I make up nutrients in a 20-liter pail, but the pH rises significantly the next day. Is this due to the fact that I am using aeration to supply oxygen as advised by a friend? Do you use aeration? Also, is there anything I can do to reduce the pH fluctuation?

Prepare your water 24 hours in advance with aeration, by then your ph should settle. Then mix your nutrients and ph and your good to go. Any changes then will be what your plant is eating or drinking. If it drinks more than eats your ph will lower, so a little less feed next fill. If your ph is rising toward the high level then she is eating more than drinking and would be a little less food next fill. When you have it dialed in properly, your ph will stay within range until the next fill.

I have the same issue with my reservoir. Every few days I have readjust my PH...I Don't think it is something you can control as nature finds a way to react with one another. If you are using organic nutrients, the oxygen help keep the beneficial bacteria alive but raise the PH due to growth of the bacteria.... If using soil, as long as you put in what is right, don't worry about runoff. I hope this helps, good luck and happy growing
