This is my first Photoperiod plant to grow indoors. I chose a 1:1 strain, since I am interested in processing most of it into oils and a good little CBD is always helpful. My last grow from Humboldt went well and since I like the Blue Dream she seems like a good one to try. While obsessing over different growing techniques, I came across two journals on the 420 Magazine: Dutchmans Grow Journal and also Asesino85s. Asesino85 is calling this training method QUADLINING and the results look amazing. In this diary I try to document, how well or not this worked out for me and my plants 😍
Week 0:
I like to soak my seeds in a Hydrogen Peroxide solution for 12-24 hours and then move them to a warm & dark place inside a ziplock with a paper towel soaked in the same solution until a tap root shows.
Quick info on the solution: 1 ounce/28ml hydrogen peroxide 3% in 1 pint/473ml water - google for this article as reference: How Does Hydrogen Peroxide Affect Seed Germination? I am doing this, since the first time I lost 6 seeds with regular methods. My guess is, it wasn't warm enough. So now I add a heat mat to avoid that mistake, but still go with the peroxide, since superstition :)
3 days after soaking & paper towel, the tap root was long enough to be put in a jiffy and join the big ladies (my last Roadtrip grow) in the tent. She was roughly 60cm away from the light, on a heat map still and in small plastic house for humidity.
Call it Day 1, when the first real leaves are showing 😀
On Day 3 her tap root showed at the bottom of the jiffy, so I thought it's a good idea to repot to a small plastic pot. I watered her a little and added a humidity dome. I didn't think about the different environments needed for my plants inside the tent. So while the seedling needs lots of humidity, my other plants in flowering don't. Have to think of this next time.
What I also noticed is my impatience, it's awful... Since not pretty much is happening in the first couple of days, I tend to overthink everything and also do things, that might stress my plants. Here comes the overthinking part: I put her in a small plastic pot, watered a little with PH water (approx. 300ml). 3-4 days later the soil was still wet at the bottom. I blamed the plastic pot and was worried she might be overwatered. I really like fabric pots and never had to think of overwatering so far. So I ordered a small fabric pot to repot again.
Here she is in her new 1l fabric pot with bottle humidity dome. The only good thing about repotting her was that I noticed a good amount of roots already. I never repotted before, since Autos, so that was interesting but probably also really stressful. I watered with 250ml after repotting and added 0.5ml Biobizz Root juice to a liter of PHed water.
Not much to report, she seems to be stunted, not a lot of growth. Probably all the repotting stressed her too much. Also, clumsy me, she fell over while I was taking one of the bigger ones out. Poor thing :( She got a little water again, I added 1ml of Biobizz Heaven, Activera and Fishmix. Starts to look recovered.
Here we are right now. I had to go on a business trip for 4 days and she was watered by my automatic watering machine (see the little plastic thingy). Before leaving she looked good to have her 2 first nodes stripped. The Amino acids added through Biobizz Heaven seem to give her a really fat stem. Also I noticed the node spacing is pretty tight, don't know if that's a good thing, might have to do with the light distance. Since she fell over a week ago, unfortunately the leaf on the 3rd node is a little damaged, oh well. She seems tough.
Day 22 before leaving on bus. trip, I removed leaves at node 1&2. watered with 300ml of activera, heaven, fish, algamic. she was dry and needed something for the stress. changed watering machine.
Day 26 back from trip, I topped her and watered 300ml with fish, heaven, activera. looking good.
Day 28 broke off one of her leafs 😢 watered with 400ml fish, heaven and activera.
Quadlining has started yeay. The basic principal is, you remove nodes & leaves at 1&2, top above node 4 and train node 3 & 4 into a cross X to the outline of the pot. Sounds fun and it is fun 😁
It is recommended to wait a couple of days between removing leaves and topping. Other people have tried doing it all at once, so to not stress the plan several times, but all in on day. They had good experience with it and it makes sense, will try next time.
