Methods to avoid stunted seedlings

Northo

Does anyone have any favored methods to avoid stunted seedlings? It hasn't happened to all of my seedlings, but at least three crops have had this issue. I already use Coast of Maine seed starter, usually in small solo cups, before switching to the main soil.

Start them in bigger pots, seedling roots run out of room very quickly in small cups, thereby stunting growth. Simple really! Ideally some thing about 4 inches across and 5 inches deep, this is adequate for up to three weeks of growth. Have a look at my diary "cannabis conundrums" and in week 7 I have posted some pictures of a root system of a 3 week old seedling and this might give you an idea as to why having adequate sized pots for your seedlings is so important. Hope this helps,.... Organoman.

Hi there, Your plant is completely entered into vegetative stage. So you don’t need to worry much like seedling. But this time, you have to focus on feeding and watering. As you are growing in soil, the less nutrient the better. Also always adjust your water pH whenever you water and keep run off around 10~20%.Check both of your water pH, ppm(EC) and run off.You don’t need to water everyday and you don’t need to feed everytime you water.Always listen to your plants.Happy Growing... ✌️

hey there Northo, so basically it can be from anything but the main idea is that the seedlings are getting stressed. Probably it's due to the transfer or from the "Coast of Maine" starter to be a bit too hot. Starting it off in solo cups is fine but what happens is you might stress the plant during transfer. a much "safer" method is the root plug method. using root plugs just sort of helps when you transfer. If you're using soil in the solo cups , you probably dont need any starter liquid, just lightly water the solo cup . you tell the starter is a bit too strong from the yellowing and nutrient burn. probably it's better to add it after the transfer not before. Hope this helps ! 🚀

Don't overwater and have your light the proper distance away. It's only 400 ppfd for seedlings. Other than that, just keep your humidity around 60% and don't start nutes too soon.
