Started using paper towel method on the afternoon of 5/24. Placed in my veg hydro rig on the evening of 5/26. Seedling / early veg rig is a two gallon bucket with a lid, a top feed pump and a two air stones. Nutrient levels are very light. PH is around 7. The light used is a 12W LED bulb on for 24 hours per day.
On Day 8, she already has a little root coming out of the bottom of the plastic canister she is in. It isn't in the reservoir yet but it should be later today or tomorrow.
On Day 14, she looks pretty good to me. This rapid growth is why I use top fed hydroponics. She has enough root mass in the reservoir that I'll likely take the top feed pump out soon. My only complaint is that some of her leaves look a little wilty and are curling up. I think this is because I have the 12w LED light ~ 12" from the top of the plant. Those curling leaves won't matter in a week or so when I turn the bigger light on.
On day 18, I topped her to set up my manifold. Specifically, I topper her down to her second and third nodes. I think I did it a little early. I also messed up and accidentally broke a growth tip on one of the sides. No good. She'll be okay though.
On day 21, I still think I topped her too early but she is recovering and her remaining growth tips are growing well. I'll give them another week or so and start tying them down and removing the old wilty leaves. The growth tips have perked up and grown significantly. I'll do her first reservoir change soon.
On Day 24, she is doing fine. I did her first reservoir change today. She is filling out so I took everything off other than the main growth tips. Also, this has been a lesson learned regarding topping a plant and drinking alcohol at the same time. I had a few beers and I decided to top her sooner than I should have which I regret now. I wish I would have waited a few more days. Also, in the course of topping her while buzzed, I messed up one of her growth tips. I think it'll all still work as she's filling out and I'll still have plenty of growth tips, I just regret my stupid decision and my non steady trimming hand. Also, I realize that I had the bigger LED light at 30" away for the last 8 days. I kept it high as I didn't want to shock the plant going from a 12w LED to a 200W LED but I should have lowered it sooner. I lowered it to 27" tonight and will lower it to 24" in a couple days as this is the manufacturer's recommended height. I looked at my last grow and that plant was much further along at this point. I guess it isn't a huge deal as I'll just veg longer until my she gets where I want her.
On Day 28, not much to report. She is starting to grow fast again. I still regret topping her and setting up my manifold as early as I did. On the flip side, it only cost me time. That mistake is probably going to extend my veg time by a week or two but otherwise nothing too bad happened as a result of it.
On Day 35, I chopped her for the second time to set up my manifold. Typically, the growth tips on plants are more predictable and symmetrical than on this one. I am not sure if this is due to the stress I put her under by chopping her early or if its due to her genes or just this seed. Anyway, another couple weeks and I'll flip her to flower.
On Day 43, she recovered quickly from her latest series of topping and her manifold was established so it is almost time to switch to flower. The point of manifolding is to have a lot of tops that are all at the same height and will develop at the same rate. This manifold is not as uniform as I'd hope but it'll still work. Otherwise, not much to report. She looks healthy and happy to me. 12-12 soon.
On Day 49, she looks healthy and happy to me. She is just starting to stretch. I'm feeling a little better about my manifold than I was a couple weeks ago. Her tips are at basically the same height and I'm excited to see the shape she stretches into.
On Day 56, she looks healthy and happy to me. She is isn’t stretching much. I observed the beginning of buds today. My canopy isn't as uniform as I could have hoped for but it'll still work fine. One side has 4 colas and is a little higher, the other has 5 and is a little lower. Looking forward to some real buds!
She is stretching a little. Defoliated the center of the plant. This seems like a great strain to use manifolding on because it is stretchy. One side had 5 colas, the other side had 4. I removed one of on the side that had 5 as it was too close to another cola. So they're symmetrical now.
What 8 letter word can have a letter taken away and it still makes a word. Take another letter away and it still makes a word. Keep on doing that until you have one letter left. What is the word?