In week 5 a lot of mistakes happened, I had to learn the hard way. So when you train/bend down a plant, of course she wants to free herself from the constraints. What happened here, someone explained to me, it's like Hulk, the green guy - while trying to free herself, she ripped her shutes :( Poor thing, that sounds horrible but makes perfect sense. So if you bend her down with wires and such, make sure to give her some room to play in, otherwise the same might happen.
Good news this week is my two last plants were harvested and 2 new babies were in their first tent week 😍
Day 30 Next to the leaf I broke off, I also noticed the shute is bend half off (was blaming my partner first 😀) tried to tape it back on. Couldn't figure what happened until much later, it even had to happen to 2 more plants 😝
Day 31 broken off shute half way off again (growing). watered with 300ml fish activera and heaven. she needed water badly. first soft bending down on the leaves and shutes to contain the X or whats left of it.
Day 32 watered with 300ml fish activera and heaven. she was dry. cant be that i watered the day before. attached strings a bit tighter and pulled dead thingy off 😢
Day 34 watered with 500ml ph water.
Day 35 repotted to 3g pot. roots grew to bottom of fabric already. watered soil and plant after repotting with 1l activera, heaven, root juice and fish.
She has arrived in her new bigger pot and rewards me with some new growth. The Quadlining training now focuses on training the plant to the outer rim of the pot. While you do that, you want to systematically (on all remaining "arms" the same leaf) remove leaves that block bud sites, mostly to the middle of the plant. Also you want remove the lower growth, which is basically the bottom shute of one node. One points up to the light, the other is to the bottom and won't see no light. While bending the arms, make sure they are not a straight line, but have a little angle up, maybe 20°. I recommend you visit the 420 Magazine Quadline thread, there is lots of experts helping and explaining much better than me.
Day 39 more training. removed some fan leaves for more light and 2 of the first fan leaves 🤔
Day 40 defol. worked well. she loved it.
Day 41 one more leaf defol.
Day 42 watering 1.3 l with reg. fish, heaven, activera, alcamig. heavy training with metal tomato wires.
This was the week of training in the morning and seeing results already the same day at night and training again in the evening and seeing results the next morning 😍 Wow, I am flashed. So exciting to go see them in the morning and look at all the growth. This is fun ☀️
Day 43 looking good with new growth after training last night.
Day 44 watered 1,3l with fish heaven activera und algamic. more defoliation and training. next time only water.
Day 47 heavy defoliation. needs watered. remember: only water!!!
Day 48 got watered with 2l of ph balanced water only. run off. slight training.
Week 8 - she is properly trained to the edges of the pot and "normally" I could/should send her to flower, BUT my two little Autoflowers still need 2 weeks to be in Flower. So the next exciting experiment will start with them, how will they react to changing the lights to 12:12? Yeay
Besides that, not a lot happened this week, more training and defoliation, she is doing great. Some roots grew out of the fabric pot, that's good. I'm starting to be happy about her having only three arms 😀Intuitively she seemed to know of her place in the tent and chose to become a beautiful triangle. Haha
Day 51 watered 2 l (no run off) found roots grow out the side. nice 🙌 mixed in 2l 2ml each fish, activera, algamic, heaven. looking good. lot defoliation plus under arm bud removal. even canopy.
Last week I noticed her needing more water, so I increased to 2l each watering which seemed perfect for a slight run off to make sure all her roots get some water. I let her grow a bit before I defoliated some more. She now looks like a chicken after defoliation, sad, but it's good for her. Nice TRIangle forming, close to Flipping. Also started suppercropping her three main arms to fit perfectly inside her tent space. Another first yeay 😁
Day 60 defoliation heavy. little training.
Day 63 watering only water 3l
This was the week of the FLIP, 10 weeks of Veg seemed enough and we were all ready, the autoflowers included. So on Day 70 I changed the light mechanism from 6am to 11.30pm to now 8am to 8pm. Let's see how that goes 😍and how my two autoflowers take it. I'm ready for her stretch 💪Added a pink tape of where she is now and one as a guideline above.
