GanjaGecko 3 seeds of the HELGA strain from StickyExpertsSeeds were directly placed in the small seedling pots. After 3 days in the seedling pots, two ladies have seen the light of day, and on the 4th day, the third lady also emerged. The substrate mix consists of about 70% BioBizz Lightmix and about 30% coco with perlite. On top of the finished substrate mix, about 10% Megaworm from Plagron and a little BioGrow from GreenHouseFeeding were added to ensure the ladies have everything they need at the start. Watering was done with 1g/L BioEnhancer and 1ml/L PowerRoots. The pH value was adjusted to 6.0 before watering. Each lady received about 30-40ml in the seedling pots at the beginning. With a small heating mat and the domes on the pots, a warm and humid climate is created, which the ladies need to germinate. On the day the ladies see the light of day, the domes are removed, and the ladies can feel their first breaths of air.

GanjaGecko In the first week, the focus was solely on ensuring that the small seedling pots didn't dry out. By the end of the first week, two of the three ladies were placed in 15L fabric pots each. The two ladies have made themselves comfortable in the 60×60×160 cm DiamondBox under the Sanlight Q3W gen.2 with a maximum output of 120W.
The Sanlight Q3W is dimmed to 55%=66W. This gives the ladies about 400ppfd. The distance from the LED to the ladies is 40cm. This setting will remain until the switch to 12/12.
The substrate mix in which the ladies are cozy consists of about 75% BioBizz Lightmix and about 25% coco with perlite (70/30). Additionally, for soil improvement, there was:
- 1 tsp/L Mega Worm
- 2g/L rock dust
- 5% BioChar
In the pot where the ladies have found their place, the hole where the ladies are set was sprinkled with some Great White Mycorrhiza and Dynomyco Mycorrhiza. On the surface, there was 60g of BioGrow from GreenHouseFeeding, which was thoroughly mixed into the substrate. The soil was moistened with a pressure sprayer/tree sprayer, and then each lady received 1ml/L SilicRock, 1ml/L PowerRoots, 1ml/L PureZym, 1g/L BioEnhancer, and 0.75g/L Dynomyco Spark. Each lady got 2× 300ml from the top into the pot and 100ml in the saucer. All of this was done at a pH value of 6.0. Additionally, nematodes were added to the water to prevent pesky fungus gnats.

GanjaGecko Week 2 in growth. Both ladies have adapted super well to the new pots. Lady#1 (left) is stretching just a bit more than Lady#2 (right). I hope the difference won't be too significant and that I didn't throw out the wrong lady. If the height difference becomes too large, Lady#2 will be topped and Lady#1 will get a bit more intense LST.
The side branches are developing quite quickly on both ladies, so LST can start by the end of next week or the beginning of the week after.

GanjaGecko In week 3, the ladies were topped on day 15. Both ladies are growing incredibly fast. It's almost like they're going wild! 💚
Lady #2 was slightly underpinned. In the coming weeks, we will definitely need to adjust that again. For Lady #1, the main stem is turned slightly to the side every day to control the height difference a bit. This way, the lower stems also get a bit more light, which helps with the growth.

GanjaGecko In week 5, some shoots were lightly twisted daily to balance the height difference. One or two shoots were topped to give the small side shoots a chance to gain some height and make the canopy a bit more even. You can already see some pre-flower signs on both ladies here and there, and the small side shoots have made good progress by the end of the week. So tomorrow will be the first day of 12/12 lighting, which will also initiate the flowering. HELGA wants it that way!
That's why today I added the last liter of substrate to the pot, mixed with 60g of BioBloom from GreenHouseFeeding, 15 tsp of Megaworm, and 4 tsp of BatGuano from Plagron. Each lady was watered with 1.3L. Helga is truly a workhorse. You can watch her grow and grow and grow every day. She just doesn't take a break. Crazy.

