LEDs use much less energy than incandescent bulbs because diode light is much more efficient, power-wise, than filament light. LED bulbs use more than 75% less energy than incandescent lighting. ... Another advantage of LEDs is the “hassle factor.” LEDs last a lot longer than a regular bulb.

Wikipedia would be the easiest way to find your answers.
Some lights have filaments, others "excited" gasses, others electrical discharge and others a combination of gas and electrical discharge, amongst others.
Browse - Light Emitting Diode, incandescent light bulb, High Intensity Discharge lights (or HID lights) and florescent lights.

Cola growing again after to much light while flowering?In the last 2 weeks of flowering this plant seems to have started to grow at the top of the cola again. Lefft the lights on 5 hours too long 1 night. Also needed to do some maintenance etc in the same week. Maybe to much light (DLI) and starterd growing again for short while?
