So here we go again folks, another run of one of my favorite strains.
This time I have vegged these three girls under one 136W full spectrum LED. My intention for these girls is to flower them under a 225W COB lighting fixture by Rapid LED. I'll post the link to the kit below.
http://www.rapidled.com/cxb3590-2-x-2-grow-kit/
I am currently waiting on the reflectors for the light to arrive so that I can begin flowering on these plants. Until then I'm going to weave them through my custom SCROG net and train them to make a nice and full canopy for flowering. I'm going to compare the COB lights to my last grow of Quantum Kush to see if these lights yield more than the 408 watts I used to try and grow them last time. I'm really excited to see how well this endeavor turns out. I've tested the light a bit to see how bright it is and let me say that it's blinding. I can't wait for this run to start flowering so enjoy. Sorry for not documenting the earlier weeks but these weren't the prettiest plants as I just kept them around to ultimately be moms. They got a little to big for me to want to keep them around but I decided it'd be better to test a new flowering light than let them go to waste. I hope you all enjoy :D
THE COBS ARE INSTALLED!!!!
These plants absolutely love them. They've grown three inches in just a week from the cobs and look as though they are flourishing under this light. I'm ecstatic to see how they flower under this light. I'm not trying to get my expectations too high but I think they'll be doing fantastic things!
Heres a link to the cob kit I bought:
http://www.rapidled.com/cxb3590-2-x-2-grow-kit/
These are the 3000K 225 watt version of the light. This version is specifically for flowering but can be used as a dual purpose but it'd have less effective results vegging considering that vegging plants love blue light spectrums, not red. I'd highly recommend this fixture to everyone who's been looking into building COB's as it's probably the easiest kit to build. No soldering for the entire kit is a huge plus and honestly what I feel like deters a lot of people from DIY lights. I hope you all enjoy this weeks growth and stay tuned in for more developments with this grow. I'm hoping for a nice yield from this so wish me luck!
These beautiful and lovely girls have been switched over to flower!!!!!
I've added their flowering nutrient to their regiment and I've kept their nutrient regiment exactly the same as my other Quantum Kush grow to make sure the comparison between the two for the light is relatively fair. I've defoliated them quite a bit this past week to make sure the lower canopy is trimmed up so there are no areas that aren't receiving light as well as trimmed a bunch of the larger leaves out of the canopy to make sure none of the freshly flowering nodes are blocked from the lighting. I hope you all enjoy my photos for this week and I am excited to see these girls start showing their flowering nodes within the next week. Enjoy.
Ohhhh how I love this strain. She behaves the same every time I grow her :D
She hasn't started smelling too much yet but I'm sure I'll wake up one morning to her wreaking up the whole grow space. They are starting to shoot out their pistols to begin forming her calyx nodes. Not much to really report or look at this early in flower. This strain starts ramping up her flowering production in the fourth and fifth weeks of flower before slowing down to build density in her buds. I'm enjoying the results of this light never-the-less. Enjoy some fun pictures :D
Cheers!
Week three of flower and they are all looking gorgeous!!!!!!
I'm in love with this strain, she's probably my favorite to grow of anything I've grown over he last few years. Nothing like good strong and stable genetics to populate your garden with! You can see they are really starting to extend their pistols out and bulk up for some nice buds. She Doesn't make big buds but she makes beautiful tight dense buds so that's why she's got so many tops. I hope you enjoy the pictures :D
Cheers!
They are all plumping up so nicely. There is light trichome production on the sugar leaves per usual with this strain. She's a little under halfway done flowering now and I'm just in love with her as I am every time I grow this strain. For now it's just a game of selectively trimming leaves as they begin to get too large and block some of the smaller nodes from the light. She's looking to be a perfectly trained canopy as I was hoping to achieve and this COB light is putting in some serious work flowering these girls. I'm hopeful for some good yields from this tent but I don't want to jinx it just yet. Soon the pistols will begin to turn into resin sacks and the buds will really being to plump up. Until then it's just pretty pictures and waiting for them to start stinking up the whole room they are in. Cheers!
I shall dub this week the plumpening. All the buds have been thickening up very nicely this week. Their Aroma is beginning to become overwhelming as they slow down packing on mass in this next week and begin to start producing terpenes and THC. All the buds are beginning to frost up in the most amazing way and I'm absolutely loving them right now. They officially reached the halfway point through flowering in the first few days of this week. That means less than 4 weeks left until these bad girls are ready for harvest. I'm so excited to see how they turn out this time around. I hope you all enjoy the lovely photos this week and stick around for next week. Cheers!
