I have discovered today that my plant has been failing to grow as quick as it should for an auto. I purchased a IGrowcan & discovered that my plant is route bound in the jiffy peat pellet supplied, advise to new growers if you use the pellet remove the bag at time of potting!

I wish I could agree with your comments, but based on my grow, 0 roots have been able to grow outside of the plastic bag. We are 22 days into the grow(auto plant) with it’s first set of real leaves that are developing which are still tiny babies, the cotyledon leaves started going yellow and then have now dried and died. It’s not a ph problem and and nor nutrient, it’s a igrowcan and if you know of them it has a premix and then one for bloom stage.

Use white lights for pictures. It looks like your peat pellet is dry. You MUST hydrate it before inserting your seed. I have used peat pellets for years. I never remove the bag and never have any problems and certainly never anything root bound. I plant the moist peat pellet with it's seed into a full size pot (I like 5 gallon (19 liter) for auto's). The roots have no trouble growing out through the peat and it's bag. I have done a test and let a seed grow just in the peat pellet. The tap root grew out through the bottom of the pellet before the cotyledon leaves had opened. So, even the tiniest sprout's roots can push through the bag of a peat pellet.

I’m personally not a fan of these jiffy plugs. They’re not too stable. I use these little coco pots that are pressed and use some promix to get my seeds going. Also when it’s time to go into a bigger pot you can just drop the coco pot in new soil and the roots will find their way through the little pot. But no you shouldn’t have to remove that outer sleeve before transplant. Just make your hole and drop it in. Cheers 🤙
