They just keep getting bigger and more beautiful, so excited this first grow is coming out so well! Hopefully I don’t ruin it in curing!

The pistils are starting to turn amber, how far do I want them to go before harvesting? Also there seems to be no color in this Durban is this not normally a colorful strain?

Hello my friend The best way to judge the maturity of plants is to look at the resin glands, also called trichomes. Using a microscope ideally with 100x magnification, you can easily determine the condition of the resin glands and avoid having to guess. Trichomes go through 3 different stages: 1. TRANSPARENT Transparent trichomes only contain precursor cannabinoids that are not psychoactive. Harvesting at this stage will not give you a very powerful product 2. MILKY Milky resin glands contain fully ripe THC. To get buds as powerful as possible, you need to get as close as possible to 100% milky trichomes. Note that it is impossible to obtain 100% milky trichomes, as new resin glands are continuously produced. Likewise, even after harvest, the trichomes will continue to develop. 3. AMBER Amber colored resin glands are a sign that THC has been converted to CBN, a degraded form of THC. This means that your product has lost much of its potency. CBN is not desirable in any crop, as its effects are more narcotic than a true elevation Me personally I like harvested ais around 15 to 30% amber but that is just a preference 😉 Good luck for your grow bro 👍 may the force be with you 💪

Looking good, mate!

Looking good but i reckon you've got a lot more than 2 weeks to harvest. I wouldn't stress too much about the leaf tip burn.

@Manakin, I feel your pain 😓

@dianne, yea I would rather flower longer but I am moving long distance, and will. Red three weeks to dry and cure ☹️

Hello, i was wondering when did you set your lights to full power? i'm 11days in, dimmed all the way and wondering when to up the power ;)
Manakin
Manakincommented5 years ago
@Gi773s, what type of light do you have? You can get away with full power light as long as it’s far enough away from the canopy. I would go full power 24” away from plant and if you have any light burn raise the light.

Had this same issue with my original auto Russian, gave her a flush and she started perking back up after a few days.

@Mr_Weeds_Autos, turns out she was an auto I had no idea the seed was from a bag! She has perked up and I got a bigger tent

I have experienced leaf tips turning yellow (as opposed to burn) from being too close to a light source. Might be worth a check if you haven't already done so.

Beautiful looking canopy buds :) ... looks like at least 2 more weeks to go from the photos. I find preparation helps make a harvest much more enjoyable.. it's all a learning curve - you'll nail it.
HazeyBobby
HazeyBobbycommented5 years ago
@Manakin, just remember that these are just techniques which may or may not eventuate... there is no magic switch to make ripening faster :) Good luck mate...
Manakin
Manakincommented5 years ago
@HazeyBobby,thanks I’ll look into that I didn’t know that was an option!
HazeyBobby
HazeyBobbycommented5 years ago
@Manakin, you may want to look into the various methods for speeding up the ripening. Like reducing lights hours, or using something like GHE Ripen which I had to do for the same forced harvesting reasons :)

@skylinebuds, the lights seem to be helping, still seems a bit slow going but I have to be patient. Is a 3x3

Great grow so far! Just keep an eye on the tips and lower your EC is over fertilization symptoms start spreading. Most of the time the plants adjust to a higher EC over a week or so.
