 and a maximum safety limit defined in the table of 1.398✓ of EC. Despite the fact that in a few hours the grows will continue to dissipate the toxicity of the 8.2 pH solution, at the end of those few hours, we will have a healthy medium, balanced and with the perfect nutrient ratio, and due to the pH rates, the EC intervals in use will be perfect for an expectable wonderful and very productive final flowering stage. As you can see, sometimes it can happen even to the most experienced, and without the proper attention and analysis of something as decisive as the pH values of the nutrient solutions and the not insignificant factor of the impact of the Delta Nueve runoff on the smart mats of hydroponics over the nutrient tank, where I thought there was a pH over 6.3, it was actually almost more than 2 points of more alkaline pH, which leads to blocking the vast majority of nutrients... and I wanted to convince myself that the burnt leaves were due to the inclusion of a now stronger diet in phosphorus and potassium. Well, nothing... reminder, silly... less confidence and laxity in regularly testing the pH and EC of the nutrient tank, and if burnt leaves start to appear, it's more likely due to a significant rise in pH of the medium than to fantastic factors that I sought these days to justify the burnt leaves. Never forget that the simplest things are usually the cause of issues, and before a good conspiracy, the truth in order, God Jah gives it to us, freely and quickly, if we see his signals in the simplest way possible. For what happened, a thousand apologies to the "girls" and may my lesson today also serve as a reminder to you, for those of us who have been in this grow game for many years, that sometimes we may make more blatant mistakes than many of the brother growers who have just started. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea grandissima culpa. As for the rest, we continue with the base of the grows caught from pins that have helped keep the LST guiding and limiting the vertical growth of the grows (in vegetative it keeps going and going...), I won't exclude adding another SCROG net a few centimeters higher to the base SCROG, and finally, this week it has been important to start completing the base defoliation, both on branches with no possibility of "budding" with minimal measures and with old fan leaves that were already old and that more than any advantage, would only end up taking strength away from the growth of the branches and colas at higher levels. And that's it, next week continues and I’m still head over heels in love with these two genetics from Ripper Seeds and the incredible grows that their genetics have "lent" me for this season. TommyBVRSA75 Brothers growers and everyone who follows me... another week and here we are with the beautiful "ladies" turned into full-fledged "women." Magnificent in their structure and what we have will surely bring us something wonderful this season. But not without some bumps along the way, and I'll tell you how this week I almost sent all the effort, dedication, and love I put into my grows "down the drain," and like a beginner at the most basic level, I made a mistake that could have cost me dearly. In this type of passive hydroponics with a tank where ten liters of nutrient solution are prepared, which then through a "smart mat" scheme provide nutrition, meaning the pots are on a box where the prepared solution is, and through some special absorbent fabric strips that suck the solution as needed by the root system of the grows, this system has limitations like needing to move the solution through a hole with the help of a plastic guide to prevent the nutrients from settling at the bottom. Another care in passive hydroponics is to keep in mind whether the water in the solution added every few days maintains the desired pH levels for each moment of the grow and always be careful to check for any alterations in the solution, like if the water presents strange odors or if some algae can develop - which shouldn't happen since the nutrients in use are minerals, and as a rule, the use of organic nutrients or stimulators can alter or increase the recommended EC... so I said last week and this coming Sunday we'll repeat the process but with great care, I gave the "ladies" a foliar spray of the magnificent flowering inducer Delta 9 from Cannabiogen. Since the foliar spray is based on one liter of solution with water that I take from the dehumidifier, which is basically water extracted from the room's atmosphere and is like Reverse Osmosis, it comes out as very acceptable water without mineralization, even though it always generates water with a very basic nature, meaning water with around 8.4 pH, very low initial EC values around 200 µS/m, and without any form of chlorites or bromides that tap water usually has due to potability treatments. So that water with pH reducer is managed to stay around 6.1 pH and is ready for use in hydroponics and coco medium, which recommends that the water should not vary less than 5.5 pH at the beginning of the grow and in the last weeks before the final flush, should not exceed 6.2 or at most 6.3 pH. As the weeks go by and due to the nature of the nutrients in use, if we start even in seedling with 0.8 EC, meaning 800 µS/m at most in the final week of the grow, for these photodependent plants let's say we'll reach in winter season and indoors with the LED setup I have in use and its wattage, the flush week and pending the maturation of the buds will be between week 