Well my little guys did not make it all the way to the veggie state... They withered up even though it seemed like I was doing everything correctly. What are some tricks of the trade getting a seed past germination into veg?

Try using jiffy coir pellets to start them in. its sooo much easier as they dry out faster and allow more air in so its much harder to kill em off from over watering. I swear by em. You germ the seed in paper towel or sow directly in the expanded coir pellet and just water it every 3 days or so.. and after a week or so you have a lil sprout, 1-2 weeks after that she is big enough to go into a larger pot and grow on out. Easy as mate. Try it, promise its gonna blow your mind how easy they are.

I use the moist paper towel in a bag trick until I see a tip pointing out, even a small one will do. Then I just barely make the seed penetrate the surface of the soil, root side down, then half cover over the seed. Make sure you can still see the seed at all times. I don't use seed domes and see atleast a 90% germinate and veg (estimated). You'll want to use a light sprayer on the surface whenever it looks a little dry. Only drench the soil and the seed once, after that just mist to keep even the top soil from drying. Once it stands up a bit, you can stop misting and only water it if the soil seems to be drying. It sounds like yours may have been overwatered and drowned, if they turn discolored and fell limp. I wish you better luck

I like using rockwool. You can put in in hydro or soil. I've had 100% germination in rockwool.

I have not had the same experiences with jiffy. I find they mold easily and are not good. Have much better luck seed starting in black cell container or smaller pots filled with a seed starting mix. This is held true outside of weed growing as well for me. Had a bit better luck with coir pellets that are designed just like the jiffy 7's but still a pass for me. Good Luck

As soon as they break the soil its best to remove the humidity dome and keep the leaves dry. It's also a good idea not to keep the soil super wet as this can lead to dampening off, where the sprouts die. moist is good damp/wet is bad. I like adding in beneficial microbes into the soil to help create an abundance of good biomass vs allow bad stuff to build in numbers. Some will say it does nothing for the seed till the roots touch it, but I do not agree, priming the soil with other lifeforms makes it harder for opportunistic one to take over. They also look to be stretching a good amount. may want to find the sweet spot for seedlings. I also start mine in 1L containers vs cells but it just means more time till first transplant. Could also use a fan pointed at a wall not the seedlings for some air movement to help them thicken up too. Best Of Luck!

Don't keep them saturated with water and sprinkle a little cinnamon around them and water in. This will stop them from damping off
