What is topping and when do I do it? I just saw a grow diary with the same seed, He did something called topping in week three what is that. Help first time

DO NOT TOP AN AUTOFLOWER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Autoflowers cannot handle the stress that such a technique produces... it will most likely ruin your entire grow. They are pre-programmed to do things at certain times and major stress will interfere with that "program." The MOST you should do is some LST but not for quite a while yet... The diary you saw that mentioned topping was probably growing a photoperiod - they can handle the stress but autos can't. I only grow autos so take a look at any of my diaries if you want...

It's a very easy process. It's basically cutting the top off once the plant has got a few side nodes to let more light hit them side nodes and they become bigger then they would have. But you seem new and you growing an auto so I wouldn't recommend doing it. You will get just as good a yield by doing a little LST throughout the veg period

Hi.
You can cut the top smallest branches.( the pair number 4 if you count from ground)
Once you will do that, plant will start develop all energy to side branches and you will get Bush instead of tall tree.

Should I defoliate after topping with LST ?I just did my first topping and she took it very well, no signs of stress and actually growing really fast I think.
I was thinking about LST the top colas so the lower ones can reach that height, should I cut the top leaves shadowing the lower future colas?

Light distance and when to top?I'm using a 300W LED. What distance should I keep the lights at now that I've transplanted and the plants are doing well? I'm thinking 24" and then move up as they grow until flipping. Also, when should I top? I've read that waiting for 6-8 nodes is the right way to go.
