Hi all!! Back with a strain that I wanna grow since years now!! Had the chance to try it only a few times in Amsterdam and what a blast!! Taste incomparable and amazing high!! Let's go!!
I'll be growing her in my 60x60cm (2x2) where I normally grow my autos, I bet she will be better alone!
Also back with the Bio Tabs solution, even if I had a very bad first try with this nutes (check my Hulkberry and green gelato diaries) I'll make thing go right this time!
So I followed the Bio Tabs recommendations except for the Silicum Flash and Tabs. Added only 20g of the first and will wait week 2 or 3 to put the tabs in and as the life time of this strain is infinite I will be putting one Tab first and the second a bit later, maybe end of veg.
I list here under my hardware:
Box Secret jardin 60x60cm
Extraction Fan Prima Klima 220/360m3 (always on 220)
Oscillating fan Secret jardin monkey fan 20W
Air pot
Houyi Cree Cob leds 2x100W
Biocanna Bio Terra plus Soil
RO water around 50ppm
Homemade self supported lst gear
Cya soon mates!!!
Hi all! Nothing very interesting this week!
I water with Ro and some Vegamatrix boost for the cal and mag.
Still didn't put the tab in.
Every new pair of fan leaves will have two more tips.
See ya next week
Hi all! So this lady is now doubling in size every week!!
I'm kind of afraid because next week will be a very busy week for me, working 7 days straight on an event from 7am to 11pm so I really won't have time to do anything to her. Hope that delaying the training won't make a mess!
No signs of over feeding for the moment, I may be adding one tab next week. We'll see!
Cya in two week!
Hi all! Tree alert!!! 😱 This plant is insane! The growth rate is amazing!! The main stem is already as wide as a clipper lighter!!!
I have to start severe lst on this lady or she is gonna fill the tent badly!!! Being away for more than a week she felt a bit too comfy there!
Initially I planned to keep four pairs of branches as usual but due to her size and the inter-nodal length I'll be keeping only 3 and I bet it's gonna be way enough!
My struggle will be to keep the top branches as flat as possible waiting for the lower ones to catch up the height. And I realize my self supported lst system will be pushed to the limits as the branches are already almost too long! Let's try it!
Side note: I still didn't put the tabs in and she seems just fine so I'll see later if there is any lightening but for now she is ok.
Side note 2: I noticed something quite unusual on this strain. sometimes the secondary branche loose symmetry and are not one in front of the other, just like other strains would do after bloom as begun. But here it appends randomly even during the veg phase! You can check @TOTEM 's diary, his plant behaves the same way! Weird!
I should have more time for some macros next week hopefully! Stay tuned! 😉
Hi all! Back on the Grinspoon diary!
Sry only phone pics for this week!
So this is the first week of 12/12 and obviously no pistils yet.
As I used a bag of soil that sat for a few month in my garage I had to fight against some nasty fungus gnats! 😡 But the great news is I got rid of them! And quite quickly this time! I think my method is on point now.
Here is how:
Get you some Mosquito Bits like you see in the last pic. This is a totally natural product, no chemicals at all! The way it works is as follow: the little yellow chunks you see are inoculated with a bacteria called BTi (Bacillus Thuringiensis israelensis) and this bacteria produces a toxin that is deadly to the larvae of mosquitoes of course but also to gnats! So this bacteria won't hurt any of the beneficial organisms in your soil but only kill the wanted larvae!
The procedure:
I tried many different ways of applying the bits and the only one that as been really effective is this one. Fill with water a bottle/container/can big enough to be able to soak well the soil in your pot(s). Allow chlorine to evaporate if there is. Take one teaspoon of Mosquito Bits per litter of water, 4 teaspoon per gallon and put them in the water. Mix a bit and let this sit for 24 hours. So the next day, filter the water to get rid of the bits (there is no problem to let them in the water but it can be tricky depending on the way you water your plants) and soak your soil with it! Repeat after one week and voila! you should be gnats free!! You can repeat as many times as you need. You can even add your nutes to it (at least the organic ones)
Note that the BTi only kills larvae so it is important to continue to catch the adults with sticky sheets while you apply it. It is a wise idea to treat your house plants too because they are often the source of the gnats. Also careful with the aromatic plants that you buy at your store they are very often infected.
Hope this can help some of you !
Apart from that the Doc is fine! You can see at the bottom of the main stem that she probably would like to shoot some new roots! This plant is really vigorous!
I poured 2ltrs of PK Boost Tea to prepare the bloom phase but didn't had any tabs at all as she seems just fine. I'll eventually add some Bactrex and Orgatrex when the first pistils show themselves.
That's it for this week! Cya!
Hi all!
Have been really busy this week so only a few pics to show you the upcoming monster and ... the first pistil!
I'll be taking some nicer pics next week promise!
Cya!
Hi all!
So we have a well declared flowering now! She is filling up the tent in hardcore mode!! Hope she won't stretch for too long... yeah nevermind, she is going to! Give me chainsaw!
More seriously she seems to enjoy life! I never ever gave so little nutes to a plant! And I don't think she needs more than that. I'll maybe throw in a light compost tea if she brightens too much but I think she is just fine right now.
There is not much to do for now except enjoying the show! I'll be doing a slight defo in a week or two to get rid of a few big fan leaves and of some lower shoots.
Cya!
Hi all!
Everything is fine in the jungle! She is still stretching almost 1cm/0.4inch per day! I was a bit upset by the general light color she has but I read on many different posts on the net that it is very normal for this strain. I'll keep an eye on that anyway.
