Growing lately hasn't been fun, I've had several grows go totally to shit and it sapped my passion. So I'm just gonna cut loose and have fun and hopefully the joy will return. ROUND 1: Sir Butt-Stuff versus Lady Sparkle Bottom; the cannabis shenanigans. SAMSQUANCH OG: Yeti og X 3 Bears og. Approximate time 10 weeks from seed. Germinated using the paper towel method. Seeds sprouted in about 3 days and were planted into small solo sized cups of Fox Farm Ocean soil with a dash of Mykos. They broke soil pretty quicky and reached an inch and a half by day 7. One seedling had its shell left clinging on which was great for photos but it's fleshy inside sure looks sickly and unhealthy compared to the other seedling. Wishing myself good luck with this grow as my previous have been chaotic and awful. Gonna try and get back to basics.✌️

Week 2: This week has been very interesting, watching the differences of the two seedlings. Both seeds are the same age, but with the one having the shell left on is maturing significantly slower. That plant not only is smaller, but looks less healthy, has an odd spot where the shell had been, and just generally looks weaker. Both plants will stay in the small cups until roots are established and they both have plastic cups on top to maintain a high humidity.... the 15-30% in my region is not nearly enough. Will continue to watch for progress from the shell plant. ✌️

Wow! It's amazing how just a tiny shell left on a seed can cause it to slow down this much! Lady Sparkle Butt has weird stuff still clung to her cotyledon and is just sad compared to the green, flourishing Sir Butt-Stuff. Hopefully she'll pull through it here in the next couple weeks. Currently just keeping the humidity high, nutrients at zero and plain ph'd water. They're happy with the CFL bulbs and we'll change that up as they grow up.✌️

Good and bad week...depends on which plant. Sir Butt-Stuff is taking off wonderfully, and Lady Sparkle Bottom is uh, yikes! This last week I had been letting the plants catch a little sunlight in the window on a shelf....and whoops, Lady S.B had a small cup tipping, it disturbed her soil and surely made her very uncomfortable. I smoothed the soil and hope she'll just keep moving forward. Nutrients still at zero, humidity still high, and I've started to give them at least a couple hours of led light each day. Lady S.B had already been stunted by the seed cling, and that bums me out as i had been waiting a long time for a seed to sprout with its shell still on. This is my 1st one and it caused a lot of damage which is sad. But eh i got some good photos of it so totally worth it!💚

I'm happy. Sir Butt-Stuff is growing beautifully and lady sparkle bottom has even made a decent comeback. Given her slow down from the shell and then the small tipping incident that jostled her soil, that's an amazing thing. Sir Butt-Stuff is ready for a transplant and i decided on a 5 gallon fabric pot to see if it could handle it. The bigger the pot the happier the plant? Maybe... Still only ph water, will begin nutrients after a week or 2 when the ocean forest soil slows down.

What an exciting week! So much happening. Transplants, pistils, clumsy fingers that pluck off leaves, and transition into LEDs. All in all a wonderful week. Sir Butt-Stuff is still clearly winning....However Lady Sparkle bottom has made a miraculous recovery given her stunted seed cling on and being slightly dropped as a baby she's great. A bit of an odd growth popping out of her bottom but maybe she halfway split herself out of stress. Sir B.S is having the first week under the led lights and I'm watching closely for changes in leaf color. My recent grows have been nothing short of disastrous with discolored leaves...is it nutrients, lighting, disease!? Who knows I'm leaning towards cal-mag problem or faulty LEDs. So the next couple weeks will help discover the problem. Happy growing Go Team Sparkle Bottom!

An important week. Neither good or bad. Sir Butt-Stuff had the first week of only LEDs, prior to his test he was perfectly healthy and green. Now there are a couple older, lower and direct light leaves with a shiny, rusty, spotty quality to them. I want to blame the LEDs. However in a recent conversation with a local master grower at a cultivation facility, he mentioned that some LEDs have a tendency to make the plants require higher feedings in calcium, magnesium, and potassium. This isn't the first time I've heard this and I know I have been using low doses of cal/mag thinking my water contained enough. So I'm going to start raising my calmag up to 1 tsp every feeding and see if the problem continues to progress. If it slows then i know i need to practice a more strict and frequent feeding schedule. As for the week all together it's been good. Sir Butt-Stuff is flowering nicely, and lady sparkle bottom seems to have reset her clock backwards with the various setbacks and is about a 2 weeks behind Sir B-S. She's very healthy and green and we'll just try keeping them as happy as possible. Happy growing everyone and happy harvest season to the northern outdoor community. ✌️