GanjaGecko In week 1 of flowering, on the first day of the week, the Sanlight Q3W was dimmed from 50%=60W to 80%=96W. From day 10 after switching to 12/12, the two ladies will then receive maximum power.
Midweek, a second SCROG net was added to the tent. The ladies have clearly started to stretch from the second day of flowering. With so much hanging on the ladies later, the second SCROG net won't hurt. Helga is really an incredible workhorse. She doesn't even know where to put all her shoots. It's insane.
For flowering, there's some additional light. A Far Red light strip in the 730-745nm range - the Spider Farmer SUPP-IR 16. This is turned on for 10 minutes as a little sleep aid before the Sanlight goes off and continues for 20 minutes after the Sanlight goes off. The lighting with Far Red LEDs accelerates the metabolic shift after the light goes out. This allows the ladies to recover better at night and start the new day refreshed. Plants have an absorption spectrum that sees Far Red light as an indicator of the onset of darkness. We can take advantage of this fact with artificial lighting. The so-called phytochromes are responsible for the absorption of Far Red light waves. These are a type of photoreceptor proteins that influence a variety of plant growth processes. Phytochromes control processes such as germination, flowering, and photoperiodism, which is the regulation of the day-night rhythm. Essentially, there are two types or conformations of phytochromes in plants: The Pr-form (r=red) has its absorption maximum at around 660 nm and the Pfr-form (fr=far red) at about 730 nm. What do phytochromes have to do with plant lights? Quite simply: By using the Far Red spectrum, relevant processes like photoperiodism can be targeted to optimize nighttime recovery and thus photosynthesis, leading to better yield results. If the low-energy Far Red radiation stays on for about 10 to 15 minutes longer than the regular light in the evening, it acts as a "sleep initiator." Helga is growing so much that I'm starting to worry that space in the tent will be a bit tight. I just hope the stretch settles down soon. The LED can't be hung any higher from now on. So far, especially Lady#1 is visibly growing 2-3cm every day. Lady#2 was raised a bit more. The small side branches on Lady#2 aren't growing as strongly as those on Lady#1. Lady#1 could probably have filled the tent in the same time. I had to keep removing side branches because Helga is just incredibly vigorous! I would have cropped one or two branches, but I didn’t know where to put them. 🤣 Otherwise, the lower side branches would have been covered. 😄
Both ladies are now filling the tent well. The height difference has been somewhat balanced out by the last adjustment.
By now, clear flower formations are visible, and a slightly fruity smell is becoming noticeable.
The distance to the LED is now only 32cm. Over time, as the flowers grow, I'll need to pay close attention for signs of bud bleaching, and if necessary, dim the LED a bit.

GanjaGecko At the beginning of the 3rd week of flowering, both ladies got a lollipopping. The stretch has finally kicked in. The ladies shouldn't have stretched any further. The flowering is in full swing; you can look into the tent every day and notice visible progress from the hardworking Helga 💪🏽. By the end of the week, there was another proper defoliation. The distance to the upper buds in the middle is only 25cm now. The lady on the left can't go any lower, and if I lower the lady on the right, the side branches will be too far from the light again. So, I will have to accept some bud bleaching on the two buds in the middle. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to use a tent that is 160cm high with 15L pots 😄. I think I will switch back to 12L fabric pots in the future with the 160cm tent.
Currently, both ladies are getting 1.5L three times a week each, with 200ml always in the saucer.

GanjaGecko In the 4th week of flowering, I tied one of the shoots that was directly in the middle under the LED to the side. This way, no flower underneath gets shaded, and the main bud hopefully won't suffer from bud bleaching. This will be a bit more difficult with the other bud in the middle of Lady#2. I can live with a bud that is bleached at the top. 😄
At the end of the week, there was a little defoliation to ensure good air circulation so Helga can continue to focus on her lush flower production.
Currently, both ladies are getting 1.5L every 2 days each week. Of that, always 200ml in the saucer.

