Hey everyone! πŸ˜ƒ This is my first time growing anything. I assembled the LEDs by myself and everything else was bought pretty much "done". I'm still learning a lot and this first week was indeed quite extreme. The first days were the worst because I was getting quite anxious since I wasn't sure if the method I used to germinate the seed was done correctly (or even optimal) but in the end everything worked out well! 😍 Some days after I noticed the shell from the seedling wasn't getting off 😱 And after reading around I found out that what was happening to "Puff" was called "helmet head" and most of the times it'll fall off by itself but I was still worried because the pictures I saw seemed a bit different compared to what was happening to my seedling so I tried to remove the "skin" that was surrounding the cotyledons by watering its the sides with a Q-tip and some lukewarm water. I waited 15 minutes and then gently pull it off. πŸ˜ƒ I think I did it well because the plant quickly opened itself and the leafs seem to be growing again! I'll keep this updated so if anyone has any kind if helpful information it'd be great to know! And before I forget to mention it, I called the plant "Puff the Magic Dragon" as a charm of good luck! 😜 Thanks for reading! πŸ˜€

I'm getting mixed messages related to RH and seedlings. Some people (and websites) say it should be between 45% to 60% during this stage but others say I should keep it over 60%. I know the roots are not very developed right now but.. what's the real number than I should aim for?

Hello ! Here are the full RH range for each time of the plants lives : Clones: 90% // Seedling (1st week): 80% // Early veg (2nd week): 70-80% // Growth(3/4 semaine): 60-70% // Vegetative phase (weeks 5/6 ): 50-70% // Early Flowering - Stretch (weeks 7/8 ): 50-70% // Flowering - Blooming (weeks 9/12 ): 50-60% // Late flowering : 30-40%. Of course they are just the best RH range you can reach for each stage of the plants life but it's not a "rule" as you can grow with lower RH at each stage but be careful about higher RH as it could lead to mold/bud rot/fungus. I hope it will help you πŸ˜πŸ‘

Is it possible that maybe I underfed my plant and that's causing my actual problem? Is it something normal? Or there's something else going on with it that I should check and fix fast? In general the plant has a lighter green color and old leaves are getting yellow. Thanks!

This is what I see based on the photo's . Firstly , you're plants are suffering from a couple different things here the first real problem I see of course is the yellowing . This is being cause by a combination of 3 things , firstly your plant is suffering from nitrogen deficiency , this is the broad yellowing that's taking over your lead , it's also suffering from CalMg problems this is the yellowing that you see that has started in the middle of the vein's of the plants leaves and lastly PK deficiency more Potassium tho , I can say this because i can see the spots starting on your leaves and they are just random spots they will turn brown eventually and get bigger . This problem is a real easy fix all you need to do is adjust your nutrient solution and these ladies will regain there health and be rocking and rolling harder then before . I would advise that you do the full dosages of PK which should be 4ml/l with fully mature plants and I would bosst the grow part ever so slightly by 1ml/l as well as add 2ml of CalMg per litre of nutrient solution you mix up . This will do a variety of things for you but most importantly slow the yellow restore the not so damaged leaves back to normal and continue to grow prosperously . For the leaves that are too damaged and will not heal properly I would advise that you remove them so they dont make a perfect nesting ground for unwanted intruders such as mites , scale , miners .. the list continues its just over all beneficial to remove those leaves :) Over all your doing well just a few things to touch up and this will be epic ! I hope this information helps you to understand whats happening a bit better to your plant and the very very easy ways you can fix it. -Happy Growing!

Ideally in soil one wants to flush for two weeks before harvest and one wants to harvest when trichomes are 50/50.. but, how do you know WHEN to start flushing? How do you know when the plant is "close" to that moment and does this speed up the color change of the trichomes? Ty!

HighTVanswered grow question 6 years ago
Hey there @bigBadLion! There is no "speed change" no worries! Ideally you want to harvest when the trichomes are Mostly not clear. Personally I go a higher ratio of cloudy to amber. I like 75-10% cloudy/amber if I can get it. To do this I start the flush when the trichomes are nearing the desired levels. Clear Trichomes become Cloudy - Cloudy become Amber! This means I need to starting the week long flush with 65% cloudy and a little amber so they can mature in the last weeks with the flush! The Trichomes will mature at the same rate after the flush so there is no need to worry about last second changes in schedule. (if 50/50 is your target then flush when its 70/30 cloudy/amber because the cloudy becomes amber). I hoped i helped Bigbad please feel free to ask anymore questions you may have! Btw fantastic grow 😎

HighTV
HighTVcommented6 years ago
@BigBadLion, If you want 50/50 you could probably still do 2 weeks flush. If you want 75/25 then start flushing in a few days for a week. If you want to speed the flush up you could use a flushing additive that will help speed it by breaking down the nutrient deposits then you can get 2 weeks of flush in 1 essentially. If not a week of flush is fine just slightly harsher not the end of the world.