Added some Terpinator to this week as I was noticing a little bit of a sulfur deficiency only displaying on the top few leaves. Terpinators main ingredient is Potash Sulfate so this added sulfates should correct the issue. The plants will be fed once in the next week and then they will begin flushing. I must say these COB's have put in quite a lot of work for being only 225W at the wall. I'd say their actual light output is probably around 200W for the lighting and 25 watts for the driver. They do some serious work and I'd say they are very comparable to the 408 watts of Viparspectra that I used in my last grow of Quantum Kush. I'm a little disappointed in the fact that I forgot to monitor my sulfur for the plants but it shouldn't be too much of an issue hopefully. One things get back on track I'm sure it won't matter too much but never the less I'm disappointed. There will be a major reformation of my nutrient regiment the next time I flower to include a few more things and tweak my ratios. Until them we'll just correct the little issue I had and be merry. Cheers everyone.
Well these gorgeous girls received their last feeding and are now in full flush. They are looking pretty beautiful and sparkly if I do say so myself. They should be ready to harvest in between day 56 of flower and day 63 of flower. I'm thinking these girls should be ready to come down right at the day 56 - 57 mark as their trichomes are getting quite cloudy so far. The second I see and amber trichome I'm going to harvest these girls at their most potent THC level before the THC starts degrading into CBN and other fun stuff. I'm excited to have another round of this strain finishing up soon and I can't wait to see what my yield is from this new light. Wish me luck everyone and enjoy the fun pictures :D
These girls are almost done. All of them will be harvested in the next 1 - 3 days. As you can see the middle girl is almost completely done with her flushing while the other two on both sides have just started to have their leaves turn yellow. I suspect they will be fully/mostly flushed by day 58. I have to say I really loved how much work this Cree Cob put out. It's an absolute killer of a light at 225 watts. I'm hoping for .8 - .9 grams per watt. Only the scales will tell though once the drying process is complete. I'm excited to get these girls all trimmed up and ready for smoking. Should be about 14 or more days after I harvest them for me to post my next update. I really hope you enjoyed this COB grow because I know I did. Wish me luck on the harvest everyone. Cheers!
Such a fantastic and frosty strain. Theres a reason why I've kept this strain around in my garden for almost two years now. She's absolutely amazing. She has a very lovable sweet smell with a robust and potent high. She's everything you'd want and more from a potent monster such as herself. 3 thumbs up in my opinion. I love this strain to death and I'll be even more excited the next time I harvest it.
DISCLAIMER: 3 plants were harvested in this diary under 225 watts of lighting from one 225 watt Cree Cob LED. Because grow diaries algorithms are incorrect for some reason the website lists the grams per watt incorrectly because it divides the number of grams/watt by the number of plants. In this case it causes my grams per watts to be 3 times lower than what it actually was so I have listed the wattage as 3 times less then it actually was. I apologize if this causes anyone any confusion but It's the only way to have my overall account information to be correct in my profile.
Just wow. I couldn't be more happy. 226.8 grams. I officially achieved 1 gram per watt. I must first start by saying that it's probably all the light. This thing is absolutely amazing. I've seen several growers online post verified yields of 1.5 grams per watt of COBs and some even higher unverified claims. I still have much to learn and improve on to get to those kind of numbers but I'm definitely thrilled with my harvest here. This strain is one of my favorites and I'm happy to have gotten a decent yield from her this time around.
I must say the I will only be building my own COB LEDs from now on in the future. These things do some serious work and I'm thrilled to see what they can really achieve with their awesomeness. I hope everyone enjoyed following along for this grow. I'm blown away by how much difference the COBs make. I'll be excited to try more grows with them. Thanks for stopping by.