Day 66 watering 3l with food. potential nitrogen-tox detected. leaves are clawing down. or nitrogen-def. later found out she was lacking nitrogen, her color got a light green. I bumped up her nitrogen food and she recovered nicely.
Day 70 FLIP for the night currently from 6am to 11:30pm ca. 17,5h. now to 8am to 8pm;
Some notes to myself:
Supercrop only during stretch not after; Don't defoliate before flip, do it after stretch.
Welcome Week 11/Week 1 of Flower
The flowering is going really slow, something is wrong, I don't know yet. In this tent no one is stretching besides the two autoflowers, they seem to love the 12:12. I have them in 8l pots, so they stay small and it's working amazing, who would have thought, not me.
Still a nitrogen def. visible in overall leaves. I'm still giving her grow food high in nitrogen, she should show signs of recovery on new leaves soon.
Good news, I took my first clones, what a hectic process aaaaaaaaah 😝But hey, they are still green, one seems to look too long, if one makes it, I'm happy 😊Cut them with sharp cutters, dipped in Clonex, put in wet Jiffy soaked with Rootjuice, half a bottle humidity dome and over night the heat mat. By the end of the week, both clones are green and doing "fine" Chances they make it, if taken in Flower, seem slim, but we will see, I'm optimistic ☀️
Day 71/1 looking ok. like yesterday. no flower signs yet.
Day 72/2 watered 2,5 l with pure water plus little calmag. no flower no new growth. all good.
Day 73/3 looking good. nothing to report.
Day 76/6 watering? very light green leaves. needs more nitrogen? watered with almost 3l. fish 2ml per l and heaven activera and alcamig at 1ml per l.
Day 77/7 one week into Flowering, no signs yet, little growth. I read somewhere, that it can take several days for flower to kick in, so I'm practicing patience 🍃
Note to self: Supercrop only during stretch not after, when will she stretch though? Mmh...
Hallelujah 🙏 it's Week 13/ Week 2 of Flower, and 13 days into "Flower" I found 2 light leaks, that were preventing her from Flower. How stupid is that?? Very!!! I googled for reasons on why they can not flower, and it was one of the first entries, it hit me immediately that the bottom side vents of the tent were open, never closed and with it being darker later here in my world, it was too light for her.
She stretched already, but I might only tell that to myself. The extra nitrogen was good for her, she recovered well and looks happy.
Day 80/10 watered 2 l with fish acti heaven. found some alight yellow brown tips at bottom growth/older leaves. CLONES 2 pieces juhuuuu 🙌
Day 83/13 watered with 3l with grow 2ml/l and bloom 1ml/l and heaven. light leeks stop flowering 😱 closed all wholes. hoping it will start flower.
So she was 13 days in fake Flower, that's brilliant. Now do I count from finding the light leaks? Mmh, I will just judge by her growth I guess and watch closely form her stopping the stretch.
Week 13/4 of Flower and defoliation time yeay ✌️
Day 92/22 watered 2,5l with 2ml grow and 1ml topmax heaven and bloom. looking good. stretching still. supercropping visible yeay. lots of tops. 😍I could not hold myself back and had to defoliate her bushy under growth. So much bottom growth, small popcorn quality, not wanted, bye bye. She is 9 days into proper flower at this point. I didn't think she would stretch too much, no matter the light issue, since she grew rather wide than in height. I'm hopeful all is good.
Day 94/24 all good on the top department, but she seems to have successfully used up all the available soil space. ay, so happy there is always something. I should've known and note to myself: DONT VEG TOO LONG WITH TOO SMALL OF A POT. this could/will lead to more waterings more often. poor thing and me.
Day 96/26 did I water her in last days? dont know... mmh. shes dry. watering 3l with 1ml grow, 2ml bloom, 1ml topmax, 1ml each activera, algamic and heaven. def. some more. removed bigger leaves.
