For first time growers, is it better to just use a 5 gallon pot from the start of your grow or is it better to start with a small pot and then transplant into a bigger pot as it grows?

There's no "rule" that you can't, but growing directly from a 5 gallon pot has drawbacks. I've experienced enough of them growing in a 3 gallon this grow to learn that I won't do it again, but will start in a solo cup then transplant in week 2/3 directly to the 3 (or in your case the 5). The drawback of growing directly from seed (germinated in paper towel or not) in a 3 or 5 gallon pot is that the plant can't take up much water until it has developed its roots (by about week 2 or 3), but you still need to keep the soil moist since the microbes in the soil need water, so you're having to routinely water 3-5 gallons of soil that your plant isn't drinking yet, which is a pain. Its much harder to avoid the dual over/under water pitfalls when growing directly from a 3 or 5 gallon pot and its why a lot of people don't do it, even with autos.

Hi homie ! If you use photo plants it’s better to start into a tiny pot and transpot in bigger when roots are developed! It’s easier for a good watering! If it’s auto plants, put it in her final pot and don’t water too much !

Depends. Most times will be a case to case. Pots size= to plant size. So when considering the size of your pot, you have to factor in all your other variables. Environment, tent? Outdoor? DIY? Strain, is it auto? is it photo? What are the strain tendencies? Is it known to grow tall? Or bushy? Indica? Sativa? Guess what doesn't matter there's normally different "phenotypes" each strain can express different aspects of its genetics. Also more soil more water and nutes. Do you want to water dirt? Auto's go direct in final pot. While photos are normally transplanted up every so often max like three times, so you have more control on water and nutes application. I'm sure there's more (ー_ー゛) Happy grow.

Hi! It depends are you growing a photoperiod or autoflower strain? Basic rule when growing plants is to start with a small pot and transplant to bigger while the plant grows. This way the plant wont use too much energy on root growth but will grow on top of the soil too and it is easier to control the moisture of the soil when the size of the pot matches the size of the roots. With autoflowers you want to plant in final container right from the start to minimize shock so you wont hurt your yields but with normal plants you can always wait until they are healed if anykind of shock appears

I like to transplant. Its easy, and it's good to practice.👍 Usually if i start in a small container i don't end up drowning it, let them build some roots and some strength and then transfer over where they can handle more water etc.

If its an autoflower, start it in its final pot. If its a photo, start small and transplant a few times. Just a note.....when starting in your final pot, DO NOT water the entire pot while she is under 2 weeks old, just small amounts under the canopy. Good luck!
