Week 1 update - rough entry for this little girl and the seed wasn’t able to shed under the coco. Had to do some emergency surgery to help ‘er along and she tore one of her cotyledons on the way out. Despite this, she’s up and fully popped now - early signs are that she’ll be a strong grower👍😎. Gonna likely scrog this one out through the whole cabinet footprint if shes fit for it. Thanks for take’n a look👊

For those not in the know, SSSC has been around for 40 years. Out of Amsterdam, they are the 2nd such breeder to market their genetics worldwide and can lay claim to the origins of their beans better than most (if not all) others.
They’ve produced here an indica hybrid cross of M33/Friesland Indica with an elite clone of Lava Cake. We’re hoping to encounter one of the purple phenos but only time will tell. She’s supposed to be super strong too and not for the faint of heart 👍.
We’ve been wait’n on this grow awhile and she’ll be getting individual treatment in the small cab - 5gal. Coco w/perlite and the typical nute regimen. SCROG method if she’s got the bush for it. Advance props to these guys for the best packaging I’ve ever seen (although you may need to be an 80’s baby or older to truly appreciate it😉). See week 1 photos.
Week 2 update - done with the organic boom boom spray and pitched er in the trash today. After a couple days in water it starts to smell like rank shit so we’re back to a light foliar spray of karma. Also began incorporating the Terpinator.
She’s up, drink’n and the 2nd set of leaves is make’n it’s way out now. Alls well and look’n good peeps👍😎.

Week 3 update - alls proceeding well and as expected. Cut out the foliar spray this week and ever so slightly jumped the nute mix to accommodate growth. Had a question on watering practices at this stage from a fellow grower so added some pre and post pics of that too. I tend to let the medium dry out substantially before each feed and contrary to what most seem to do - I don’t saturate the medium to run off at this point. Essentially trying to replicate intermittent rain periods to keep ‘er hungry for more and trying to keep those roots expanding outwards. She’s getting about 1L every other day or so.
If all goes well, we hope to be topping some time this week once the third node is out and we have a place to snip ‘er. Stay tuned for the prune👍.
Jan 30 update - always super impressed with how much growth advances once this plant gets its roots under it. She’s popp’n out the 4th growth node now and will def. be topping this week. Stay tuned🤘
Feb 3 update - gave ‘er the snip today and left the additional 2 growth tips on the 2nd node. Now we wait and bend until the screen goes down. She’s look’n good - topped real early, but still lookn good👍.
Feb 4 update - she visibly grew larger overnight, even post-topping. This is gonna be a strong plant👍.

Week 4 update - at this rate of growth, I expect those big solar panel fan leaves to run out the four mains coming off the stalk pretty quick. We’ll pin em down as the 4 primaries for what’s gonna be the the scrog base. If we can start bending er by the end of this week I’d be really happy. No complaints however, she recovered from the topping like it weren’t no thang😎. Upped the feed mix as well as volume per feed. Alls well on the wait friends.👍
Feb. 9 update - just started on the LST. Starting to run each of the 4 mains out, away and even in height with each other - prepping for next topping. She’s doing terrific and couldn’t ask for better👍.

Week 5 update - she’s really start’n to blow up now and growth is rapid. Adjusting the ties daily as we spread out the 4 mains to the corners. She’s lookn great and if we can get to the next topping round this week then there’s a chance we flip to flower by end of week 6🤞. The only thing that could really screw the pooch on this is that we’ve lost half the spectrum on the grow light. After roughly 3 straight years of use she’s finally lost the entire veg. Setting...😬😬😬.
Feb 15 update - after some deliberation with a few we’ll known GD mainstays, we ended up pulling the trigger on a 100w quantum board from spider farmer. Essentially the same tech. As HLG or most of the other Brands using higher quality components. Budget and delivery timing were the key concerns here as it was an unplanned purchase. Well see how it stacks up I guess given that the rated power is actually 100w lower than the previous blurple fixture. Super happy with the new white light though - photos and colours are finally gonna do this girl some justice👍.
Feb. 17 update - yeah she loves the new light. Pruned out some of the huge fans today to open up the middle and get some more light to the new tips. The lower branches were also ready to be topped as well. Should be good for the final topping of the 2 mains by tomorrow. We’ll see how well she takes to it over the course of week 6 and then decide where we’ll pick our spot to lay down the net and launch flower👍😎. I could not be happier with this grow right now🤘.

