Does anyone have experience with breeding Triploid plants? This Panama Red is expressing what appears to be Triploid growth, as in three cotyledons, with three single leaves emerging.

My mistake... Grower's comment: The skittlez cookies mutant that started off with 3 water leaves is still freaking along and getting into lead position over the Pineapple Express

My first concern was whether it will be fertile when crossed with a non-triploid.

Yes I have had a couple and they will sometimes lose that 3rd after a couple of nodes. I have a plant growing now that did that and then grow one limb the same size as the main trunk horizontal while the main started growing normal. The huge horizontal limb contained to grow 3. At first I thought I had accidentally topped her but nope, she just weird. I had a couple others that were auto flower strains and required a lot of LST to prevent mold as they tended to be short squatty mini traffic cones. The yeild on those tend to be about 30% lower with fluffy buds. That's my recollection, I might get one out of every 20 plants or so that's been my experience. Not an easy plant to deal with.

Had a plant that did this but after a few weeks it started growing normal, so it might stay a tri or it could grow normal eventually. still never seen anything bad come from it though.

no but this is something you may want to breed for IF the 3rd cotyledons translates into 33% faster seedling growth. Interesting to see how it will grow.

I have one friend who will kill any plants that are triploid in seed, they are convinced from their past experiences they hermi more easily and often. I have only grown out one plant like this before and in the end it was with the same yield as the other two plants in its group. Mine did not hermi so who knows. Best Of Luck!

I just grew a 4 node plant. Massive buds came off her. check my MOAB diary. Yours may be similar when she flowers. Congrats, it's a great mutation

Nice mutation, but no I do not. It is neat, but not a really special mutation in my opinion. So I don't see anyone trying to control or bring out this mutation. Just provides more starting energy for seedling. Happy growing 🌱