Great week so far. Sir Butt-Stuff is coming right along with flowering, many beautiful bud sites, pistils starting to swell, and the flowering boost of growth has slowed and stopped at about 19 inches tall. Lady Sparkle Bottom is still in a very nice healthy, green, vegetative state. She still seems to be roughly 2 weeks behind Sir Butt-Stuff. I haven't found any discolored leaves on her and she's been under the LEDs so I think I've finally found the solution to my problems. I used to believe that using a calmag supplement wasn't important because of using tap water, but after many damaged plants and now with my recent regular application of calmag all of my unusual leaf troubles have slowed or stopped. So from now on I will continue to make calmag a part of my regular feeding program anytime I'm using LEDs or notice those strange leaf colors. Cheers to solving problems. Happy Growing Everyone. ✌️

Plants never stop amazing me. The amount they can change in just a week is incredible! Lady Sparkle Bottom has gotten her first pistils... and wow are they long or is it just me? She got her first about 26 days later than Sir Butt-Stuff which is crazy to me how 2 identical same aged seeds could turn out so far from eachother. She's roughly 14 inches tall right now so i expect she'll show us a nice boost of growth over the next week + and will be completely different in 7 days. Come on team Sparkle we're only 4 inches behind! Sir Butt-Stuff has gotten a fair bit of trichromes showing up now so I think it's fair to say his vertical growth is over and now he'll just pack on some weight and sparkle. I went through and defoliated both plants of any teeny buds or branches or useless leaves. Ive had a bad habit of putting that off until way too late so hopefully they'll respond well to the early removal. Sir B.S is already full on flower so maybe it won't help him as much as Lady. Well cheers to another fairly successful week. It's nice having the plants still looking this good this far in..hopefully I've broken my losing streak.✌️

Whooo! What an exciting week! To see Lady Sparkle Bottom make such a nice comeback in growth like this has been great. Shes tied up with Sir Butt-Stuff at 19 inches at the moment. Now if she can just build some buds I'll feel much more confident that she did restart her internal clock but that it hasn't actually stunted her, just cost more time. Sir Butt-Stuff has a beautiful amount of sparkle to every part of the now. I removed the majority of large leaves so now even many of the small leaves have a nice coating of trichromes. The buds to me almost seem to have a white quality about them but I'm sure the green will shine through more once trimmed. Mephisto has this plant projected to take 70-75 days from seed, which would be around 10-11 weeks. Right now were roughly at 68 days from seed. I'll start peeking at Sir Butt-Stuffs trichromes and watch for any color changes from the clear sparkly stage now. I haven't figured out how to judge the winner of these shenanigans yet... time? Height? Weight? Bud quality? I'm open to suggestions. Happy growing all.✌️

How should I judge this plant competition? First to finish? Weight? Both plants are same strain and started at the same time. Open to multiple category judgement. Thanks

It depende on what your priorities are: yield? Quality of the smoke? Harsh / smooth? Effect? Perhaps a point system on a diferentes categories?

What an exciting week for Sir Butt-Stuff, trichromes are looking beautiful and fully covering the buds. My only trouble is deciding when to chop... I'm not the best judge of trichrome color. I tried some different light settings to get some clear shots and it seems like they're still pretty clear, although bulbous tops are there. I see some amber spots but they're mostly on outer sugar leaves so I don't think I should go off those. Either way I've started reducing feedings to minimal or none on Sir B.S. Lady Sparkle Bottom is doing good, she's gotten much taller than Sir B.S. so she's the winner of height and width category, but the loser of who finishes first. Her buds are growing but at a very slow pace it seems. From the 1st to the 5th I noticed very little difference in her top cola. I hope she's just slow and she's not defective from her previous set backs. I noticed a few of her uppermost leaves had some burn look to them so i raised the light up as high as it can go and moved the plants around so it isn't getting blasted to close by the led. Happy growing everyone. Go Team Sparkle Bottom!

Dear Grow Diaries Community, I regret to inform you that Sir Butt-Stuff is now dead. We should not feel saddened by the loss of another beautiful plant, but rejoice in his transformation into a lovely jar of extremely sticky buds. He had a wonderful life of 77 days and brought much joy to my growing experiences. RIP Sir Butt-Stuff Lady Sparkle Bottom is still alive and well but in mourning for the loss of her comrade. Their harvest will be posted once she too meets her end.

