birdmountain The Grow Cup is starting for me too! First time indoors, I'm excited. Thank you very much for the equipment. I'm still missing an exhaust fan and a controller, which I want to get soon; I was thinking about the Mars Hydro iHub Smart Power Strip, but unfortunately, it's sold out. If it works well with the manufacturer's app, that would be a step towards an automated system. Otherwise, I'll have to use the Romberg controller, which I mainly use for the cuttings. My plan is to grow a nice, successful plant in the available space of 60 x 60 cm. As a backup, I'm germinating two seeds. Once the seeds show their first root tips, they'll be carefully placed into the Easy Plug propagation cubes, which performed really well for cuttings last year. I first need to get my little grow setup dialed in; that's the task for the next few days. Before the seedlings go into the grow tent, they need to root in the Easy Plugs first. At around 23-24 °C, the seeds usually germinate and sprout, unless the seed has personal issues. :) I'm also getting a humidity controller from Inkbird since the current controller only kicks in when the humidity is too low. That's not enough; I need control over high humidity as well. This way, I'll have the temperature controller with light control from Romberg and a separate humidity control in the grow tent later. But that's not so bad, as the hygroscopic control can also be useful in the cultivation of oyster mushrooms and herb mushrooms. Since I don't have a humidifier yet, I'm just putting a few damp sponges in the grow tent to evaporate water. Maybe this way, I can achieve higher humidity for the vegetative phase. 😅

birdmountain After completing the germination phase, I repotted both plants. The roots were already showing at the edges. Just a few more days under the dome at 23-25 °C and higher humidity up to 70%, then they'll go into the grow box. No issues so far, maybe a bit too long stems due to light spill, but that will work itself out. Overall, I can say that the little Runtz's germinated quickly and well and are strong.

birdmountain The germinated little plants grew all week in high humidity and around 27-29° C. They have developed the second and third leaf nodes. The currently developing leaf pair is already five-fingered. On the last day of the week, they were moved to the grow box, with a humidity of 60% and an average daytime temperature of 24° C. I will raise the temperature a bit more. Since I still have some diluted Root Juice, I watered them with that throughout the week. Conclusion of the week: The high temperature and humidity have done them good. Compared to my seedlings from last year, they are almost a week ahead and sturdier. Thank you for your visit!

birdmountain The plants are doing well; they have now been moved to the grow box, where a lower humidity and temperature are set. The fan always turns on when the humidity exceeds 61% until it reaches 59% again. That's working quite well, but sometimes it seems like the Inkbird sensor isn't functioning properly, as there's fog forming in the box while the sensor reads 60% humidity. One more week of growth, then topping will begin and they'll be repotted into 11L pots. No pests, no diseases so far. 😁

birdmountain Well, a lot has happened in the last week: Both plants were transplanted into their 11 l. fabric pots and topped in the middle of the week. They have handled it very well and are delighting me with their growth. Overall, they are very beautiful plants with their purple leaf stems and light green and dark green leaves. No fertilization was done, as the new potting soil holds enough nutrients for now. But then I set up the Blumat drippers for automatic watering, and now excess water is collecting in the saucer, which is benefiting the other cuttings a lot. That wasn't the plan, though. The precise setting of the automatic Blumat watering is something I'm doing for the first time, so I have no experience with it yet, and I'm seeing the results now. At least I installed drainage in the fabric pots so that the roots aren't damaged. The cuttings seem to love the excess water. The two large back plants are mother plants that I've been keeping alive since August, including a Divine Seeds Fractal mother, for which there is still no result available in the competition 😒. My automatic control looks a bit chaotic; I hope to get that under control soon. 😜 Unfortunately, I can't provide an exact water consumption figure since the water comes directly from the tap and not from a higher container; I suspect the water consumption is currently around 50-100 ml, but that's just an estimate. I wish you another successful grow week and thank you for visiting my report. I'm very open to tips on Blumat control....

birdmountain Generally speaking, the system is quite well balanced so far. During the day, the air temperature is between 24 and 26°C, while the soil reaches around 21.5°C. Since topping last week, a few side shoots have emerged. I have hung the lamp a little higher to have more distance to the plants and hope that the new side shoots will stretch a little and the red coloration of the leaf stems will be reduced. The automatic watering works quite well, but I had hoped for more. Unfortunately, a few fungus gnats have crept in, which I still have to get rid of. I still think it’s a bit premature to start the flowering phase, the ladies should get a bit more size and presence, also because I would like to take a few cuttings. Thank you for your visit and your interest in my grow. Have a great week and lots of aromatic buds!