While checking on root growth on both clones, one did not make it, but the other is happy and potted. Took 2 more at defoliation time, this is addicting 😋
Welcome Week 14 and Happy belated DAY 100 my Blue Dream CBD ❤️❤️❤️
Today she is exactly 101 days old since seeing light - 31 days in flower total and 18 of these days in real flower. I'm a proud mom 😍
The beginning of the week, I removed some more smaller growth. I wasn't sure how high to go, if that makes sense. So someone advised me, which ones to take.
She looks like she's frosting & stacking up nicely, not overly fast, but also she still has to go 5-6 more weeks. At this stage, it is a little different from growing autos. Once they have developed their bud sites, they stack rather fast, from my experience. Happy to see her go some more weeks.
The further grow this week was rather boring, she is just stacking and frosting up. I found some leaves with pink hues. This is the second time I'm seeing this from a Blue Dream strain. Last time my Blue Dream Auto, also from HSO, was fading beautifully in fall colors.
Update on the clones: Some of the photos show me first repot the clones from the jiffy whenever their roots shot out the bottom. I chose a transparent plastic pot to follow along on root growth. The genius behind one user in another forum showcased this and it was fascinating to me 😍How amazing are these plants.
Overall judgement on the cloning so far: 4 clones taken in total, 1 lost (stem too long?); Taken at flower day 21 and couple days later; The last two clones I planted in Biobizz Light soil immediately, since I didn't have any jiffys left. The soil was watered with a thin solution of Biobizz root juice (1ml per l), the cuts were dipped in Clonex also.
Haven't decided on what to do with all three, I'm a bit surprised and overwhelmed with the "success", haha. Also can't imagine to throw any of them away... Exciting times ahead.
Update: Have decided on keeping all clones, if they make it :) I am currently building a small veg diy veg box, but the assembly will take some time. Until then, they enjoy the sun and wait for better days.
Welcome Week 15 😍The flowering is going well, it's rather boring, since there is not much to do for me here and just let her be. I was a bit worried if she might have a little built-up of some junk in her soil. She has some tiny yellow tips, not too bad but still... A mid-flower flush I was thinking. Still haven't decided.
Update: Week 15 is almost over, still not much is happening, except her growing eagerly and frosting up. Her three little clones are enjoying the sun from inside (don't want to risk any bugs yet). Everything for my diy veg box has now arrived and the clones should soon be able to properly grow. I love the tiny new leaves and with the alternating nodes on them, I'm excited to see how they will react to training.
Hi Week 16 or 6 weeks in Flower 🙌Slowly but surely getting through the Flowering journey. Her buds are developing more and more, not much else to report. She still has some slight yellow tips which I don't like. I'm guessing there is some built-up, so still considering an in between flush with Flawless Finish and some water after.
I finally built a home for her clones, I'm very happy with how it turned out. It is 70cm wide, 80 cm in height and 62cm in depth, just the right size for veg, seedlings and clones, in case the other tent is not available. Still waiting for my new light to arrive, until then this 60W will have to do. Everything was built with things I had and I'm still adjusting things as I go. Fun 😜
I haven't decided on what to do with the clones, which training, which pot size... I have to decide soon, they are growing node after node and I dont' want to cut too much. Currently they are acclimatising in their new house and in the next days I decide. Will be interesting to train with the node structure of a clone.
Happy days ✌️🍃
Hi week 17 and 7 in Flower ☀️
The end of the last week I decided to do 2 mini flushes, I watered her with 3l of PHed water with some Flawless Finish and with 2l of just water after. After 3 days again. She shows signs of nitrogen toxicity in my opinion (leaves clawing down, slight yellow tips), which I can only explain by still having added Grow/Nitrogen in Flower phase. I assumed and still believe that you should not abruptly stop giving nitrogen but maybe it was still too much, or she stored it from her veg phase and still had enough. Anyway. After those two flushes I decided to give her no more extra nitrogen and only half rec. dose of food.
