Top and clone the tip

I want to top my plant and then be able to clone the tip. My sweet cheese is finishing week 6 (but had no sun for 2 weeks, so it's a bit delayed), when would it be best to top her and get a decent clone?

When you are cloning cannabis their are a few things to keep in mind. The tip or top growths of the plant do not close all that well because they have different hormones in them vs the bottom of the plant where clones are normally taken from. When you do take clones you want to do it before you feed the plant its weekly feeding. You only want to take clones from established healthy plants that can take the loss of a few branches. With out the plant betting in good health this can leave it open to stress and disease. Topping refers to taking just the tip or sometimes a small node off the top of plant, normally less then a finger nails length. Clones will need more room to root and become successful. I have once taken off the entire top 3 nods on a more mature plant and it took them forever to root and establish themselves. This was done because the part of the plant got damaged in some LST training. not because I wanted clones. Side note, if you plant has had not sun for two weeks it needs some sun and time to recover from that dark period. Overall its not best to clone the tips, and you want your plant to be bigger before taking clones from the lower growth. Best Of Luck and Happy Growing!

If you going to wait two month in veg you will get many clones off of her. LST is use mostly for bettering light and air movement though the plant and to give it a even canopy with out pinching or snapping branches. I'd let it grow out like it normally would and all the smaller branches coming out of nodes will be ideal for clones. It will grow tall and wide and you can get many clones off of this. Plus if you keep her under 14+ hrs lighting a day she will never go into flower and you can keep taking clones off of her over and over. If you need any other help check your inbox and message me. I want to get as many clones as possible because it's very hard to find good seeds where I live. Right now it's the beggining of summer, I plan on giving her another 2 months in veg and supplement the light if necessary. Either way I'm waiting a few more weeks, she's been getting sun again for about 10 days. Would LST provide the best design for clonable branches?

All depends what you’re plan is. If it’s almost natural time to flower than you are only gonna have one good shot at it and that’s tough if you’ve never clones before. If you’re going to be rooting the clone outside, it’s not gonna give you much time.. but it’s worth a try. This is assuming you’re in a place that 12/12 light will be starting soon. I like to have a node or two on the clone I am rooting that are clipped off because often times the hormones around those growth areas help root best.. I usually find that the spot at the node is the place where the root formations begin. If you’re trying to clone and flower all within the next couple weeks it’s gonna be tight. Do you know when your natural flowering cycle begins outdoors where you’re at?

@AsNoriu do I start the count on the nodes that come with true leaves (5 tips)? Or the first 2 also matter?

@Grey_Wolf why not? I'm not going to do it now, I'd probably wait another 2 or 3 weeks, she's recovering.

I ment nods. Levels of branches. Count 4 - 5 healthy side shoots up and top at that place, leave a small hill, like 1-2 cm length above toped level/nod.

Wait for two more, have good 4 or 5 bottom and around 7-10 cm top and you will do it right for both sides. All the Best !