birdmountain There is not much to tell. The habit of the two Runtz ladies has become stronger overall and they have gained some height in the last week. The setup in the grow tent is working, unfortunately I haven't been able to use the nematodes against the fruit flies yet, but I haven't noticed any damage to the plants yet. I will increase the fertilization from now on, but will continue with the vinasse fertilization. The pictures are a little too light in color, this is due to the lamp, the leaves of the ladies have a nice rich green color, the red on the leaves is slowly disappearing and the plants are beginning to stretch. All in all, they are beautiful, strong, resistant plants so far and I hope they stay that way. I wish you continued good growth and may your setup bring you good harvests. 😁👌

birdmountain This was the last week of growth, from now on we will switch to flowering. There has been increased growth in height, about 8 cm in one week. The nematodes are feasting on the fruit fly larvae, there are considerably fewer on the way. I have moved the two Runtz ladies around a bit, so they have a bit more space, but I realize that there can only be one in this small 60x60 cm box! In 2-3 weeks I’ll have to make a tough decision and move one of them to the windowsill, where she will of course be looked after. I could actually use a second grow box.😄 The biggest change this week though was adding a fertilizer tank for automatic watering, previously the automatic watering came from the tap and I had to manually apply fertilizer. I hope the plants will thank me for it. But not to forget, I have defoliated a little so that the smaller shoots are no longer covered by the large finger leaves and also removed yellow old and unnecessary leaves in the lower area to create a little more airy space. My setup still presents me with a few problems that still need to be solved. The humidity rises too much at night, sometimes to over 82%. The running fan even increases the humidity, so I have switched it off at night. The fan is now set to run briefly in the morning, at midday and in the evening, which I hope is enough for the time being. When the ladies are in full bloom, however, I’ll have to think of something to lower the humidity permanently. I am open to your advice. Thank you for your visit and may you grow big buds.👏

birdmountain I've made a few changes in the last week. The problem of high humidity at night is now a thing of the past, as I've bought an exhaust fan with an activated charcoal filter. This was still missing from the equipment. Now there's no more telltale smells coming through the front door because the activated charcoal is doing its job. Unfortunately, and how could it be otherwise, the activated charcoal filter fell on one of the Runtz plants during installation and severed one of the main branches beyond repair. 😞 During the preparations for the conversion, I must have come across the valve for the water supply to a Blumat dripper, which led to a small flood in the grow box overnight. That's why the Blumat drippers for the larger plants have been switched off for the time being. But otherwise “all is well”! 😂 In order not to let the two smaller plants (Euforia and Critical Orange Punch) drown out the two Runtz ladies, I put them a little higher and thus created a small SOG. The two smaller ones are in 3-liter pots. Growth is going well, there are no signs of disease, the automatic supply of water and fertilizer is working, even if the organic fertilizer in the water does have a strong smell.😏 But the carbon filter helps. The first week of the changeover to 12/12 hours of light is over. The results of this change should be noticeable by the end of next week. Removing a few leaves from time to time should be enough now, but going on vacation and leaving the system to its own devices... maybe at the next grow. Have a great Grow week, spring is coming soon and the gray time is coming to an end. 😀

birdmountain Both plants have grown in the last week, but at different rates. The rear plant in the grow box has now reached a height of 50 cm, while the front plant, one of whose branches broke off last week, is now 35 cm tall. The habit is also different; the smaller plant is generally stockier and more compact, while the other is very strong with larger internodes. The 60 x 60 cm are now fully utilized. I bought a pH meter and a TDS/EC meter from a special offer. The first time I used them, I noticed that the TDS value was too high and the pH value was at 7.3. Both values have now been adjusted. I deliberately set the TDS value to 500 for the time being to reset any existing over-fertilization. However, there is no visible damage to the leaves. The small plant has recovered from its accident; fortunately, there was an intact younger one under the broken branch that is now taking its place. The fertilizer has now been changed to a mixture of growth and flowering. Next week is already the equinox! Have a great grow week! 😃🙏

birdmountain A week in which everything went well, the flowers are now clearly visible and growth is present. The growth of the two phenotypes is clearly different, although they are treated identically; same soil, same fertilizer as required and drip irrigation. The smaller of the two has now reached 40 cm, while the other has a current height of 67 cm. I had to move the lamp higher. I would prefer greater uniformity. Whether this will affect the yield remains to be seen, the smaller plant has more compressed internodes, but not less overall. The presence of trichomes is also noticeable on the larger leaves. The overall water consumption has now increased, but I have switched off the humidifier. Have a great grow week, the harvest is getting closer again. 😏👌

birdmountain This week, the height growth of both plants has decreased significantly, there has been hardly any growth in the last few days, but the flowers are forming more and more. The fertilization seems to be well adjusted so far, there are no deficiencies to be seen, both plants have beautiful, juicy, dark green leaves. Unfortunately, the smaller plant produces smaller buds, but they smell very good, especially in the morning, shortly after the light is switched on. Then the smaller plant smells similar to a honeydew melon with some green cucumber scent mixed in, while the larger lady smells much more neutral and cannot be categorized. The taller lady has now reached a height of 75 cm and the smaller one remains at 47 cm. Next week I will start with the additional fertilization with Plagron Green Sensation, I am curious about the effect. The water consumption of the plants in the grow box has increased considerably, which is due to the fact that the outside temperatures are slowly increasing and this also has an effect on the inside temperature during the day. The aim from now on is to produce flowers. When I see the many trichomes on the larger leaves too, I'm already thinking about how to process them. 😋😍 I wish you a successful week of growing!