Besides all that she looks beautiful, out of the tent her sugar leaves are a dark purple and the bottom of the leaves have some pink hues and stems. Her buds feel dense and hard already, never had a bud that dense. Guess that's the difference with photoperiods... She's also sticky, when checking for airflow and inbetween canopy, my hands are well covered.
She's not a blue dream but a dark purple dream atm ❤️ Her bottom leaves are fading beautifully through yellow pink and some light green. Hopefully she can deal or recover from whatever she's going through but there won't be that much time left. I had a quick look at her trichomes and she is getting to 50% milky 50% clear. Maybe 2-3 more weeks?
Happy day ☀️
Hi week 18 and 8 weeks of Flower 😍She continues to fade beautifully and I feel like she made a really big step in being ready, almost.
- Her calyxes have started to swell and stack on top of each other. This is something I learned from other grows, swelling of calyx can be a good sign the end is nearing.
- Some of her smaller sugar leaves are pulling in or becoming shorter, if that makes sense...
- She also shows little foxtails, which I attribute to her strain. The Autoflower Bluedream I ran from Humboldt also showed foxtails stacked on foxtails.
- More and more orange-brown pistils, also at bottom buds.
- I checked her trichomes for the first time, not only on top, but also allover her buds, tops and bottoms. I see some amber, some milky, some clear. Getting there ✌️
I'm excited to see what she brings to the table in the last 8-14 days. The gaps between her buds on single stems are filling up nicely and form fat dense nuggets 😋
I gave her a good feeding, a little more than normal since she reacted well to the last dose she got. My worries about her leaves clawing down and potential nitrogen toxicity are gone. I blame her end nearing, I guess no plant dies with all proper leaves. A little paranoid about finding any nanners or seeds 😬😬😬 In 3 days I will start the flush 🙌 Wish me luck ☀️🍃
Week 9 of Flower & Happy Day 60 of Flower, you beauty 😍
She continues to stun with her amazing colours fading. I tried to best show her beauty with different bgr colors, with whatever is possible in my home.
I decided against flushing her. I will decrease her feeding towards the end, but not flush her. Let's see how that works out. Currently guessing another 7 days? Let me know what you think :)
Will post some trichome shots later. Happy day 🍃☀️
Day 61 - Took some trichome shots today. From the pictures I would almost say she's there? I see so many amber ones and purple transparent milky mixed ones. Hard to say. She's also almost red now, her leaves, no leaf left without fading... I didn't plan for her to be ready this week, aaaaaaaaah. Will she make another 5 days? I hope so. Also the light green shining things, what is it? I find them curled up on buds, they grow a white hair outside but they are curled like a little ball, is it balls???? I watered them today with 3l and a lighter feeding, 2ml bloom and topmax. I guess it was her last watering 😌
Looking at the trichomes and planning a little time-wise, I think I might let her under the light the whole tomorrow, then start the next in Darkness and leave her in the dark for the following 48hours. That should give me some time to prepare her harvest and upcoming drying situation a bit better. Exciting yeay 😝
Day 62 of Flower and 132 days in total and this lady has her last day with light. I went and checked her trichomes again, from top to bottom. She's ready 😍Now into darkness for min. 48 hours yeay
I don't know where to start and I must admit I'm completely overwhelmed by this beautiful beautiful plant ❤️❤️❤️ Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, I'm so happy 😍😍😍
She is a blessing!
Excuse the outburst, but she is magical ☀️ I applaud you guys at Humboldt for creating such a wonderful strain 🙌
Some details upfront, before I rave some more:
- 134 Days in total: 70 Days in Veg, 64 Days in Flower with 128W LED in a 60x60x160cm tent
- 7 Days Drying regularly, 9 Days Drying in the Fridge
- 432g - Wet weight with stems
- 103g of those for Fresh Harvest Infused Oil - 190ml Olive oil with 30mg/ml THC & CBD - approx. 20g dry (for dry weight calc.)