Week 6 update - this exactly what good genetics look like👍. She’s in great shape, strong, lush and healthy. Took a little longer to get the last topping in on the 2 mains but it’s done and now we’re waiting on er to spread out some more before we launch into flower. It would be awesome to get the net down end of this week but no telling just yet. Trimmed out some lower growth sites that likely wouldn’t make it to the canopy - hopefully that drives some faster growth to the new tops. All is well friends🤘😎.

Week 7 update - this girl is a beast! She leafed out heavy in the last week and after the stretch we should fill the whole space sooooo... time to flip ‘er into transition and get the net down👍. Next 3 weeks will be tucking and tying off outwards, then we’ll supercrop the big boy colas back towards the middle. All proceeding as planned and well ahead of the anticipated schedule😎🤘.

Week 8 update - 2nd week of the stretch and she’s behaving exactly as we’d hoped, push’s out full inches each day. As per the day-by-day photos from last week; it’s a daily chore of constant tucking and tying to get the stems tracking outwards while they’re still pliable. She’s likely gonna need a good prune this week as well. Just to maintain some more exposure to the less developed secondaries which are now starting to run out behind the main growth tips. We fall squarely in between the detractors and proponents of defoliation. You need the leaves to advance growth but you also need to free up the less developed tips to get max light and stretch to the net. The hope is that she’s still got a ton of stretch in ‘er for the next 2 weeks of transition. There’s still ample space around the perimeter so ideally she’s full by week 10 for the flower show🤞🤞🤞. All’s still extremely well in here. I can’t wait to see how this ones gonna turn out.
Mar. 6 update - this is the formative part of the grow that’s the most interesting - trying to get a sense of what’s expected to stretch up and ultimately become the bud bed that we’re look’n for. Chopped out a ton of foliage today and I hate do’n it but it was necessary. Even if it was only to see where the ties were - it was so bloody dense for just a couple node layers of fans. Good thing is that we found multiple potential secondaries around the middle. Well see where she ends up through this week and look to drop back on the pruning to straight maintenance after week 9/10. Until then it’s constant daily tucking and tying and where necessary, pruning or defoliating for more even exposure.

Week 9 update - Last week of the stretch and pretty much the same as last week. She’s a constant chore of tucking, tying and pruning. But little budlets are expected any day now and I’d be happy with a good bit more stretch if she has the legs. Some of the lower tips have stretched up beyond the net now so alls going according to plan👍. Dropped out the grow nutes this week and we’re full on bloom base and enhancers from here on out🤘. Thanks for checkn er out y’all.👊
Mar. 14 update - she officially started show’n off the first budlets today. Perfect timing this plants got👍. Lower shoots are still moving up into the net and she’s lookn extremely good🤘.

Week 10 update - well good god daaaaaaaam, this chicks got some legs on ‘er! I asked for a little more stretch and def. got it the past week. The budlets started hairing out right on sched. And we should be mostly finished with the tweaking by the end of this week. The secondaries in the middle are now starting to create a lower bed of bud while the outer rim with all the mains is making the canopy look like a miniature Roman colloseum😎.
She’s already pretty airy and very sativa-like in branch structure so we’re being careful not to clip out too much foliage. While we would’ve preferred a little more uniformity with the bed, I’m never gonna complain about having to supercrop here and there. The purpose is 3-fold, maintain some height consistency, create more light availability for the internodal buds not at the top of the branch, and apply a little bit of stress to promote more robust growth. As per the photos this wasn’t done with all the taller branches, we simply lst’d others where space allowed. The goal is to minimize (but not entirely eliminate) stress and maintain airflow with pruning. So far so good and she’s fix’n to be an all-timer👍.

Week 11 update - the stretch is finally at its end as she starts to bulk out them flowers and the distinct scent of ganja is in the air😎. We’re now getting the first signs of frost and the entire footprint is wall to wall shrubbery. We left one outer cola un-bent for the sake of photos and to see how much the bud structure fills in. This plant is proving perfect for a SCROG too, fairly large internodal spacing gives each bud site lots of room to grow out while the branches that were HST’d should provide for some extra bulky buds once the cycle is finished. Exactly why HST is An awesome training method - similar benefits (on a single branch basis) to topping or fimming without the same amount of stress. No recovery time, similar to LST. So far, she’s still going perfectly to plan👌. Nute sched. stays mostly the same this week save a light dose of hydroplex flowering additive. Here’s hoping for a strong finish🤞🤞🤞.