15 and week 17, and the maximum EC should be at 2.2, meaning 2,200 µS/m, and if the pH and EC constants respect these values, it means that in the end there will be fat, dense buds and high-quality smoke after a drying process done in the best way and hoping that at least 40 days of curing will give the harvest the best quality of terpenes and buds that won't be dry but will have that consistency where you feel the resin on your fingers and that in the grinder can break apart without turning to dust. That is my experience, and my life as a grower has taught me that mastering the variables to keep the values as expected, in the end, will reward you... Well, I was saying, and why the more years we have in this and the more confidence we gain in our experience and the empirical nature of the process, sometimes it happens that an addition of a product; a certain dilution of nutrients; a specific water preparation and since we have it so controlled that we almost do it with our eyes closed, things can happen and we can make mistakes that even a novice who just started a couple of days ago wouldn't typically make, and this past week, mea culpa, big mea culpa... I made one of those mistakes that someone who has been doing this for as long as I have can make, and I'll explain. As I do with great detail the preparation of the water, the measurements, and how I mix solutions, usually what is in the ten liters that make up the system's ammunition every 8/9 days, until a new solution, is always done in such a way that the pH and EC limits are as they should be... well, in a very "noob" way, when I did the foliar spray of Delta 9 and due to its organic nature, I didn't take into account that from the liter with 5 ml, which is the mixing rate of water with Delta 9 used as a standard for both foliar spray and fertigation, and I'll explain once again that Delta 9 is used as follows: in the first days of pre-flowering, a watering is done with that amount of 5ml/L over the leaves of the grow both on the upper side of the leaves and on the underside of them and stems, and with that liter of Delta 9 solution and more in coco and with the Smart Mat strips, the leftover water from the watering spills over the coco and the Smart Mat strips fill with Delta 9 that then also ends up passing into the solution on the board where the pots are and where the solution is,... so I didn't take into account that some of the Delta 9 watering went into the nutrient solution which logically should have a maximum of 6.3 pH and no more than 1.3 EC, and with the excess of Delta 9 watering that passed into the solution, the pH rate and due to the organic nature of Delta 9 rose... and "big dick" how it rose. Since I had prepared the solution on the board for that week as I had done a couple of days ago, I interpreted that some leaf that burned on the Brain Cake was due to a greater sensitivity of that strain to the very natural increase of P and K rates and that there would also have been a very natural reaction with what should be an absorption or failure in it of magnesium and since calcium and magnesium go "hand in hand" and since one is limiting to the other, it means that if there is excessive calcium integration, magnesium gets blocked or vice versa, my interpretation and much of why the Washing Machine didn't show signs of blockage/deficiency/excess and I thought the problem could be solved with the excellent CalMagSi (Calcium/Magnesium/Silica) from Cannaboom. So I gave it some kelp solution, sprinkled some mycorrhizae grains on the surface, and added some Brutalzym (to balance the possible "disruption" that the Brain was showing) and I thought in a very reductive way "two little leaves burned, it's not important and with these measures, tomorrow, things will be stabilized"... the next day, "the alarms went off," since at least four leaves on the Brain showed signs of burning, with the aggravating factor that two of those leaves were relatively new leaves and there, my reaction was almost immediate "shit, something's wrong with the system's pH" and so, in a flash, I took out the tool that is in my opinion, the safest to see very accurately the real pH rate which are the pH titration drops from Tierra Aquatica, which are widely used in hydroponics and that by the color of the titration give you very realistically the truth of the pH of the system water, and when the water from the board in the test tube turned dark blue, that means that your system water instead of the 6.3 maximum pH you expected, was at the whopping level of over 8.5 pH (!!!)! meaning, the nutrient solution had turned with the Delta 9 that had drained into an alkaline "poison" that was starting to kill my Brain Cake and that very soon would also start to show signs of anomaly in the Washing Machines but we didn't reach that point thanks to God Jah and because I noticed the problem in a timely manner. Solution: immediately drain the board of the "alkaline poison" that was there. A solution with over 8.5 pH, first of all, blocks in two ways what your grows need. The only thing that integrates at that limit is magnesium and only with magnesium entering, calcium gets blocked, silica gets blocked, so CalMag instead of correcting, adds even more magnesium and with that magnesium rate, everything else collapses. The normal nutrients get blocked and turn into waste that explodes with your root system; very quickly the micronutrients due to the vertical availability insufficiency, start to kill the bacteria that fix the sugars (the