BigBadLion
BigBadLioncommented6 years ago
@CRiSPrGrow @HighTV I was thinking to flush for like a week or so, instead of the typical two weeks. The smoke will be a little more rough but at least the plant will have more nutrients available and maybe it'll get a little more "frosty" before I harvest her! I also think I'll also go for 25% amber and 75% cloudy to have a more head-buzz effect (or maybe just go for the 50/50) I'm still unsure!

Stickcommentedweek 96 years ago
Hello @BigBadLion! Well, the flush duration is determined by the trichome's evolution, it can last for 7 days, 14 days, or even more. Take a daily closeup look at the trichomes, and start to flush when at least half of the trichomes have turned from transparent/thin to milky/fat. Once you'll get almost only milky trichomes, the harvest window is open! For an energetic high, harvest before the first amber trichomes appear. For a couch-locking high or medicinal effects you better cut it down once 20-30% of the trichomes have turned amber/red, you'll get more CBN/CBD but less THC. Hope this will help, keep us up-to-date and happy growing πŸ‘Š

hey dude @bigBadLion you should check out @TickTockCroc he is doin a GSC also and had yellowing leaves early. What Ive figured out from this strain, especially with BioBizz nutes being quite mild, it can handle a bit more nutrients than the usual autoflower. Humidity is key, some people believe its not so important - keeping the right humidity level during veg + flower will control the rate at which the plant drinks up the water its fed so the lower the humidity, the faster its going to be taking in nutrients which could cause nute burn even though you are feeding it a correct amount - although nute burn doesnt seem to be the case here. Your plant is yellowing its leaves because its feeding off the nitrogen in them. Very easy to underfeed this strain during veg, but like FastBuds recommend, a lil bit more nutes will do it justice than the regular autoflower - but at this point, you cannot feed it more nitrogen - it is only useful during the start of the veg phase. Dont worry though, the plant is sort of flushing itself right now. Give it some flowering nutes as adding nitrogen at this point will do nothing. Let it feed off its leaves, the food is all going to the bud sites. Flush a week before its done and you can tell its done by checking the trichomes. Clear trichomes = still maturing / Milky trichomes = THC production at its highest / Amber trichomes = THC starts breaking down, but CBN is formed, containing medicinal properties and also what some describe as the 'couch lock' effect - it really depends on the kind of effect you want.

BigBadLioncommented6 years ago
@ProfessorBurps, thanks for your comment man! And I'm checking @TickTockCroc post! The plants look wonderful (but very different even when we're running pretty much the same things!) I also think that I managed to fix most of the deficiencies of the plant with the help of Revive (most leaves now have a proper green color!). Right now I'm also feeding her the recommended dosage of nutrients and soon I'll start with the flush! I also know the differences of cloudy/amber trichomes but my main issue is that I lack the knowledge/experience to know "when" one is supposed to start with the flush so I was curious if anyone had any special technique to make that decision easier (especially if anyone is growing a new strain). I also don't know when FastBuds recommends to harvest this strain or if it's completely on me! Yikes! Thanks again! ;)

Hello welcome to GD, and the first grow is exiting. as you have an autoflower i would recommend you to transplant her asap, into her final pot with a prefertilised soil. Then you lil one can spread her wings and dont have to be diturbed. also you are safe on the nutrient side for about 3-4 weeks. if automatics stay to long in a small container, and the roots hit the ground they can stop growing , and in worst case begin to flower
BigBadLion
BigBadLioncommented6 years ago
@Mrs_Larimar Yikes! That sounds scary! I was originally told to wait for a 2nd or even a 3rd node before thinking to take the seedling to her final container so her root would be more developed and it'd be better to water her later! :o

flowerbuddercommentedweek 76 years ago
Honestly I think it's easier to fix under feeding than over feeding. I usually try to underfeed since I add extra this and that especially during flowering time.... You know you were underfeeding and you're fixing it and giving her the nutes she needs. I think you're still doing great. If you think there's a difference (meaning she's getting better), there probably is a difference for the better. I wouldn't worry too much about the bottom leaves falling off and eventually clip those really yellow leaves off so she won't waist energy trying to save those leaves. She'll turn around! Just keep full on with the bloom nutes during these flowering stages. Good Luck and keep up the good work! Happy growing.