Week 12 update - coming in to flower week 6 and bud maturation is now evident. A couple of the hairs have started browning out and she’s really starting to stack and frost👍. The smell is pungent, skunky and like a slap in face every time you open the cabinet🤘. At this point I gotta think another 3-4 weeks at a minimum. She’s got much more flowering to do for sure👌. No changes to the feed schedule, only some minor, light pruning where needed. We’re smooth sailing to the finish from here on out.

Week 13 update - week 7 of flower and she’s really starting to come around now. Still gonna take some time for sure and she’ll push out a lot more the next couple weeks. Frost is coming in nicely as the buds stack up. Smell is unreal skunky. The sugar leaves are starting to wrinkle a little and the leaves have a deep green hue. She’s light and airy - more sativa in structure than I’d expect. Nute sched. Will be about the same to the finish I think. Alls extremely well in here👍.
April 13 update - yeah upon review and after some helpful heads up from the community - come to the understanding that she’s been locking out for the last few days now. Prob. About 10 days or so by the looks of it - guess the brain has been elsewhere lately given recent events. Hit er with a 10L flush today to try and wash out some of the lingering solids and what nutes we could that are in the medium. We’re pretty late in flower at this point based on the Breeders suggestion so we really weren’t far off from a flush anyway - it’ll just be slightly longer of one by the looks of it. Well see what happens and hopefully she turns around a bit before she starts to turn over on the fade. She definitely had this come’n after our additional nute foray. Alls still good yall🤞🤙😎

Week 14 update - I am so insanely angry with myself! Whatever the reason - too much focus on the hydro grows, too much distraction at work or just too much of this Covid bullshit has a grower not stay’n on point.
As can be seen by the last couple weeks of photos - this girl has been locking out real bad. What I thought originally was just minor light burn or something has turned into a fairly serious issue. It’s a massive lockout representing somewhat like a toxicity issue. Checked back in my weeks and realized that I (a) never ran a mid-cycle flush and (b) haven’t been watering to a decent runoff... this whole damn time...😳.... it’s a long bullshit story of ADD in combination with laziness and more laziness so I’m not gonna get into how pissed at myself I am.
That said, she does have it where it counts and the trichs are both abundant and starting to show signs of some relative doneness (I’ll get some pics of this up when I can). We’re just lucky that she’s coming to the end as the lockout is real bad. I expect about another week but it’ll all be dependant on how she reacts to a massive 15L flush every couple days. I’m pretty sure I’ve given up a good bit of harvest weight here. Now we can only pray that my F&$K up hasn’t impacted the overall quality too... damn this is a real shitty way to end a grow but is what it is. Thanks for swing’n in peeps.👊
Apr. 17 update - couple flushes in and she’s starting to show signs of a slight fade in the larger less affected fans. Nice to see and definitely means that we were far too close to chop to be dosing er as much as we were. Not gonna rush this and we’ll keep pounding her with large amounts of water until satisfied that the medium is clean and we can’t push out any more from the buds. Not long now🤙😎

Week 15 update - the breeder timelines on this girl appear to be spot on. Come’n into week 9 of flower and she’s spent the last one getting flushed heavy every other day. She’s fading really nicely now but as can be seen, we didn’t get the purple pheno we were hoping for. She’s also responded really well to the flush and the sugar leaves are showing paler. The advancing nute burn this late in flower was about as close a call as you can get to destroying a grow. we fried the crap out of about 3 colas. Rook mistake due to complacency. The bud should still be usable and we’re just lucky to have caught it in time. I’m guessing we suffered somewhat on overall yield. Otherwise the trichs are in good shape with some regular Amber up top and a surprising amount of cloud down low👍. We expect to be chopping this weekend if all goes to plan. Next update will be the harvest deets. Thanks for come’n along if ya did - she’s still a quality bit of flower me thinks - but only the smoke will truly tell.😎😎🤙👊😎😎