Brix process stops and thank goodness I always have the systems vaccinated with mycorrhizae and before the mycorrhizal threads start to burn, the primary roots and the secondary root system reticulum start to burn. The solution and in this hydroponics makes it easy for you, the immediate draining of the tank prevents the "alkaline poison" through the xylem vessels (through the ascent of alkaline water) and the phloem transporting magnesium to the entire grow) from continuing to damage the system. So a new solution of 10 liters was prepared (and not loading the system too much with magnesium) with water at a maximum of 5.8 pH and with that falling outside the optimal limits for magnesium absorption, but good for the absorption of other nutrients and micronutrients, and that's it. The next day there were still a couple more burned leaves, but by the second day we had the "alkaline fire" extinguished and the system balanced again. The use of kelp and some amino acids and a lot added over three days directly to the solution board like 1 to 2 ml of Brutalzym up to a maximum of 5 ml of this enzyme compound in the solution board, and the enzymes quickly made the system balance again and at least, the burning of recent leaves was halted. Some "wounds" to remember what happened are the oldest fan leaves at the base of the grows and specifically in Brain Cake they have remained with the marks of the "aggression," and in the end, we were able to breathe a sigh of relief because there was a way to recover from the "nightmare." The flowering, as you can see, is happening very normally... and so for the optimization of flowering conditions, I have hung CO2 generating bags in both the photodependent and the automatic grow, and with what we currently have in humidity and temperature in the grow room, the Buddy Boost bags are expected to allow the bud growth to reach incredible levels each week, and surely next week when I hang new photos, you will be impressed by the explosive way the buds will develop. Number 1 and the most important - point and aside, I have perhaps left the passive Smart Mat hydroponics from Quadgrow for good, and for very clear reasons. It might be a good way to integrate the nutrient solution when we go on vacation or have to go a couple of days without watering, but this form of hydroponics is very deficient and sooner or later creates very significant problems in the grows. Let me explain... first, the trend of the water that remains from filling 10-liter tanks every 8/9 days, and when you do what I did this week, it becomes very clear that the water is left "stagnant" with a tendency to nitrification, to rotting, and there are practical consequences of this "reuse" solution, like elevated EC levels if you need to add something for flowering induction, for example, that is richer in organic matter, enzyme activity, and I even dare to say that the water I removed from the tray where it was under the pots, and where it was clear, due to the brown color and opacity, that the solution is fermenting, and that does tremendous damage to the grows. For example, Delta 9 had to be added in its second cycle, after the first, ten days earlier, and again it was dramatic for the grows... burnt tips are signs of many things but above all they are signs of nutrient excess and in this case, with the "fermented" water from Delta 9 and despite the pH and EC being within the desired range, there was surely an excess of nitrification of the water with an almost certain drop in oxygen, and what is very clear is that there was an extremely high amount, I believe of fermentation compounds, abnormal levels of Phosphorus and Potassium; the inability of the enzyme inductors to make water and nutrient exchanges available in the coco medium, and above all, it is very clear that the Smart Mat strips, which centralize the transport of water, create areas in the pot where the root systems do not develop in the best way and the mycorrhizal threads do not absorb moisture for the water and nutrient absorption to be expanded... so this "cheap" hydroponics that was turning out to be "expensive" in results once again, I have abandoned and point and aside, I will not take it up again in the near future and I will only do so, as I said, if for example, I go away for the weekend and leave enough solution for 3/4 days... so I will never again use the reference of a 10-liter tank and at most in exceptional conditions, no more than 4/5 liters and for "vacations"... and what has happened... Well, I have started to water the entire area of the pot, which is no more than 4 liters, so I am doing waterings of a prepared liter and since the coco substrate "forces" us to water every day or at most every two days... as we approach the end of the grow, I will do shorter waterings and wait more days between waterings (even every three days). What is visible?!? The leaves and deficiency indicators have normalized very quickly. The tips will continue to be burnt but the guard leaves of the buds have grown in these two days and with better "manners" than during the entire time of the 10-liter solution tanks, and it is very visible that the leaves have become "upright," which means that with the 1-liter waterings in the last three days, the nutrition has started to integrate into the roots; primary systems, secondary, and mycorrhizal threads in a much more effective and balanced way, and it is very noticeable that now the grows are healthy and that is all so that in the end we have what we desire and for which