birdmountain There is not much to report from this week. Plagron Green Sensation is now being used at 1 ml/l. The plants are now in full bloom. I have tried to reduce the humidity to 40%, but so far I have not succeeded. I am currently only achieving around 50% humidity with my on-board products. All the plants have largely stopped growing. There are a few thrips on the way, but they are not getting out of hand, maybe the nematodes I added at the beginning are working after all. Only about 5 weeks left until harvest, I'm curious to see how the flowers of the two Runtz will develop. The scent of the small plant with the small buds is sweet, lovely, melon-like, the other plant certainly has the larger buds and the larger harvest, but the scent is more modest. Have fun in the current grow week and thank you for visiting my grow diary.😄

birdmountain There is not much to say about the current flowering phase; the buds are getting thicker, the nitrogen fertilizers have been discontinued so that only Plagron Sensation is given. The pH value is between 6.5 and 6.4. The larger plant has become so heavy that I had to support it a little. If the humidity stays between 45-50% on average, I'll be happy. I wish you a nice week and an early harvest!

birdmountain This journey is slowly coming to an end. Both plants have been flushed with plenty of water to wash out the remaining fertilizer salts that affect the taste. As the weather is very pleasant at the moment, both ladies are spending their daylight hours outdoors in the sun. The buds have become incredibly resinous. My personal favorite is always the smaller of the two, although the yield will be lower, it is the scent that makes the difference and the compactness of the growth. The taller lady needs to be supported so that she doesn't collapse under the weight of the buds. I have already had to remove two smaller branches. The deep duck green leaves are starting to turn purple in some places. It looks like harvest will be next week. Thanks to Zamnesia for these seeds and for enabling me to take part in my first indoor grow. I have learned a lot. 😅

birdmountain It's over, now it's time to harvest. Two very different phenotypes will soon be tested in the vaporizer for their taste, aroma, and effect. Even if the smaller of the two plants could perhaps have stood a little longer. There was no more room in the tent and the top bud of the large Runtz started to burn. I don't think such different phenotypes are suitable for a SOG, but the situation is different with cuttings from them. All in all, uncomplicated plants, but I never got the thrips completely under control. This was my first indoor grow and I realize that my grow box only has room for one plant if it is to be a beauty queen. At least I managed to get some nice leaf coloration on the larger plant. You can see the wild, impetuous growth in the pictures. Thanks to Zamnesia for letting me try this strain! I still have a few seeds for further grows. Many thanks also to Plagron for the flower fertilizer. I would never have believed that such thick flower bulbs were possible before this grow. I wish all the other participants in this contest a successful conclusion and a good harvest! P.S. When I look at the frostiness of the buds as they grow, I get a bit scared...

Happy Harvest Day!

--- Runtz by Zamnesia was easy to grow and also coped well with the thrips. I had a few small floods during the grow, but none of the plants were bothered by them. No mold or bush rot occurred, but the humidity was too low until the end and lab at a maximum of 59% at night. The scent of the buds is very fruity, resinous and strong. The only thing that bothers me is the big differences in phenotypes. Two plants of the same size would have been better in the grow box and would have yielded more, so only 9/10 points. My favorite of my Runtz plants is definitely the smaller one, it has firmer buds, is very easy to trim and full of trichomes so it looks like they came out of the freezer. Thank you Zamnesia for letting me take part in this contest. The buds have already been dried for 8 days and continue to curl in the jar. To my surprise, the scent has changed, the larger one is now surprisingly sweet and fruity, while the smaller one smells more gassy. The buds of both plants are firm and dense, and the sugar leaves were also extremely covered with trichomes, so they were carefully trimmed. A bud of the smaller plant has already been tested in the vaporiser. I find it to be quite strong, fast-acting, on the indica side. It's good for a relaxing evening without any mental effort, especially as memory starts to fade. Good for chilling out on a few free hours but not a couchlocker. On the exhale, the flavour is sweet and caramelly with herbal notes and very light woody aromas. Supplementary smoke report of the large plant: The scent of the buds is somewhat woodier with more character than the buds of the smaller plant. The smoke is velvety smooth, otherwise similar to the small plant. It takes effect quickly and gives a pleasant, relaxed body sensation.

birdmountain The smaller of the two was trimmed and is drying. The smell is incredible on my fingers. The larger plant was trimmed a day later. The flowers are larger but also much fluffier. The scent is less sweet. When still moist, it smells like incense and mint, fresh but definitely not like a meadow.

Looking healthy, good luck with the contest! I'd try to getting rid of the thrips while the plant is still in early veg.

@DeltaEye, my experience from vegetable growing is that wind helps against thrips. It can also be useful to cover the soil of the seedlings with a layer of fine sand.