In the 5th week of flowering, the buds have gained quite a bit of volume. So far, Helga is super stress-free and isn't being a diva at all.
To keep the temperatures from rising above 27°C during the day when it's too warm outside, the tent is opened during the day and an additional fan is set up in front of the open side. Due to the attic situation, it's a bit more work in the summer to ensure optimal conditions during the flowering phase. The flowering phase in winter is definitely more enjoyable. 😄
Helga#2 is starting to show some brown pistils. The node spacing is also looking nice and tight. Helga#1 is a bit behind, but she'll definitely be the one with the thicker buds. 😍
Slowly, a pleasant smell is spreading. So far, it's leaning towards lemony/blood orange. Hard to say. It will definitely be more precise in a week or two.

In the 6th week of flowering, the buds have continued to swell. By the end, some branches needed a bit of stabilization because the buds are starting to lean to the side due to their own weight. Both ladies are still growing buds daily. With Lady #1, I had to support more branches than with Lady #2. If Helga keeps working hard, they might be ready for harvest by the end of next week. Ideally, it would be a dream for them to dry out and spend a week in the jars. This way, the whole harvest won’t mold if you’re away for a few days. If necessary, the ladies will stay in the tent a bit longer and be partially dried in the tent at 50% LED during the time I’m away, and then hung up as soon as I’m back. This also shortens the hanging time by about 2 days, and at 50% LED, the trichomes won’t mature too much.

In the 7th flowering week, Lady#2 surprised me again. Although I didn't think the buds would get any thicker, Helga shows just how damn hardworking she is. The buds have swollen even more! With Lady#1, it's just starting to happen that the buds are getting thicker. A small side branch is already hanging slightly under its own weight. So, Helga's description is by no means exaggerated. She's a machine 💪🏽 Helga will definitely end up in the garden again! I think Helga#2 could be ready next week. Since Lady#1 takes about 1-1½ weeks longer, both will be hung up at the same time when Helga#1 is done. Whether they will dry in the pot during the week or already be hanging will be decided spontaneously. If the amber content just starts or is at a maximum of 5-10%, Helga will dry in the pot for a week. However, when the Helgas are ready, they will be hung up to dry during the week off. That way, there's something to look forward to when you come back.

In the 8th week of flowering, there hasn't been much to do. I've only watered as needed since the ladies aren't drinking as vigorously anymore. The rainy weekend has significantly increased the humidity. I hope not much happened due to the excessive airflow. With two fans above the canopy, two small fans under the canopy, and one fan in front of the open tent, I'm pretty well equipped against stagnant air. Next year, I will definitely upgrade with a dehumidifier. If all goes well, the ladies will be hung up to dry at the end of week 9 of flowering. Until then, I'll only water minimally so the soil doesn't completely dry out, but the ladies also won't go into drying too packed. Meanwhile, the H²O stress positively affects flavor and trichome production.

In the 9th week of flowering, there was only minimal water left. Just enough so that the substrate doesn't completely dry out and the buds and trichomes can continue to mature. Just with a bit of H²O stress 😄
On day 98/63F, there was water for the last time. For the coming week, there will be no more water. The two Helgas will be a bit dried out in the pot by the end of the week and then hung up to dry at the end of the coming or current week.
They could have been hung up already, but I wanted the lower buds to get a bit denser.
So, most of the trichomes are milky and will ripen well by the end of the week. For the last week, the Sanlight Q3W was dimmed to 100W. This creates a bit less heat and the terpenes are somewhat preserved.

Not much has happened in the 10th week of flowering. The Helgas received water for the last time on day 98/63F and have been drying out in the pot over the week and will now be hung up to dry in the tent for about 7-10 days. They could have possibly been hung up last week. Due to the 7 days of vacation, I decided to let the two Helgas dry out in the pot and tent for one last week. That was definitely the right decision. The buds have swelled up incredibly beautifully, and the lower buds have also gained good volume. The description from the guys at Growberg is not exaggerated. Helga's buds were even resting on the SCROG net. Really an incredible workhorse.
The harvest update will come when Helga's flowers go into the jars and are tasted for the first time.