we have worked... Another of the very important things this week, hanging the CO2 Buddy Boost, and it is also very clear that we have had very good results and that the pistils are multiplying every day, and that a much more visible dust of sugars and terpenes is often appearing on the guard leaves of the buds, meaning that the sugar leaves of the grow are developing spectacularly and the impact that the CO2 contribution has on this characteristic is incredible. There is still much to "walk" in the flowering and it is very clear, because both strains have a very specific characteristic of ripening which is the darkening of the leaves that in the final stages will turn almost black, and that will surely happen. What makes me happiest in these photoperiod-dependent grows is the number of bud sites and in the photos, it is not very visible that on each of the branches and as we go down to the base of the grow, there is space between nodes on each branch of almost half a meter, with the capacity for each branch to have up to five buds, and it is also very noticeable that just three days of direct watering have allowed the guard leaves of the buds to show that we will have an incredible harvest. At this moment, the smell of the strains is not very perceptible yet, but in the Brain Cake and its leaves, there is already a very perceptible aniseed smell with a hint of licorice, and this makes me think that perhaps in a couple of weeks the aroma of the terpenes will become very noticeable and we will have to be very careful with the terpene aromas of these two strains, especially the Blueberry, which tends to emit a very characteristic smell of berries and forest fruits. So if we are to do some futurism, we will have to take into account the evolution of the aromas and with that, in general, the ozone producers I have, not only in the growing room but also in the area next to the exit door, and alternate it with the use of Cannaboom spray, which is the Cukis, and with its cherry aroma that I usually spray all over the house, so that the cannabis smells are not too perceptible. Other than that, God Jah is at all times giving me the signs and tools so that these "ladies" dependent on light from Ripper, in a little over a month, become something unforgettable... for now, having left the "cheap" hydroponics I was using and taking much better care of the watering preparations, is already close to 96 hours performing well and returning the grows to the "march" I desired from the beginning, and that always makes us growers happy, the feeling that after not-so-good things happen, we can return to normal and see that everything is about to evolve for the better. TommyBVRSA75 Another step forward in the grows of the photoperiod strains from Ripper Seeds this Autumn 2023. I've taken some drastic measures because something was going on with Cannaboom's nutrition, and I wasn't liking how the flowering was developing. In just a couple of days, something has changed, and I can already see some improvements. Despite working in coco, I adopted something organic towards the end of the grows, which has gone through at least two very drastic changes. First, I integrated symbiotic bacteria from TNC Bactorr s13, which includes at least 13 strains of bacteria, specifically two of them that really help address the imbalances I was seeing coming up recently. At least two of these strains, I would say, are fantastic for recovering some balance regarding optimized atmospheric nitrogen absorption without having to add extra nitrogen during flowering, which would impact development in terms of size, density, and resin. Too much nitrogen during flowering can block the integration of potassium and phosphorus, and regarding the latter, another one of the bacterial strains will have a strong impact on the integration of this crucial nutrient during flowering. Additionally, the most important change has been the switch from Cannaboom's Fullcrem concentrated biominerals to a lesser-known nutrient brand, Gold Green, which is based on organic ingredients. I particularly liked their product Complet, which quickly balanced some noticeable imbalances. It's evident that in recent weeks there were deficiencies in nutrient integration, and the burnt leaf tips worried me, but I had to take some risks. With the increase in the PK rate, either through the PK 21-30 product from Gold Green or the addition of the "super bomb" PK 56-35 from Agrobeta, the decision was made, and there was an explosion in the buds that wasn't happening with Cannaboom's nutrition. Cannaboom may have some good things in its composition, but the desired fattening and flowering pace, neither its RedBoom nor its flowering inducer Biotonex can develop good flowers at a pace that doesn't clash with the natural decline in the integration of other nutrients as the grow progresses towards the final phase. Let me explain in more detail... Cannaboom is one of those brands that has about 15 products that integrate with each other according to the development phases... for example, if you're working in coco, there's almost a mandatory need to have their biological enzyme and symbiotic bacteria inducer called Cannibal. And for example, due to the composition of two products in combination, Cannibal A+B, if you don't have this product that costs a whopping 50 euros, you'll end up with two to three more products that don't integrate well (like their Floraboom, which connects to Vita Boss, MaxiSugar, Goma 2; which then connects to the flowering inducer