@DabCrab,good luck with that look forward to seeing you go to work on them it will be good to follow I’m off to bed good night and god bless and piece and weed
@@Tryhard, Thanks buddy. I can't wait till these reflectors get here so I can finally flower them. I think I'll just veg them for another week and then defoliate everything below my SCROG while I wait. Until then buddy :D
@DeepRoot3d, Thanks buddy. I'm training a few more just like them right now. I'll be doing a few things different with the nutrients next time but otherwise it'll be the same old training. Hopefully with more tops next time. Cheers buddy :D
@Tonino, Thanks buddy. I think so too. She's pretty much done with her stretching so it looks like she's gonna start becoming a fat forest in the next few weeks :D
@DabCrab,cheers for the info I will have a better chance if I do come across it now I have an idea of what to look for can understand why people mistake it for a n or mg deficiency with the yellowing and purple streaks
@biggreens420, So she has a few very small purple streaks on the stem to some lower leaves and a slight tiny amount of yellowing starting at the very top of the plant. It gets mistaken for a nitrogen or manganese deficiency most of the time. As I know my ratios of nitrogen and manganese are perfect it can only be the sulfur issue. It could actually be zinc but my zinc numbers are also on point. The only thing I have thats actually low is the sulfur content. It's kinda one of those things that you have to looks for what it's not instead of what it is. So many problems look so similar that there is no way to really diagnose them unless you look at the overall mineral content in each individual nutrient in depth. There are some really good charts out there to help but the only way to diagnose a problem is too look at the nutrients and then look at pictures for comparison. There are some good charts out there about what problems looks like. You'll notice any one thing could be a completely other thing.
Very nice Diaries I do have a couple questions. Would you say the density is equal to that of your HPS? And if I may ask what lights are you using brand-wise?
@Floresdejesus, I'm happy I could help at least attempt to clarify a few things. HPS does great work in regards to growing plants. I use T5's myself for a small veg tent I have. It's nice to keep things simple and efficient. No need to pump 1000's of watts into a few seedlings when they aren't capable of using it. I believe the studies show that until the plants get some serious height they aren't really capable of using more than 25 - 35 Umol per day. Whatever you use to do your growing needs all that really matters is that you follow the respected science in regards to what the plants want and need. Which means a good PPFD and VPD.
@DabCrab, thanks for the insight. he did leave me a bit confused. But thanks for the clarification. I personally use led to start from seed they work great for seedling stage. Then t5 for teens then hps with the led as a side dressing.
@Floresdejesus, You might want to ignore this troll. He measures light efficacy in LUX😂. He has some points but they aren't justified in science. How effective a light is at producing buds size and density has everything to do with the PPFD of PAR spectrum the plant receives. More specifically how effective the light is at generating an even PPFD over a specific distance. HPS is effective at generating PPFD over a great distance. Sometimes in excess of 2 feet or more. Cobs are more efficient at generating PPFD per watt but the distance at which they are consistent with that distribution of PPFD is only 1 foot... sometimes 18 inches. It's all about how you are growing and what you intend to do. If you want a big full canopy with multiple tops making light penetration impossible to the lower lollipops areas you'd want to use COBs or LED to achieve your results. If you want to grow a tall monster and have buds growing all over the plant including the lower branches then you'd probably want to use HPS. It's all about purpose and use. HPS is less efficient but has great results. COBs are very efficient but only work as intended if you grow your canopy/plants a certain way. It's all about preference. It's a scientific method of course.
@biggreens420, Yup. I've grown her quite a few times now and she always seems to be ready on day 56 - 58. I've had some finish earlier though but thats because I did the 48 hours of darkness before starting flowering and then 48 hours at the end of flowering... though that would mean she still finished around day 56 - 58. lol. Cheers buddy :D
@@frags, There are three Quantum Kush plants in this closet. They are all trained through scrog netting to make an even canopy. The canopy could use a little work next time around but I think they turned out nicely this time.
@ProfoundWeedium, No kidding buddy? I guess that mean we will have to be rivals 😈
In all honesty though I hope people take exactly what I do and make it better for themselves and exceed what I've done. Thats what helping out the community should be all about :D
@DabCrab, after I commented I realized we have the same grow space/tent dimensions...so you set the bar high. I think my third round will compete though. Fingers crossed. Happy growing.
@ProfoundWeedium, Lol, thanks buddy. It's an immensely small space that I have everything packed into. I fell I must try to perfect a half meter squared before I go for a full meter squared. I want to make sure I can yield what I want from an area before I move upward. Thanks for the compliment again :D
@Tistou, I actually just moved them in and out of the tent today for flushing...... they did not feel like going back into place so expect them to not be so perfect looking the next time you see then ;)
Well said. Same science has proven it why try to reinvent the wheel. Although i do use a LED to sprout. I have done the side ny side strains and the LED does have its advantages in the infancy stage imo. Its all debatable thats why we have joints an beers to discuss!
@Floresdejesus, Indeed. LED's are advancing so it's difficult to gauge them all as one thing. Each product varies differently these days so all of them are up in the air for what really works and what doesn't.
Oh man this grow was fantastic. I’ve heard Great things about COB LED. Seeing how they performed on your grow it’s a no-brainer that I need to invest in these eventually. Awesome Grow man.
