Hey I see this is an old question but wanted to share my cloning technique. If you want a simple almost foolproof cloning method check out the first couple weeks of my fire & water diary. It does work best with a small aquarium air pump but you don't have to have one. The trick to reliable cloning it to keep the clone cool about 75f and not too intense light. If you are doing it outside make sure you keep it in the shade. No fancy root compounds required.

Use Clonex and do in vegetative stage When u do pruning in your plant is good time, pruning Top and try do clones :D

You should wait about 9 weeks in for clones and you want to take something from the bottom

I waited about 6weeks till my OG kush was pretty big and I used the main as my first clone followed by the bottom branches because they say that the lower limbs root faster..I used 5 or 6 inch cutting on a 45% angle and put it in water so no air gets in the stem..I also use water to do my clone with rooting gel changing water every 2/3 days.. very easy once you try it a few times after about a week the tiny hairs will show on the stem in water then u can transfer to there home to be ..when water clones water from the bottom so that roots stretch for water at bottom .. cheers and good luck..

You'll want to wait until about week 4. probably when they're about double that height minimum. But after that you can clone from anywhere before they flower (they advise to take from lower growth as they day they root easier. You can buy a spray called clonex to help and rooting gel or powder. You can also top it off you want and try and clone the top and then your plants will also have more tops. Hope I helped, but there are some great tutorials on the Web
