Does anyone know if letting my plants in darkness 24 hr before cutting down does anything good? Or the point of it?

Nah, it is absolute BS in my opinion, with no scientific basis or any real evidence. It is pure ghetto science.

Most tests I have read were in conclusive. It takes weeks for buds to grow and for tric's to mature. The last 2 days in darkness is not going to magically make your buds more potent. Terps and flavor profile it's possible. Also roberts makes a good point with harshness having less chlorophyll. Makes sense, but I have not seen any studies that focused on that variable

There's limited evidence, but some tests showed that the levels of terpenes, cannabinoids etc changed slightly with different amounts of darkness, highest THC peak being around 48h. However, this is also affected by curing and there wasn't much testing done what the bud had a month or two down the line, and some strains might develop differently. I sometimes do it, sometimes don't. Sometimes it seems to make a difference, sometimes not, but if you harvest everything in your tent at once it doesn't really hurt to do it either.

I always do it, the idea is to shock your plant in the days leading up to harvest in hopes of increasing the potency of your buds. The most common is to place your plants in total darkness for 2-3 days before harvest. Diffrent tactic is to water your plants with ice water. When you shock the plant you let her know that the time has come and its time to die and give all she have to the buds so you can enjoy nice smoke😊👊👍

Lots of controversy over this topic. I do 48 hours of darkness. It is all about the stress in final stages. Plus I think it makes the smoke smoother. Because it helps to start leaching out the chlorophyll in plant. You will hear both sides i am sure. I personally seen a study done and the guy had a 1 percent increase in thc at 48 hours. He tested 24. 48. 72 hours. 48 hours was the best test in all the profile of the buds for best result.