The more the flowering goes on the more it is obvious that I don't have THE pheno everyone can see on the official pictures. I red there are three distinct phenos for this strain so I have one of the two others.
Also finally installed the new Cree CXB3590 in the box with massive drivers! The power of the sun is unleashed in there now!!! Can't wait to see her pump those buds!
I initially planned a defo but I also red that she doesn't really like that and the leaves being typically sativa thin leaves I think I'll just leave her like this. May still take off some very low shoots that won't reach the canopy.
So the show goes on! Stay tuned! and sorry for the phone pics I wish I had time to make some proper photo shooting.
Hi all! Back with more phone pics!! 😅
Made some changes beginning of the week. The corners where getting a bit too high so I lowered her by removing the grid underneath. This gave her an extra 15cm / 6inch of space.
I fed her with some micro elements using Acti-Vera and she really liked it! She was missing some of those I think, now the leaves are pointing to the sun and she even regained some green color.
I have to admit that this lady gets me quite exited!! 😃 Red here and there that a lot of growers have quitted before the end so I hope I'll be able to bring her to the finish line!
See you next week!
Hi all! Glad to be back at growing and reporting!
So I'll catch up with the missing weeks but some informations may have been lost, I'll try my best to retrieve as many as possible.
Don't expect better than phone pics for the next weeks as I didn't use my real camera till February.
Hope you'll still enjoy the trip. Cya
Hi all!
From now on the Grinspoon will continue to yellow a bit more every day. I managed to check th PH even without my ph meter (used drops tester but not very accurate for unclear water) and it turned out that the soil is wayyy to alcaline so I lowered the PH of the water a bit.
Also as for the other plants there might still be a lack of micros so I will continue with the acti-vera for a while.
Cya
Hi all! Still growing, still yellowing...
I think I may have damaged the roots a bit by feeding with very acidic water once as I miss-calculated the amounts of PH-... 😩
Will see
Hi all!
This plant is driving me crazy actually!! Will continue yellowing and as soon as I feed her a bit more she will show signs of over feeding...
I guess I have been too shy with the Startrex to begin with so some N may be missing but not the other elements... who knows at that point?
Also if I damaged the roots there is little I can do...
I'll do my best to keep her alive till the end.
Cya
Hi all!
And the self-trimming goes on... Not that it disturbs me to have less work at the end but I would like to be sure she makes it there...
Anyway she starts putting out a serious amount of trichomes and the fruity peachy apricoty smell is just fantastic!!
Cya
Hi all!
Ok back to more serious pics here! We are approaching the end of the cycle so I had to take the Canon out!
She is still seriously fading! Almost all the fan leaves are gone and basically all the small greener leaves you see now are in fact sugar leaves and are more or less covered with trichomes! I will let her one more week and then cut.
This means we will be harvesting at the same time with my man @totem !
Cya!
Hi all!
So I finally have some figures for the Grinspoon! The yield is pretty correct despite the fact that she didn't grow in perfect conditions. I think she as been a bit overfed (mainly K) during all the flower phase witch locked N out.
Anyway this lady has one of the best flavor I have smelled on a plant yet!! Nothing like what I could try in AMS coffeeshops for sure (the only places where I could find it)!! Way way more fruity with rip apricot and peach aromas!!! The terpene levels are just so high I almost cough when inhaling the first low heat hits from the vaporiser!!!
And as usual the high is very cerebral and lasts for hours! If you need some deep introspection sessions this strain is for you!
I'll definitely find the time to grow her again, probably next year, and I'll do my best to give her the perfect conditions.
This strain will keep it's special place in my heart, I'm sure I have a special connection to it!
If you are lucky/fast enough to put your hands on Dr Grinspoon seeds just grow her, you won't be disappointed!!
Haha I've just devoured half bag of chips while staring at these final photos!
Well done - well done - well done - well done!
You've got a very interesting pheno, which is completely different from mine, even if both buds looked very similar in the first weeks of flowering (first weeks meaning at least 10 weeks haha!!).
But the most satisfying thing is knowing this diary will be incredibly useful for new generation Dr. Grinspoon growers. Thanks for sharing this adventure bro!
@Tazard, @Nebula420 Haha I always had the same reaction but I finally decided to give it a try. The smoke and high are just unique!! But I had to brainwash my girlfriend coz I'm using "her" box to grow the Grinspoon so I wont be able to grow her strains for quite a while... 😇
@CRiSPrGrow, haha thx mate but there is definitely something unbalanced or a little root issue. Spoiler: she will make it to the end but I feel like she would have liked some more weeks... but I didn't want to take to much risks.
@Magnetous_tryko,she isnt doing so good i think she’s die-ing on me i think i’m gonna give up on her and start over she isnt looking good she isnt growing like she suppose to mmmmmm😉
@Mrs_Larimar, Thanks Miss! 🙏 You should definitely give her a try! Such a special high! Of course if you have an extra tent just for her it's better so she can do her thing without messing with other plants.
@Magnetous_tryko, omg a 2.5k camera, no wonder my iphone can't take pics like that lol. Keep up the good work, can tell it will be a cool diary..followwwwingggg 👌
@Magnetous_tryko,lol I don't know with the looks of how long they take it's not a strain Barneys have sent me ...this strain yours and totems look similar to the hulk berry I did a while back take a look at the week before harvest the buds and funny calaxys look similar I would try her just because how different it is 👍
@biggreens420, Thanks Mate! I can't wait to test her potency! The smell is already amazing, very fruity! Quite different from what I tryed in the Ams coffeshops! When are you giving her a try? 😉