Biotonex, because in coco, the enzymatic compound Brutalzym doesn't yield good results. Then there's the bud fattening product, which will be RedBoom, and I wasn't seeing the desired growth speed of the buds or the very early formation of resin glands, so in the end, you give them a product called Terpenum and a compacting and pistil enhancing product called Terpenum... you see how complicated it is to combine the products, and it became very evident that with the lack of some products, I needed to combine, for example, leonardite to have humic and fulvic acids because I was missing Goma 2; I had to resort to Azo bacteria, which, since they aren't from their Cannibal compound, didn't capture phosphorus as desired, even though they integrated nitrogen without forming compounds that were assimilable. So this mess I'm trying to explain is the reality of Cannaboom, and either you have about 400 euros to get the base compounds, and then you need at least ten more to make the compensations and nutrient integrations... in summary, the leaves burning due to deficiencies in the compounds themselves and the way they combine... so the perfect pH, the recommended EC, and yet very visible deficiencies, compounds blocking others, and a very, very slow bud growth rate. There was no other way, but Cannaboom will remain for using one or another compound as an auxiliary. However, as a complete base for a grow season, it's unlikely that I'll choose them again... I'm really sorry, but as versatile nutrients, they don't fit and are too complex because they only work if you add others... even with their most basic feeding plan, they don't reach the desired results, and you can't work like that. This also happens with brands like Advanced Nutrients, which have a line with 25 products, and you only get results if you have at least 20 of them, costing you 400 euros. Cannaboom has its mineral line, The Witcher's Potion, which is simpler and more straightforward, but while it works very well with autos, I've realized from experience that with photoperiod strains in coco, it's minimally bearable, and there are cheaper and better options on the market. I'm sorry once again, but Cannaboom has a lot of improving to do, especially in making it simpler to use, for example, through Fullcrem, with a base line of six products that work perfectly without needing to supplement nutrients with specific fertilizers (and if you start with Cannaboom, it will be very clear that the small bottles with those specific fertilizers that become mandatory for success will cost you an average of 30 euros for 50 ml). In this week's photos, it's very clear that the impact of both TNC bacteria and the PK contributions has translated into a very notable and strong development of the buds, and it's clear that we're going to have optimal production and unbeatable quality. One week less to reach the end of the cycle and it's already noticeable what the PK boost has revealed in our Ripper grows, and I’m very happy with how everything is coming together. The signs of leaves that are already somewhat "touched" by the passage of weeks and the addition of PK for the development of the bud universe designed in the two "ladies" is very visible. The Washing still lacks some nutritional integration to gain thickness in its floral appendages, but what leaves me in pure ecstasy is the development of buds from top to bottom on each satellite branch, and not to mention, of course, its central cola. If the Washing has a lot to go before its flowers reach the perfect size, in the Brain Cake the scenario is purely wonderful. Buds that, more than a month before finishing their cycle, are already a marvel in their structure, with sugar leaves loaded and with impressive density. The terpenes are top-notch, and I particularly love the pungent aroma of oranges (or something like that, it must be in its lineage Dos-Si-Dos) and these sweet aromas between earthy and somewhat in the line of liquor... I'm Portuguese, and there's a liquor that is advertised as the "liquor of Portugal" called Licor Beirão, and the aroma of the Brain Cake is very similar to this Portuguese liquor and is very present in some very specific strains that have these terpenes, which are the gift of nature, like Beta-Caryophyllene, which is always associated with strains that darken towards the end, and ocimene, which is a very rare terpene but has a great reach in smell and is present in these strains classified as "American" in this case, the Oregon strains). Si tengo ganas, es ponerme a hacer cara al futuro todo lo que esta gente tenga disponible y entre lo que tengo de ellos en fotodependientes, ya tengo algo también en automáticas que me llenan de curiosidad, por lo que las plantas de este banco de semillas español, pero que es referencia mundial y si, se confirma en absoluto, todo lo que son las criticas que hay sobre lo que sale en los grows de Ripper. Que decir...las hojas fan ya en final de ciclo y se anticipa que la Brain Cake, en mi opinión tendrá cerca de 20 días más hasta el flush y la Washing un poco más pero no mucho y lo que tengo sale a la vista y es impresionante. Cogollos que son en el caso de Brain Cake, auténticos "moonrocks", con una densidad y dureza impresionantes y sobre todo lo demás una carga de resina y glandulas de terpenos que no terminan de salir. Lo que más me impresiona es que de base de ramas al tope y en cada uno de los espacios internudos, hay un par de cogollos preciosos y que son pura resina. Y os digo de modo muy simple, no hay