@BigBadLion, basically every strain is different but trychomes take an average of two weeks to mature to cloudy - just what i've learned so far ! hope this helps you time it perfectly bro ! πŸš€
HighTV
HighTVcommented6 years ago
@BigBadLion, If it helps you make your decision easier Its safe to say that the majority of growers agree - the more cloudy the Trichomes the higher the effects from smoking. The types of effects the cloudy trichomes give are mainly dependent on sativa/indica although people will agree that Amber Trichomes give a body high. If you want a Body high Smoking Indica does that! If you want a mental high Sativa does that! If you want a "mixed feel" Smoking hybrid plants does that! If you want to maximize the effects of whatever plant style you choose then more Cloudy Trichomes does that! Hope that makes sense 😎

BigBadLioncommented6 years ago
@CRiSPrGrow, Hey man! Thanks for your comment! I think I'll start with the flush after feeding her one more time (which will be around the end of week 9/start of week 10). I also know about the differences with trichomes but tons of people seem to recommend to harvest when the plant is both 50/50 so I can get a bit of each effects! My main issue right now tho is that I lack the knowledge on how fast they mature (right now pretty much all the trichomes are cloudy, or even more cloudy compared to the pic I shared in my post). Anyway, there are going to be more photos next week with a closeup of the trichomes to give a better idea how they are maturing. Thanks! :D

@Short_N_stockY, Hi! Thanks for your comment! The slight yellowing is still there but it's not getting worse so I suppose it's in under control. Right now tho I'm getting some weird brown dots here and there, so if things get even worse I'll make a growing question about the issue. Thanks! :D
CRiSPrGrow
CRiSPrGrowcommentedweek 16 years ago
hey there, at the seedling stage you're aiming for 70% + then as more leaves come and flowers appear you want to reduce that to avoid RH-related problems like fungus and bateria that can destroy your crop. So in the begging you're looking at 70% or more then in veg , 60%, then in flower 50%, later flower 30-40% why? because low RH promotes the development of trykes and also it avoids things like bud rot and other problems. You're doing well already ! good luck ! πŸš€

Judging by your photos and I hate to be a stickler but, those tricomes were definitely not ready for harvest. What you thought was amber was actually dirt that had gotten on the bud. Or often as myself as a new grower I used to mist water on the buds and keep my humidifier too close. So even the tiniest little leaf litter can make a tricome head turn brown. The key is not looking for brown itself but watching between week 7 and 9 of flower chosing a spot on the plant that is mostly clean and likely protected by a fan leaf around the center of the bud. All the tricomes should become milky over time. Then a few amber ones around week 8 or 9 some sativa dominate strains can go 10 weeks or more. Looking at the amber tricomes they should be full and hanging over just a little bit. If you look at your photos most are still clear and the brown ones are broken off or apart. Looking carefully you can see trash has gotten into the heads. A true amber will look like the rest milky alone the stem and amber translucent on top. Otherwise you did a great job your humidity doesn't really need to be any greater than 55%. The biggest thing with humidity is mostly a winter time issue as air is dry and cold. Plus humidity will also help you heat your home and breathing so it's a win win.

You just finished week 4 of flowering. My guess when I saw the pics was that you still had 4 weeks left, and then when I checked flowering time, it matched up with their recommendation of 8-9 weeks. When you still have long white hairs sticking straight out, you typically have at least a few weeks left. Also your trichomes still look minimal and clear. GSC should pack on trichomes. If it were my plant, I probably wouldnt flush for another 3 weeks and try to let it drink water for another two weeks finishing up. But in my opinion, still got a good month to go. The average auto timeline is 12 weeks.
BigBadLion
BigBadLioncommented6 years ago
@SPICOLIS_VAN, Hey there man! Well, what you say is probably the main reason why it made me wonder if my plant was OK or not (that it wasn't packing trichomes and leaves were turning yellow!) but even when I compared my babies from others in the same stage as my plant in this website it made me wonder what could I do! Also FastBuds recommendation for this specific strain is 8-9 weeks from seed, not from the end of veg! But if Trichomes don't become too cloudy then I don't mind waiting a bit more time! Thanks! :D <3
