It all depends on the strains you are growing. Some strains can handle the 20-4 cycle others do better on 18-6. Plant's need the dark period so they can send all that days hard work back down to the roots. 👍👍 From The Whit House

Hey, Great info below👍 I'd add that most ruderalis strain are accustom to 18 to 22 hours of light. Most agree, the plants will go into "sleep" regardless of the lighting beyond that. Cheers,

Despite that they’re not photo dependent, I’m of the camp that says autos still require some element of dark period. Autos will still be subject to a circadian rhythm and the goal when growing indoors is to recreate ideal growth conditions. So it makes a lot of sense to incorporate a dark period. I usually stick with a 20/4 light cycle when running autos. That’s just where I’ve found the best yields. Agreed, light damage can be cumulative over the course of a grow too, but I’ve never really cared all that much about a couple torched fan leaves if I’m getting bigger, denser buds in exchange👍. Hope it helps.

I agree with ORGANOMAN - there is very little difference between 20h and 24 hr light. You will be paying a considerable amount more in power if you run your lights 24/7 however. Studies have shown little to no difference in 20/4 and 24/0

20 on 4 off seems to be the happy spot. Plants do need "rest" and I would suggest 22 on 2 off could be too little rest. Hope this helps.... Organoman.