On Day 67, day 22 since the switch to 12-12, I removed all the growth tips and most of the leaves from around the base of the plant. This is part of the manifolding process. This prevents the plant from spending energy creating growth tips that won't get enough light and won't mature properly. The base of the plant also tends to be a busy place so keeping it clear allows air to flow through there the fans to do their work better.
On Day 70, day 25 since the switch to 12-12, I think the stretch is about done. Overall, I give my manifold an A- or a B+. We'll see how it goes from here on. I'm happy with having 8 colas but their bases and symetricalness from the stump isn't perfect. Also, 6 out of 8 are within 1" of each other in height. So that's sweet. The other two aren't too far off but not perfect. I did a little more defoliation of leaves in the center of the plant today to help get light into the center of the plant. Not much to do but wait now.
On Day 77, day 30 since the switch to 12-12, I think the stretch is done. I'm really happy with my manifold and the general structure of the plant. She is holding herself up fine and fits in my grow space well. She looks happy and healthy to me. I've done a little more clean up around the base of the plant but otherwise, not much to do but wait for her to ripen. She is filling out nicely. I'm also pretty happy with her internodal spacing.
On Day 83, day 38 since the switch to 12-12, she is doing fine. My manifold is actually pretty sweet. She is fattening up and putting on weight. The weight of her buds is naturally starting to pull the tops of the colas out from the center of the plant. This is allowing for air and light into the center of the plant. One bad thing is that I was cleaning up little bits of growth from the base of the plant and cut most of the way through one of my eight colas. Shoot!!! Tried to fix it with tape but it was too badly cut. Another stupid mistake. At least I still have 7 colas and a pretty healthy plant though. Disappointing and will cost me harvest weight. Oh well. How much CBD do I need though? It's disappointing but okay.
On Day 90, day 45 since the switch to 12-12, she is doing fine. I added some simple support for the buds with some bungees and wire but my manifold is doing most of the work. She is fattening up and putting on weight. The size and shape of her buds are getting bigger and more mature looking. After accidentally sniping one of her colas off last week, I think my yield will be impacted. However, I should still get 2-3 ounces which should be plenty of CBD. Not much to do but wait.
On Day 97, day 52 since the switch to 12-12, she is doing fine and continues to fattening up and put on weight. Not much to do but wait at this point. I'll start looking at trichomes soon.
On Day 104, day 59 since the switch to 12-12, she is looking good and heavy. I don't know if CBD harvest cues are the same normal THC cues (cloudy trichomes, a few amber ones). There are a few little new pistils growing but I am not sure if that is my environment or genes expressing themselves. We've had some heat here in NorCal. I've mostly managed through it fine but she is drinking a little more than I'd expect. I think that is what is causing some burnt tips as she is drinking more and getting more nutrients. The breeder says she should be done or close by now. I'll likely give her one more week to make sure she's done.
On Day 111, day 66 since the switch to 12-12, she is doing fine. Not much to report. I'm waiting on the trichomes turning milky with a few of them amber. I think we're close but not sure. I think I'll likely harvest this next weekend which would put us at 72 days from the switch to 12-12.
On Day 117, day 70 days since the switch to 12-12, I'm debating between harvesting tomorrow and waiting. She looks close but it looks like she could use another couple days or maybe a week. Breeder says she'd be ready in 60 days but I'm at 70 and I'm thinking I'll harvest at 77. She is heavy!!! For the parents out there, she is like an 8.5 month pregnant lady; heavy and not very flexible and I'm just trying to keep her happy for another week or so. Reduced the nutes and I'll start flushing her soon if I go another week...which I think I most likely will.
On Day 124, day 77 days since the switch to 12-12, since the switch to flower and a 12-12 light scheduled. She is done! She is chunky and smelly and beat up by the fans. Breeder says 60 days, I took her 77 and I'm still not seeing amber trichomes but all other evidence suggests she is done. All her hairs are orange. I'm not sure, but it could be that CBD is different from THC when it comes do doneness too. Anyway, this will be my last update other than the harvest.