- 87g for the DrZiggy's Low And Slow Drying in the fridge - 20g dry
- 242g for regular Drying @50% RH and 22°C - 55g dry
- 30g dried sticky trim in the freezer
Summary of my growing experience with this strain:
She takes well to massive training and a little neglect in the beginning, meaning she recovers well, which is what I want 😊 I didn't experience any major deficiencies. She had a little nitrogen deficiency during the later veg phase, which she showed with lighter green leaves. I blame this on my long veg time and my pot size of only 11l. She consumed all her soil and nutes by the end of veg. I will keep that in mind for my next grow. Since I increased my nitrogen levels so close to flowering phase, I overdid it a little on the nitrogen which showed a little bit during later flowering phase with downwards clawing leaves. So I will be more careful with nitrogen especially while transitioning into Flower. I did not flush this plant and she smokes already beautifully mild after only a couple of days of curing. Drying her took 7 days in the tent and 9 days in the fridge. She crusted up with lots of stickiness while drying and gave off a good bit of scissor hash & kief when trimming. Smoking her is a great and different experience to me. It's my first time with a 1:1 strain and I can definitely notice the CBD content. She shows in a very well balanced body high with a slight and gentle knock on the THC door. The first couple of days I felt a craving for higher THC which settled down after only a couple of days. Very interesting and definitely worth growing. So you guessed right, I totally recommend growing this beauty. Especially if you are interested in exploring a 1:1 THC:CBD strain with all its magical medicinal values 🙏
Why I grew this strain:
Like @Experimentgreen on here, I grew this strain for my Mama ❤️ She is open minded to trying to solve some of her health issues with these beautiful plants and the magic they bring but she also likes to have a bit of fun, she doesn't mind. So a 1:1 strain was quite handy. She suffers from neuropathic pain, arthritis in her joints, restless legs and insomnia. All very relatable issues and perfectly suitable to be introduced to some good CBD and THC content. She already has a little tolerance, since she is treating her restless legs with gummi bears I made with a strength of 1.5mg/gummi bear. This small dose already helps her on a daily for her restless legs. Beautiful 😍
So with this special mission in mind, I wanted to process the plant with only the very best options and create Cannabis Oil (Capsules) for my Mom to take. I chose a method called "Fresh Harvest Infused Cannabis oil" by the wonderful member SweetSue over at 420magazine: https://www.420magazine.com/community/threads/fresh-harvest-infused-cannabis-oil.363371/ I hope it's ok to relink, no need to duplicate already existing and well researched content, right? I will not go into detail and def. recommend reading through the whole thread. I only document the short version here, but feel free to ask me, I'm happy to share my experience. The oil I made has 30mg/ml of THC and CBD. That's a good value.
I calculated the strength the following:
75g fresh Flower in 200ml Olive Oil - with 10% CBD&THC
85% extraction efficiency with the infusion method
85% * 10% THC&CBD = 0.0850
0.0850 * 75g = 6.375 gram of available THC & CBD
6.375gram * 1000 = 6375mg/THC
6375mg/CBD
6375mg/200ml = 31.875mg/ml CBD & THC
I created capsules with 3mg per capsule. We are currently trying to find the right dose for her. She started taking one capsule 60-90min before bed for 3 days now and will increase by 1 capsule tonight. We continue until a max dose of 15mg/day but always re-evaluate how she feels. She's documenting her experience quite cute. Very heartwarming and powerful. So far she sleeps better and she falls asleep faster, which she hadn't done in a long while. Onset is pretty precisely between 60 and 90 minutes. She has not had any restless legs so far. I'm excited for her and can't wait to see where this takes us.
I also made her a salve/creme she uses as a topical on her joints. When she uses it early enough, before the big pain hits, she feels it helps. Of course this is not a science study and everything is purely based on personal experience. I thought I share, in case anyone is interested, also I want to give back a little, since I consume so much knowledge from all over the internet, including here, so thanks 🙏
