Early Brown Pistils?

francisgerald
francisgeraldstarted grow question 3 years ago
flowering day 31, I’m growing three strains in small pots (0.7 gallon), under a 384w LED panel 8 inches away. All is good but I’ve noticed the pistils are turning brown, especially on the top/center of the growbox. Temp/hum are fine and I checked for hermies. Is this normal?

No this is the right time for the pistils to turn brown. When pollinated there would just be a few buds showing brown pistils not all the clones on every bud. I can ensure you that this is natural and a really good sign! Do not worry they look beautiful!!! Happy Growing! 😋

I don't know, but I've got a hunch that these plants have been pollinated somehow. Oh, well, now let's wait and see.

High grancisgerald, Good to know that these plants are clones. Because they all start to brown their pistils at the same time. The genetics from clones from the same mother plant are identical. So the beauty of this is that you can clearly see that all these clones start browing their pistils at the same time. So then you know 100% sure that this is due genetics! Happy Growing! 😋

It's fine, it's just coming to fruition. Grab a magnifying glass and check your trichomes every day until you harvest. I hope this helps.

Hello, you guys, thanks for you help, it's much appreciated. I wrote to you using the inbox thing, but I'm writing some more information here as well, to help other growers that may want to sort this out. - The plants are clones from previously grown feminised seeds; - The third picture IS THE SAME CRITICAL STRAIN from the first pic, and they're clearly very different (the third one is on the edge of the box, right in the corner, where it doesn't get much light. - I can't measure EC at this point, but I do own a nice PH meter and it's around 5.7/6 in the solution. - I can't move the fixture up any extra inch, so I changed the plants into a small room in my house and the panel is now 12 inches away (the stupid light meter for iPhone is reading 15.000 lumens at the center and about 2.800 on the edges. - This is the link to the light fixture in question: https://pivertoindoorgrowing.com/products/1200w-cob-led-grow-light. -I'm aware of the small pot issue, but the light doesn't cover a very large area (about 4 square feet, I'd say). Besides, at this point I'd rather have a few small plants of different strains than a single big plant in the box. Thank you all for your help and happy grow!

The pots are very small for the plants given the 300+ wattage your throwing at them in terms of lights. Also 8" away from the canopy is a bit to close for most lights. I would guess given the small pots the plants are just mature early as they can't grow any bigger with the limited root space. a .7 is only 3L of root space its not a great deal for a cannabis plant. I can see part of your light in this photo: growdiaries.com/diaries/148171-grow-journal-by-francisgerald/week/813434 I would be guessing it is not really pulling 300watts from the wall and that is an overestimate from the manufacture given the looks of the light. If you could provide us with the make and model we can try and look into this a bit more. I would also look into motioning the EC of your feeding solution as this is going to play a large roll into whats happening in your plants. Regarding PH, typically I see growers aim for 5.8 in veg and tend upwards to 6.2 in flower to avoid some issues. Good Luck! ***disclaimer, multiple people are answering all questions as there is a contest called GOTM, when a user is selected as the answer they get a point. Are these photoperiods? Autoflowers? I don't think the lights are doing this - in fact, I KNOW they are not - but they ARE awfully close to the light. The lights would burn the leaves first. With the fade that I think I see in your first photo, that plant might be coming to the end of its days... do you have a microscope or loupe that you could get in and see the color of the trichs? If they are all milky, you could start your flush and maybe harvest in a week, week & a half. The last picture doesn't show a lot of brown pistils nor do I see the fade on her so she's got a while yet to go... 3 weeks? She's magnificently frosty! I think all is normal... check your trichs... you may need to get ready for trim jail! Good luck!