Medium: 🥥🥥🥥🥥
Coco remains as the most manageable medium in our arsenal. It’s simplistic, similar to conventional soil but as a nutrient neutral medium, it’s also much more tailored to the growers preferences in terms of feeding. It’s best attribute is excellent drainage and consistency - a lot fluffier than soil which definitely translates to faster growth rates. It’s a damn shame that this particular grower forgot the cardinal f$&@king rule when it comes to any grow - always water to run off and pay attention to the strength of the feed in relation to the plants growth stage. If we had followed these basic principles we wouldn’t have run into the serious late stage burn that almost toasted the whole plant. On the flip side of that, coco flushes out incredibly well and if not for this attribute, the whole grow would’ve been an unmitigated disaster.
Method 🎚️🎚️🎚️🎚️
Uggghhh - hindsight f$&@‘n sucks sometimes. Best descriptor for how we grew this girl - imagine having the dinner table set with your finest china, a bottle of the most expensive red wine you can find, a brand new top-o-the-line BBQ, and then burning the absolute f$&k out of a $40 prime rib. That’s exactly how this grow feels...
We were looking to scrog it the whole time and this went perfectly. The plant helped quite a bit with longer than expected internodal spacing. This allowed for a really even canopy/bed of buds. Again though, the vipar 450w (truly a 200w~) shit the bed mid veg. And we needed a replacement. Went with a 100w SpiderFarmer QB. While I truly am pleased with the purchase I do believe that we should’ve upp’d to the 200w model (or 2, 100w models) to achieve a similar output and result - @silverback_guerilla was right on point with the lighting advice (*again). Given the reduced yield it just feels like the nodal spacing and overall bud quality may have suffered with the reduced power. This, despite the better light spectrum and overall coverage in general. As an aside - an additional Fixture is now on the way😉👍. Worst part about this is we’ll never really know what the true limiting factor actually was due to the nute burning. Probably the single most stupid, rook mistake I could’ve made was not watering to runoff.... just too much shit going down in the world (and in life) these days and I started to treat the grow like it was on auto pilot🤬🤬🤬. The whole worlds a cluster f$&k right now so why should the grow be any different right? 4/5 for the method, losing1 point because the grower is a lazy moron.
Yield/Harvest🌴
The final numbers are better than expected, 2.26oz of usable bud. Not overly fluffy and not overly dense. Not glazed in frost but not without a little shimmer. All around mediocre unfortunately. What it coulda? Shoulda? Woulda been??? Note sure 🤔 but we’ll take it👍.
On a more positive note - There was still another new addition to our grow cycle. This time on the back end. Everyone knows that trimming just plain sucks. When we’re spitt’n out 3-4 plants every few months, the exercise is a dreaded necessity if were gonna maintain the vast array of choice that we’re used to🤙👌. The whole process just for one plant can take hours unless you have help. We prefer to wet trim too so for those that don’t require a commercial size trimmer, the only option to save some time is a trim bowl. We bit the bullet, dropped the cash on one - have NOT been disappointed at all! Not only did it cut the chop process from 2-3 hours down to a mere 45 minutes, the buds literally came out rack ready. There was no need to do any touch up trimming and the bud photos you see are as-is, right out the bowl🤩. Really coulda used this last fall and I would recommend this to anyone who chops more than a handful of plants per year. Just awesome and worth every penny!👌🤙👍
At times like these, we should all just be thankful that we still have both the opportunity and ability to grow our own✌️. Best be to all of you and stay safe out there.👊
Background
For those not in the know, SSSC has been around for 40 years. Out of Amsterdam, they are the 2nd such breeder to market their genetics worldwide and can lay claim to the origins of their beans better than most (if not all) others.
They’ve produced here an indica hybrid cross of M33/Friesland Indica with an elite clone of Lava Cake. We’re hoping to encounter one of the purple phenos but only time will tell. She’s supposed to be super strong too and not for the faint of heart 👍.
We’ve been wait’n on this one awhile and she’ll be getting individual treatment in the small cab - 5gal. Coco w/perlite and the typical nute regimen. Advance props for the best packaging I’ve ever seen (although you may need to be an 80’s baby or older to truly appreciate it😉). See week 1 photos.
