Drying

In regards to drying... in order for my buds to be around 60 rh in the jar I have to trim and jar when the small branches are still slightly bendy. Is this normal? I've read everywhere they are supposed to snap but they end up around 50rh when I wait this long.

I stop drying when the stems make cracking sounds but still remain attached. If I wait for the stems to break they are too dry. I put it into containers with hygrometers and adjust the humidity as needed. If they are too wet then I dry a bit longer. If humidity is low I put a small piece of damp paper towel in the container. Check every 6-8 hours and see if you need to re-wet the paper towel and keep repeating until you get the humidity where you want. I like humidity packs (Boveda...) for storage of cured product that is already at the correct temperature. Unless you use a larger than needed pack they don't have the horsepower to do much correcting or will correct humidity slowly. I use damp paper towel to get it close manually before switching to humidity packs which are great for holding it at the correct humidity.

I had this same issue, and personally resolved it by changing my drying environment. My issue was high heat and low humidity. Naturally we all know the target goal for drying is 60% RH at 60 Freedom units, which my be hard to attain in some areas. So my doing what you can to get as close to these targets as possible will help the jarring and curing of your buds. By using; an extra tent, a Inkbird humidity controller, inkbird humidifier, and 4” A/C infinity booster fan I was able to build a stable environment at 68F AND 58% RH. Which cured my over dryness, and resulted in a far superior finished product. A controlled drying environment can be made in many different ways, aim for the 60 60 target, light air movement and occasional air exchange. I hope this helps, happy growing!