como cuantificar la tasa de THC de estos cogollos por qué en lo que es indicativo estás "flores" son algo como nunca he tenido con ningún otro banco. Os explico, el olor no es lo que más impresiona, pero pasando los dedos, se quedan colados en resina y los terpenos de estos grows son "lo nunca visto". Hay un aroma licoroso persistente, que incluso sin humo, solo de olerlo te quedas "colocado". Después de secado y por la característica muy propia de la dureza y densidad de estos cogollos, el peso de hierba será enorme, pues como os digo, es un momento único lo que estas cepas me están dando en cogollos. Después son ejemplares magníficos de una genética que es superlativa...una genética completísima que se ve que ha sido trabajada al limite de la perfección. La Washing es diferente, es más suelta y más dulzona en sus terpenos, pero es a igual un producto de "humo" que hará las delicias de los amigos que acostumbran a fumarse lo que sale de mis grows. Estou encantado y muy pendiente de los primeros trazos de amadurecimento. Ayer ya he empezado a ver en Brain algun que otro pistilo color ámbar y eso significa que estamos tirando para el final. Ese trazo de tricomas ambar, tiene su significado y será momento para empezar (en Brain ya he empezado) a darle los "rippen" que acostumbro a darle a las "señoras" en el final de maturación y en regla, entre el More Grams de Cannaboom y el "Explota Cogollos" de Agrobeta, les daré la nutrición cara al final. Seguro sobre el final de año (con más una semana a diez días) será tiempo de empezar a darles a lo largo de una semana, agua para flush y por las cuentas, tiempo de esperar el ciclo lunar que será sobre el día 13/01/2024 y en esa fecha, es la prevision para cortarlas y colgarlas. Muy claro, cara a lo que hay en el tipo de cogollos (y sobre todo lo demás, la calidad del material), será no dejar la carga de tricomas caer en un amadurecimento excesivo, pues por lo que veo es clarísimo que las dos cepas de esta temporada, son cargas impresionantes de THC y si dejas maturar en demasia algo de este tipo, un par de caladas y te quedarás en estado comatoso y no es eso lo que es deseable. O sea algo que te dejará seguro muy "colocado", pero sin dejarte "tumbado" y una maturación excesiva es lo último que deseo que pasé. En resumen, algo ya tengo presente y que es que muy difícilmente en nuevas temporadas habrá algunas cepas tan buenas como estas de Ripper y hay que decirles a la gente que lleva el banco, "tíos, soys de la re-puta madre con las cosas que estáis creando en el mundo canábico" y me riendo al expertise que estos grows demuestran. Lo de las hojas "fan" quemadas, ya es un tema sin impacto, pues estamos en final de ciclo...la carga PK hace esto y lo mucho que estamos integrando es por las raíces y las "fan" ahora mismo ya son, no más que accesorios estéticos sin impacto cara a la producción final. El Dios Jah nos acompaña a todos y que nos guarde siempre de los peligros y que nos pueda dar, al final, la proporción del cuidado y cariño que ponemos es cada grow. Como siempre digo, esto es mucho más que una simple planta, muchísimo más que la gente que hace de esto un negocio; y seguro muchísimo muchísimo más que la gente que no entiende que si algunos tienen amor grande a perros y gatos (y también lo tengo) hay algunos como nosotros, que esta planta es algo transcendental en nuestra vida...por el amor y por qué no me agoto diciéndolo, es LA MÁS BELLA PLANTA DEL UNIVERSO!!! Y cambió fumarme mil veces, a un solo segundo, de toda la energía y foco que un "grower" tiene, viendo su trabajo, empezando en esa pequeñísima y frágil semilla y terminando y los colores, matices y olor de una planta, en su apex. 420 siempre y que el Dios Jah nos de siempre protección y sabiduría. TommyBVRSA75 So week 13 and how beautiful my superlative cultivars could be. What is there to say about something like this?!? Today I decided to hang a video so you can keep things very much in mind...and yes, it’s impressive what the sugar and cotton coverage that the leaves and super buds have. And almost everything is coming out perfectly, because we are at the apex of winter with outdoor temperatures today over 17ºC max and 3ºC (!!!) min...the humidity is high and if we manage to keep the levels at 70% indoors it's a lesser evil, because outside today the humidity even with sun is over 90% (my city is surrounded by one of the largest rivers in the Iberian Peninsula; from the Atlantic coast and a huge pine forest and here 90% relative humidity is something very normal, so we have to pull the dehumidifier and try to keep indoor rates around 70/75% and it’s not perfect, but for me, much better than these relative humidity rates during flowering, is being able to have an indoor temperature with lights on around 23ºC and that for cannabis in winter, is a gift from nature. I invite you to check out the sweet cotton coverage on the branches and the super buds that the Ripper cultivars are giving me...to the people at Ripper, they should be given the Nobel Prize for cannabis cultivation because the genetics from these folks, what words are there to classify what they are putting on the market...there are those who spend millions to have ads for almost everything related to lights, seeds, substrates, and nutrients...they are what I call "McDonald's banks," those that hang photos of buds that are colorful and unusual shapes and many times it confirms the idea that what sounds very colorful and appetizing with lights and Photoshops, later when it comes to smoke, is