•••••••••••••••••••••••••• Oct. 10 - Oct. 16 •••••••••••••••••••••••••• 🌱🚿 SOWED - 8/9 🕛🌼 STARTED 12/12 CYCLE - 10/1 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• WEEKLY SUMMARY: •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 🙋‍♀️Fo' Twenny here!🙋‍♀️ Back with another update on our mostly Sativa cultivar 💙💭 BLUE DREAM bred by HUMBOLDT SEED ORGANIZATION! She's been one of our slower growing cultivars, but she still looks happy right now! I accidentally split her stem while doing some light LST. I decided to try a tecnique I had seen somewhere in my studies. I inserted some soft training wire where she split and used zip ties above to pull the stem back together around the wire within the split stem. She has nice thick stems with extremely tight internodal spacing. I have had to do a bit of pruning because of her dense growth. She is still much shorter than the other cultivars that started 12/12 on 10/1. Due to her Sativa background, i was expecting this lady to stretch a lot. Maybe her stretch is just delayed a little? Maybe the split stem had some impact on this factor? Stay tuned to see how she develops! STRATEGY: To keep our BLUE DREAM cultivar and her cover crop of White Dutch Clover hydrated between feeds, every other day or so (as needed), she gets about 4 - 6 oz of plain filtered water pH adjusted between 6.2 and 6.6. This is sprayed evenly around the top of the medium using a 32 oz ZEP Professional sprayer. This has allowed me to minimize feeds to about one a week eliminating the need to mix my reservoir twice a week. Since she is mid stretch, I am keeping defoliation to a minimum, no more than 5-10% of the plants foliage in a week. I am only removing lower shoots that will only end up yielding larf as well as mature fan leaves (my definition of mature fan leaves: petioles of 1.5-2" and typically below the top three nodes of a growth shoot) that are facing inward towards the main stem. Next week will be focused more on those fan leaves that are excessively shading neighboring plants along with the lower leaves on any shoots left on the plant. Typically, the first 2-3 nodes of smaller growth shoots yield much smaller nugs. That said, on any remaining smaller growth shoots, I plan to remove those lower leaves and bud-sites early. This will also help with airflow and light penetration. I will not trim more than 25% of leaves per week. I actually stay closer to 15-20% per week or less while in flower, depending on the cultivar. I'm practicing some very light LST techniques. GENTLY bending stems to encourage even well-balanced growth intended to open the plants' center up for even light penetration and airflow. The goal is to evenly balance her growth within her 1'x1' footprint and avoid crowding herself or others. Any advice, suggestions, or constructive criticisms are always welcome. THIS WEEK'S BREAK DOWN •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 10/13 - Day 66/Day 13 of Bloom °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° 📸 PHOTOSHOOT! 📸 🚿FEED DAY!🚿 She received approximately 68 oz of solution. I mixed 9 gallons of solution for all the SOG plants. 68 oz of that was then measured and fed to this cultivar. 👩‍🔬NUTRIENT SOLUTION👩‍🔬 ⬇️Mixing Rundown⬇️ The solution starts with 9 gal tap H2O through two kdf filters mixed in a 36 gallon reservoir. The solution is applied via wand sprayer powered by a submersible pump attached to a garden hose. Nice mainline! Your plants always look nice so I'd like to ask ya a question? I read in another one of your posts about your soil mix and it seems to be a nice soil, but you also have quite a lineup in bottled nutes that you also deliver; seems like the cost would pile up. I'd like to ask if you feel like your soil mix is lacking, do you feel your plants get hungry easily? Basically, what are your ideas on soil health?

@FoTwenny, sounds awesome. Love to hear it. I've used soil for years, but I've been wanting to do side by sides on some of the cuts I've kept for ages for exactly the same reasons. Just last night I almost bought these different packs of nutes to do a bubble bucket run comparing the lines. Decided I should wait til I move into my new house in Nov before I start anything new though... I'll throw my two cents what I've done in the past: shorter veg is better for yield if you fill the space with more plants. Did some training experiments in a 4x4 a while ago. Pure numbers in a sea of green was the best. 25 plants in 1.5 gallon pots, vegged for 3 weeks, flowered for 8. Harvested 47oz(1.3kg) in 11 weeks. No real training, just lots of cloning.

@ZalySk, The soil is good probably good for 2-4 weeks without much nutes. Once I introduce nutes, I never use more than half strength, and often go quarter strength. I try to read my plants and adjust accordingly. I have tried other nutes in the past, supersoil mixes, but have had my best results with this line. Since I am using the full line of nutes, the doses are much smaller than the bottles recommend and I buy by the gallon of nutes used in higher volumes and they last quite a while. Eventually, I would like to do some side by side experimentation to compare nutrient lines. Once I can upgrade my grow location and have the space, I'd also like to experiment with different pruning techniques performed on multiple cuttings from the same mother and see which averages the most yield per day. I am curious to see if taking longer to veg equates to a larger yield per day. I read a lot of stuff other growers have done, but I want to have everything controlled running the same. Then I will duplicate the experiments with other strains to see if those results were strain dependant or if there is a common trend regardless of strain. I am still newer at growing on this level, and still have a lot to learn.

I am growing Blue Dream too and it is a BEAST! I am trying to figure out how to train her...check out my diary and let me know what you think. Only going into week 2 of Veg for it.
FoTwenny
FoTwennycommented4 years ago
@greenflipcali89, LST/Tie and tie her down. You could super-crop by pinching stems or top the plant. If she's too bushy, may need to open her up with pruning. Good luck and happy growing!