A good week for Lady Sparkle Bottom. This plant has really amazed me. I would have expected an autoflower that had so much disruption and damage done at a young age to have ended up stunted or died; instead she just restarted her internal clock and managed to pull through and be the bigger of the 2 plants! Of course her time frame is going to be much longer than the typical Samsquanch, but it doesn't seem to have ruined her buds in any way. Lady Sparkle Bottom is continuing to pack on weight, sparkly trichromes and her pistils are slowly discoloring and starting to curl. I previously thought she was about 2 weeks behind Sir Butt-Stuff in development, and she's matching up to his look at about 3.5 weeks before his chop. So hopefully that means she'll be ready to go here in the next 2-3 weeks. Happy Growing!

A learning week. "Bud Boosters, Bulking, and Sweeteners." What goes in all these fancy bottles? I started wondering about these products and looking into their ingredients/ msds sheets and the majority of them are pretty similar. You know the ones... "b*g b#d, ch* ch*ng, honey Ch*me, B*d Can#y, etc. 😊 From what I can gather some have crazy high PK, but most are some variation of Magnesium, sulfur, sucrose(molasses, cane sugar, agave), "secret ingredients ", low npk's, vitamin/acids. Since I probably have anywhere from 10-30 different products on my shelf and didn't want to buy more, I decided to try to just make my own variation of a bud finishing product using molasses, magnesium/ sulfur and humic acids plus. I'm hoping it's been effective but should probably try a side by side test in the future. Lady Sparkle is definitely on her way to be finished. She's gotten nice and big and her buds smell great, full of trichromes changing colors and many discolored curly pistils. I think I'll start slowly removing products over this week and roll into a small cycle of plain waterings. Next week will still be right on schedule for her finishing in "about 3 weeks" Go Team Sparkle Bottom!

Wow week 15 seriously? If I was to go to the beginning of this grow I never would have imagined that it'd have come this far. I'm so lucky that Lady Sparkle Bottom was able to continue on rather than just wind up another runt. The ability of living things to persevere never stops amazing me. Lady Sparkle Bottom continues through to the end...she's packed on weight, beautiful trichromes and now is wonderfully smelly and sticky just like her BFF Sir Butt-Stuff. I had been giving he my own concoctions of bud bulking sweeteners, but for the last 2 waterings and the next few she'll just get plain ph'ed water. I looked at her trichromes with my magnifier and i think we're in a perfect milky zone, i didn't see many amber, but possibly some will show over the next 4 days. I'm planning to give her the cut this coming weekend and then I'll know which of the 2 plants was the heaviest. Thanks to everyone who's followed the journey and given me advice on how to judge, and encouragement. This has been a very fun grow for me. 😁 Happy Growing. GO TEAM SPARKLE BOTTOM!

This grow was dedicated simply to getting the joy back in to growing. With all my recent failures Mephisto was the perfect breeder to help me get the fun back. I've rarely had one of their strains go wrong and the Samsquanch exceeded my expectations. Both plants made it to the finish with minimal problems, no bugs/disease/or awful leaf troubles and the 2nd plant actually managed to reset her internal clock after a fall and be the bigger of the two. Both plants produced gorgeous bright green buds covered with sparkle and beautiful orange hairs, classic OG identifiers with the Samsquanch. The most dominant smell I could identify was an earthy pepper, and my friends say it tastes flowery. If you wanted an OG strain to make concentrates with, this ones perfect as almost every piece of the plant was covered in trichromes. Sir Butt-Stuff made it 77 days to harvest, had 12 grams of smokeable buds, has great color/trichromes/orange hairs, but he ended up drying a touch more than I'd like and has a slightly earthy hay smell; but his smoke is still as calm and enjoyable as Lady S.B. Lady Sparkle Bottom was 107 days to harvest, she has 29.4 grams of smokeable buds, she has the most insane smell of pepper and I thought I was crazy until a few friends confirmed it. She has an amazing bright green color, covered in trichromes and bright orange hairs everywhere and is very sticky. I declare Lady Sparkle Bottom the winner of this round as she was the heaviest, tallest and the oldest. She also had cleaner more odorous buds, and a perfect mellow munchie high. Thank you Sir Butt-Stuff for being part of my Shenanigan Showdown and making it so much more fun. Better luck next time!👅💚 GO TEAM SPARKLE BOTTOM!