light years away. It is already very visible that there is a clear maturation of the buds with some pistils already brown and amber. With that, the feeding has been adjusted for the final "rippen" push and if you take a look at what is being given to the cultivars we are already at a very respectable PPM (at a very high level - never less than 1500 PPM, which means we are at extremely high mS/cm rates and this is a strategy in my opinion very normal when we enter the final stretch of cultivation and if we have to flush very soon and since my flushing procedure is very based on filling the hydroponic tank with water with some sodium chloride (the salt has the osmotic function of integrating the NKP salts and other macro and micro nutrients that are in excess) and giving the More Grams from Cannaboom and the Explota Cogollos from Agrobeta in the last weeks, which also due to osmotic force and the extremely high dose of Potassium Dioxide, not only for the integration of this salt, but because the concentrations in this proportion, if it is true that they contribute to the thickening of buds (more than giving them size and that is what Agrobeta sells us, but who knows the "Explota Cogollos" knows that more than size, what the potassium salt does is dehydrate the buds and with that the weight of the buds increases due to the aggregation of the resins in the buds. So as you can see, the final feeding to the plant is based on an authentic bomb of P and K and so that you have something in mind the "feeding" is simply an extreme contribution of those vital components of flowering: the RedBoom from Cannaboom which is a massive multiplier and inducer of flowering; the Mega PK 56-35 (which without counting some of the "atomic bombs" from Grotek) is the largest phosphorus contribution available on the market; then the Terpenum which is a bioactivator that ends up being redundant in the potassium contribution and also something that doesn’t get much attention but is an element that in flowering has a very significant weight in the final quality, sulfur which is rarely talked about and which for example for THC production is indispensable and the quality of the material is proportionally related to the presence of sulfur. Then as I already mentioned the More Grams with that "water drying" function filling the cellular space with water along with resins and terpenes. And finally, something is added a couple of times a week that for me is important at this final moment of grow - the Explota Cogollos from Agrobeta and the organic contribution from Gold Green, which just like the Explota Cogollos bases its action much more on potassium than on phosphorus. In short... there’s not much more to say and I’ll just leave you to comment on what your senses teach you. And to give you something unique, I’ve also left you a magnificent microscope photo with the forest of resin and terpene glands so you can see the structures that make our beautiful cannabis wonderful. The microscope world teaches us how incredible the mass of our grows is... God Jah is very present and surely what this season of photodependents and what the people at Ripper Seeds have been perfecting for years results in these botanical and cannabis wonders. God Jah always keep us safe from dangers - from the grow and to the least expected pathogens in the final moments - from fungi in drying to an attack like for example a friend who got Phytophthora in the last weeks and literally the buds "rotted" (something never seen and I told him to be very careful with water retention during the flush...sometimes silly things can make you throw away all the effort and work of a season and you have to pay attention to details and always ask for more and if you are a person of faith like me, that something higher can protect you. With that, we finish another week and very importantly 420 always and much more that green hug wherever you are. TommyBVRSA75 This week and for Christmas, I don't want to photograph much of the exterior aspects of the grows, but I want to share some photos that are quite unusual in the diaries. I have a very good microscope with magnification up to 6000 X, and for me, it's a tool for the growing task that might even be more important than nutrients and inputs; substrate quality; LED or HPS light kits, and even the whole process of drying and curing... but in order to have a very solid presence regarding maturation and to have the cultivars at their peak for starting flush and then the cut, it is essential to have a microscopic understanding of when the crops are just at the point of removing the best load of terpenes and cannabinoids. At the same time, there's a need to understand the structures that give the best organoleptic characteristics to our cultivar, which will translate into what we want to have when smoking. The microscopic photos of my grows this season - the "ladies" photodependent from Ripper Seeds - Washing Machine and Brain Cake. I'll show you something about the characteristics present in these photos - first, we still have a very large amount of crystalline trichomes, which means we're still a bit below the perfect maturation point. Second, compared to the previous week, we've already seen an evolution regarding trichomes designated as milky, meaning an opaque white, and we still have almost no amber or yellow trichomes, which is decisive to say that it's not yet ready, marking our time to start the flush and the cut. The exact ratio for maturation where you have the maximum percentage