Let's give this strain another go!
My plan is to try as many styles to grow these beautiful plants, as possible.
Last grow was flood and drain, this time around we are starting off with fog style aeroponics. Hopefully, in the coming weeks, I will get a 10x10 room setup with a full high pressure aero system. Only time will tell.
We went with canna nutrients this time around. I am happy with what GHE did for me but as I said, I'd like to diversify a bit. First impressions are that the "A" and "B" main bottle will last a while at 50% dose but the magic potions however.....may not make it a single grow. This may be too pricey for me, il report back on that later.
I dont really know how this works with clones, as far as timeline goes. Two out of 4 rooted, transplanted today but I snipped them 5 weeks ago.
I guess this is week 1🤷♂️
I'm hoping atleast 4 will make it so we can do a quick sog and move on but I'll be back to scrog otherwise.
All for looking good right now. I have a 5th off to the side, she is 7 weeks old.
Wayyy too much salt.
The nutrients tend to build up in the net cups so 3 out of 4 got burnt pretty badly.
Good news is, all 4 have roots now, the 3 burnt plants are recovering well and one plant is off to a flying start.
I have diluted the mix down substantially and am rinsing the rocks down daily. As the roots come out I shouldn't have to do this anymore.
I did a little root pruning to the plant that is ahead, aswell as removed its lower flowers.
Plants seem to be coming out of flower slowly.
Fog is fun.
Good week.
Still rinsing rocks and adding water daily, still on the original water change.
The big plant exploded and slowed again so i think the nutrients are soon to be depleted.
5 out of 4 plants now have roots.
2 of them are growing well and the other 3 are slowly waking up.
The 5th site, off to the right, in the white bucket, is a water only system so i am using that as a rinse bucket aswell. Each plant takes a one day turn in the rinse bucket.
Roots are being pruned as they reach for the water to acheive a more beard-like formation coming out of the net pot rather than a few long taproots to potentially get tangled in the future.
I hope these girls will be ready for sog ina few weeks.
The plants seem to be veging and flowering at the same time🤷♂️ ive done a decent ammount of reading in this area and i understand they can stuggle to revert, but i cant seem to find what im dealing with. The plant taken 2 weeks before flower is still stunted and finally putting on roots after 10 weeks...
Going well this week.
Playing around with the cycle times courtesy of my new find, a 20$ repeat cycle timer.
We will switch to flower as soon as the tent is available, hopefully do this entire grow on fog alone.😬
Root prune test, two plants on the right are getting pruned, the left are not.
The goal is to build thick tap roots to form a beard-like rhizome. The largest root is roughly 5mm diameter. I believe it's working.
Slow week, more science.
Big plant is putting on fairly normal looking leaves. The flowering clones seem to top themselves.
Humic substances, I decided to play around a bit being interested in the chemistry. Let me just say, not for fogger based systems.. The large molecule of humic acid especially does its job and chelates all the free ions. Great. Now the fogger cant seem to atomize such a large molecule.. I am sure in systems where the roots are directly in contact with the humic acid, it does as advertised. I may continue experimenting with fulvic acid but that's it for the humic.
Considering just switching these girls. Again, for science. To see if I can even yeild off such immature plants.
The yellow lid make for some really bad pictures.
Playing around with things, as usual
I gave in and added a filter pump to my reservoir as the water temp can peak near 23c during the day. I dont have my ambient chiller inline this time.
The filter also oxygenates the water so this wouldnt be a pure fog run, oh well.
Half fog, half dwc🤷♂️
This may be the last week for the normal girl. Other 3 probably have a few. Buds are getting very heavy, kinda regretting not integrating any silicon. I've got them tied up instead.
No more food from now on.
Ayahuasca round two!
This was a fun little experiment. Dont grow flowering clones😅 I ended up getting a decent yield even though the plants were tiny. Quality is still not what I'm looking for but better than my first run.
The fog:
Worked surprisingly well. I'm willing to try this again some day. One major issue, the fogger has trouble atomizing heavy molecules so I had to give supplemental iron through foliar means. The plants became iron deficient fairly quickly. Other than that, this is quite low maintenance and turned out better than I thought it could. I did end up letting the roots touch the solution, I'd like to try again but keep them above the waterline for the whole grow.
Root pruning experiment:
I strongly believe this promotes a more developed rhizome by the end, the plants that were heavily pruned had massive roots one nearly 12mm diameter, it actually broke the netpot to make room. The larger root on the control group was 5mm. From these larger main roots developed more, bushier roots.
I will be using this technique when I try areoponics again.
All in all, not much to report with this one the quality is still lacking for a proper smoke report but we ended up with more potent buds than the last run. Taste is better but not great, hopefully, as I get better, that will change.
They have been curing for 60 days and the humidity is stable at 61%, it took 15 days to reach that level.
Happy growing!