Helga war super stressfrei und ist unglaublich Produktiv! Die meisten Buds müssen zum Ende gestützt werden. Ist allerdings ein Problem was kein wirkliches Problem ist Helgas Geruch geht hauptsächlich Richtung Zitrus, begleitet von Pinie. Dabei kommen erdigen aber auch süße Untertönen durch.
Lady#1 geht in Richtung earthy/pinie mit leichtem zitrus im Hintergrund.
Lady#2 riecht hauptsächlich nach zitrus, wird von einer süßen candy-note begleitet und hat Pinie eher im Hintergrund.
Nach 2-3 Wochen curing ging Helga#1 in einen fruchtigen Unterton und Helga#2 bekam einen fruchtigen candy Unterton.

GanjaGecko Helga wasn't hung up to dry completely. The risk of mold was too high for me. A lot of wire would have been needed to bind them so that the buds wouldn't stick together due to their own weight. Therefore, both Helgas were hung to dry in individual branches with a few side branches here and there. Two PC fans were running crosswise below, and a 5W fan provided some air circulation underneath. None of the fans were directed straight at the drying plants. All the fans were positioned to circulate air in the tent.

@SpliffyRand, thank you very much. On one hand, you can calculate it if you have a PAR map for the LED. Then the Photone app works quite well with a homemade paper diffuser. I recently got a PAR meter. It doesn't show 100% accuracy either. The spectrum of the Sanlight starts at 400nm and goes up to 780nm; the 80nm above 700nm is not measured by the PAR meter. For that, you would need an ePAR meter. But that costs more again. With a PAR meter, you already have a pretty accurate reading. I paid around €90 for the PAR meter. You don't need it often afterwards, but it makes everything a bit easier.
@GanjaGecko, I can recommend the €30 diffuser clip that measures very accurately with the Photon app. I was able to test it with a professional Apogee device (it only had a few % deviation). Printer paper works too, but it really depends on the thickness of the paper.

Helga is very beautiful. Sexy and looks like good smoke. I'm glad you also recognized how important airflow is 💪. I like to exaggerate a bit too. You don't blow on the ladies with hurricane strength, but the air movement is my secret sauce. I'm often asked about my secret ingredient, and airflow is definitely up there with genetics, proper watering/fertilizing, and VPD. 😏
@Stony_German, I'm really happy about what happened with Helga 😌 I'm very curious about the taste and effect. I only had a 5W fan in the tent at the beginning of the first run with the Lemonite and had to halve two main buds at the end because they had mold. After that, I added at least two 5W fans to the tent. From then on, I always had two fans in the tent and one in reserve in case a fan gives out. 🙂
Then during a Blueberry Muffin run, I had spider mites. From that point on, I also paid attention to airflow under the leaf canopy. And bam, no powdery mildew and no spider mites anymore. Now I'm also using predatory mites prophylactically. Due to the attic situation and the associated 26-28°C and 50-70% humidity, the tent is left open in the summer while the LED is running, and there's also a fan circulating in front of the tent.
Helga looks really great. Awesome genetics. Your plan sounds good. If she’s not quite there yet and you want to let some time pass, you can also turn your light down to a max of 400-500 ppfd and on the last day, just before you leave, water her really heavily and make sure nothing dramatic happens during the week.
@Stony_German, so far Helga is awesome. Today I noticed three headbuds each have a Nana that has grown out like a horn from the tip. Of course, it was removed. Now I’ll keep observing. With a maximum of two weeks left, not much will happen anyway. Today while checking the trichomes, I could imagine the ladies just chilling during the vacation.
Looks like a fast and high-yielding genetic variety. From the frost, it doesn't have to hide either. I'm glad that the Hillbillies are promoting solid genetics. It would be a shame if those likable dudes ruined their reputation. 👍 I'm curious to see how thick the buds will get.
@Stony_German, I'm also very happy with Helga. The only shoots that have grown this high are the two main stems that resulted from the topping. If I had topped them again, the main stems wouldn't have shot up so much, and the side shoots would have grown a bit more. For the next run with Helga, we know how she behaves.💪🏽 I'm also not sure if Helga will come back after this, and we'll see if we can perfect the run, or the next run will be BobbyMcZee from DopeSeeds.