of THC and avoid it turning into CBN - which will be the maturation of THC and the chemical change that will occur depending on how long you let your "buds" mature, giving you a more narcotic or more cerebral and euphoric effect. This is directly proportional; if you have more THC, you'll have the desired psychoactivity, meaning when the "smoke" makes you more creative, more smiley, and more in line with the "trip" in cannabis, and the CBN that leaves you "sunk" on a couch; in a state of wakefulness (between consciousness and already taken by sleep; a feeling that makes you "melt" like jelly in your muscles and in clearer terms, with a "stone" that knocks you out, well, that will be the point that many like... as I also enjoy being social, I much prefer THC, and since these two "grows" are abundant in resin, we need to be very careful because of the amount of trichomes, the level of THC will be very high, and with a few puffs from a "joint," you'll have a great time, but I can anticipate that, for example, smoking a whole medium-sized "joint" of these strains is like going to outer space and maybe without a return... As I was saying, my perfect ratio in microscopic visualization and from experience is if you categorize the trichomes into: crystalline - milky - amber, the perfect maturation will be when we have five parts: 1 - 3 - 1, meaning 20% or less crystalline; 60% or a bit more milky, and 20% at most amber (even less is better). At this moment, we're about 70% crystalline and 30% milky, with no amber yet. Some will be purple, which relates to terpene glands and some points of anthocyanins and carotenoids, which in the final stages, some strains with cold will turn from red to purple and in extremes to almost blackish purple. So this week, I'm leaving you photos for some of you who still haven't had a very clear view of what you have in your grows, at a microscopic level, so you can see the incredible structure that the cannabaceae and, in general, the plants of the Rosidae clade and the order Rosales present. Cannabis sativa, due to its complexity, takes the crown, and its microscopic structure is like a pinnacle of what nature and botany have achieved in the process of evolution. Much of what you'll see are structures to attract pollinators; structures for predator protection and chemical stress responses against aggressions... evolution in Cannabis has endowed it with endless wonders. TommyBVRSA75 Christmas gift for all the grower brothers who follow my diaries. So, I’ve introduced a second SCROG net to support the weight of the buds, especially those from Washing Machine, which have sequences of buds over 20 centimeters on almost all their satellite branches and their main cola. The enormous productivity of the two Ripper strains I’m growing is very clear. As I’ve said many times, the buds of Brain Cake are true moonrocks due to their density and the amount of resin present. On a macroscopic level, it’s very clear that we are almost at the end of the cycle for our Brain Cake, and I was planning to do the flush around New Year’s, but I’ll probably have to anticipate it in some way. I’m just waiting for some maturation in the base levels, but the amount of buds, their structure, and the amount of sugars present in the floral outlines is incredible. UNBELIEVABLE... The Washing still has to mature a bit, but I was thinking maybe not to let it go too long, as these strains clearly indicate that it will be top-quality smoke, and what I have in hand is fantastic. Let’s see if the weather allows me to significantly lower humidity levels during drying, but yesterday outside, the humidity in my city was around a modest 97% with temperatures around 7ºC at minimum, and when drying begins, it will be essential to have relative humidity around 60%. With that, the drying will take, as I expect, about 12-15 days, and then, before putting them in airtight jars, I’ll still pass the buds through some virgin pine boxes that are very good for drying, and with a couple of Bóveda bags, I’ll try to ensure that in the middle of winter, I can dry and cure what I have in the best way possible. Right now, facing the final flush and the drying and curing processes, we need to have a very certain approach, as it’s clear that whenever harvest seasons occur in the middle of winter, factors that reduce the risks of rotten or moldy buds can happen, and we’ll have to control the evolution of the processes very carefully day by day. Where I live, the extremely high humidity is a very important factor that has severe impacts on different cycle moments, from flowering to the final result. So, it’s crucial and decisive to keep in mind formulas to contain humidity and allow drying to occur as quickly as possible while maintaining a balance between trying to dry quickly without over-drying the terpene cores (a heads up to the brothers and friends who are starting out in this... never put hot ventilation on drying branches... never blow too much direct air on these branches, and for those who don’t have air conditioning, try to ensure that the drying atmosphere doesn’t have two fatal connecting factors: too much heat and humidity in the same space, because if that happens, mold will take your buds and ruin the results of a season (mildew loves temperatures above 25ºC and humidity over 80%, especially with hot air blown on the branches and existing humidity in a non-airtight cabinet, and more so in a dark environment, and that’s how mildew attacks the buds and turns them to crap in no time).
