Uncommon brand LED lamp distance

I have the following lamp: LED Alien strippanel 630W, full spectrum, PPF 1700 umol /s, efficacy 2.7 umol/J Does anyone have the same? I have some issues on understanding the distance from canopy, the specifications say 15.2cm above it, but honestly it seems too close.

Thanks you all for your answers, I could find useful input in all of them. I bought a lux meter and did some measurement, and after some tests I decreased the distance of the lamp. I searched a bit the lux values and found some ranges: - clones and seedling --> 5000-7000 lumen - veg --> 15000-50000 lumen - bloom --> 45000-65000 lumen Now the distance is 27 cm for HB and 35 for DSD1, with around 57k lumen I think I can decrease further, heat does not seem an issue even closer (now the 15.2cm in the specification seems a bit less science fiction). But anyway, will do some more tests and try to listen to the plant.

This is how I measure. Hope it works. Unless I have PPFD meter, I use LUX APP on phone for quick meausre. Depending on phone models, and its capable of reading full spectrum by lenz, but 7000 - 12000 LUX for Veg. 35000 - 45000 LUX for Blooming. This is general LUX for cannabis research Id got, But it should give us general idea. There are too many light companies, its hard to justify the heights without the par meter for me. One of ES300 V3 is hanged 36" away with dimmed power so.. Hope it helps, and also someone said plants can not process more than 100k lux outdoor. 15cm seems like more than 100k and us indoor exceeding 100k seems overdoing. Good luck, and happy growing!!

I also use 630w custom led, if they have strip bars, I recommend min 20cm. If you want, you can check the homogeneous distribution with the lux meter. With a multiplier of 0.017 you will average par value

Contact the manufacture and ask for clarification. 15cm or 5" is way to close for any light unless its a 100W, but your pushing out 650W if that's its true output. Most leds need aorund 12-18" from canopy, and in seedling or veg that can be double the height. I aim for the lower of the two around 12" or 30cm and if i notice the plants are having issues I raise the lights. Also ask them for a light map in par or ppfd if they have them. Any good brand should show this diagnostic on their lights. pushing 1000+ is heavy and requires addition CO2 in the grow space. Ideal is 700-900 across the board with little hot/cold spots. Good Luck!

Why are you guessing and not measuring the light and keeping it within parameters for stage of grow. Much easier. Daily Light Integral DLI

High Antekirtt, With this powerfull led I would start with 50 cm above the plants and keep moving it a little lower (5 cm each time) when there are no signs from heatstress. The first signs of heatstress are the top leaves starting to take the shape of a taco. When this happens you go up 10 cm again and you know your lamp it's sweetspot distance above your plants. You can also feel with your hand what a good hight would be. Just put your hand under the light on the distance you want to put it above your plants. If after 30 seconds your hand start to feel unpleasantly warm then it is to hot for your plants aswell. When it doesn't feel warm after a minute then your plants should be fine. Happy Growing! 😋

Your plants will tell you where they like the light better than any users manual or chart... follow THEIR guidance! If they're getting too leggy, move the lights closer, if they're starting to burn or the leaves curl up, move the lights away. Some strains don't mind what other strains find intolerable. I had a grow once where the main colas were literally 1.5" from the lights and they didn't mind it at all... then another grow where I had to do some serious LST to keep the plants 24" away.... listen to your plants! Good luck

@Grey_Wolf I do, now the distance is around 60cm, before during veg it was more distant and it seems fine, meaning no big stretching to find more light and short Inter-leaves distance. I like to have more Info, but anyway the plants are doing will, so it is more about curiosity and be able to master the tools I have.

@antekirtt if you feel its too close then err on the safe side and hang them higher the only real way to measure the lights output is to use a par meter
