Would gradual harvest of an autoflower be more detrimental to the overall quality or lead to more developed flowers to be harvested later?

Harvest at once and accept what you have. Partial harvests never work properly in my experience, the metabolic shock caused by removing most of the plant and then leaving only a little bit to struggle finishing always ends up poorer in quality than earlier harvested flowers, even though they may not be quite ready. Experiment yourself and draw your own conclusions may be a better option, but I do not recommend partial harvests.

I'd much rather let the top buds get a bit more amber and let the ones underneath finish, than prune gradually. Harvesting is a time-consuming job and I'm too lazy to have to do it more than once. :3

People do it all the time doesn't matter if it's an autoflower or photoperiod, it will lead to more developed flowers to be harvested later.

I generally harvest all at once. I know a few folks that do partial, which makes it harder for flushing.👍🏻

It's not uncommon for the main cola to finish before secondary branches. Harvesting in segments is fine.
