Hello StealthOz, first of all your girl is looking good. To answer your question, i think its not that beneficial the way you put it down around the stem. Main use of perlite is to mix it with the subrate of usage. In your case coco, and only to make sure that there are airgaps in the substrate for better drainage. My guess that your not transplanting this girl, maybe when you have a next grow you mix in the perlite with your coco to acheave that. You can use different ratios of mix. I recommend atleast 30% perlite 70% coco. I use a ratio of 60% coco 40% perlite myself and it works great. Hope this was an helpfull answer my friend. Keep on growing. Peace 👍🏾

Hello sir I’m not sure if this does annything. Perlit just makes it so that the earth has air in it for the roots... I should use antipest solutions that are harmless for the plants...

I don’t think that would prevent it! You should just make a light mix of washing up liquid and vinegar and spray the medium before you switch to flower for protection or neemoil works wanders too instead of vinegar 🤷‍♂️🏽 Happy growing buddy they look amazing! I’ll have to use some preventions because I’m about to start 2 organic grows!

To get a good aeriation of the medium its needed to mix the perlite into the whole growmedium. same to all other aeriating stuff. Just putting around the stem does not prvent you of fungus gnats. You may need a layer on the whole surface of fine quartzsad ( its so shrp they die if they crawl on it. ) i go with Nematodes to get rid of fungus gnats. Nematodes in the watering once in a grow . The nematodes eat the fungus gnat larvae. Additional you an go with yellowstickrs ( gluesy yelloe w plasticcards) Happy growing

Hello my friend Perlite is a natural volcanic rock. At the base it looks like sand containing water. It is expanded industrially by a heat treatment ranging from 900 to 1200 ° C. Under the effect of heat, perlite expands from 4 to 20 times its volume and forms small porous grains with tiny cavities. Perlite can be visually related to white litter grains, it is very light and friable. Perlite is a very light and easy to handle substrate which makes it easy to set up in a fast and easy growing system You can also combine perlite with other substrates such as soil, coir, peat, but in this case, perlite should not exceed 30% of the total mixed substrate. During the sowing / cutting phase, perlite can be mixed with vermiculite in a quantity of 50/50. However, it is also possible to mix for example 60% of coconut, 30% of clay balls and 10% of pearlite. Thanks to its porosity, it has a high capacity for water retention, up to 5 times its weight. - Stable and inert, the perlite will not attract any insect, unlike some potting soil. - 100% ecological, perlite is a natural product. Good luck May the force be with you 💪

@StealthOz Put it this way it can't hurt to have the perlite there as it will probably protect the main stem However if you want to eradicate fungus gnats in your coco try to get hold of some Beneficial nematodes that will feed on the larvae Last time I was in Bunnings They had some in stock Other good nurseries may have them too Oi Oi Oi
