What percentage of amber trichomes are present in my microscopy photo? I personally think there is about 10% present, we are going for 50-75% amber for this strain. 2 more weeks! Help us out! Thanks! Much love from Switzerland!

About 5-10% trichomes there. If your growing in soil you could do a 2 weeks flush and by then you should be at 50% to 75% amber.

You must realise not all strains will have amber trichomes, with some people harvesting near dead plants while waiting for some sort of theoretical magical amber trichome percentage. Some strains will have 75% amber trichomes after only 4 weeks of flowering. Harvesting at either of these extremes will be disappointing. Personally I prefer to base my harvest timing on pistil condition/colour. Pistil colour will more accurately reflect plant health and it is plant health that determines trichome composition and trichome colour alone, does not. Trichome colour is more directly controlled by genetics and should not be used as the sole basis in determining harvest timing in my opinion. Harvest with 90-95% brown pistils for a THC mind bending head trip. Harvest at 100% brown pistils for a CBD heavy body stone. Once all the pistils have turned brown, the plant is nearing death which means its metabolism has slowed considerably. Due to the slowed metabolism the plant can not make fresh THC as fast as THC is breaking down into CBD and CBN, both of which cause the heavier and sleepier body stone effect associated with late picked cannabis. Harvesting when there are still a few white pistils ensures the plant is still actively growing, which supports THC production and keeps CBD and CBN levels lower. CBD and CBN are both non-psychoactive compounds, meaning they do not get you high, but they do make you very relaxed and numb pain. So, let your preferred style of effect guide your harvest timing and do not get overly fixated on how many trichomes are amber, it is not a reliable indicator if used as the only factor in determining harvest timing/maturity. Your prime focus should be plant health, as signified by pistil condition/colour. I have come to these conclusions through growing for 35+ years and believe it to be a much more important and reliable factor for determining when to harvest and have largely come to ignore trichome colour. To me, trichome colour is only an interesting observation. I would much rather harvest active, healthy flowers that have peak THC, rather than waiting too long and harvesting flowers that make me fall asleep and which do not get me as high as possible. Hope this helps und viel gluck, Organoman.
