Topping techinque: 4 main colas

I'm approaching topping for the first time. The aim is to get 4 main colas, without FIM. The intention is to cut at the 3rd node (cut C) in order to develop the branches of nodes 2 and 3 as main ones. Does this make sense? Has anyone already had any experience with this?

Your bottom branches(A) tend to develop a little differently compared to the branches higher up, typically more stretch between nodes. You could cut at C and remove the A branches to achieve 4. The top 2 branches would probably be more dominant(aka bigger) than the bottom 2. Alternatively, you could just keep one set of branches this go around and once those grow out a few nodes do a 2nd round of topping, removing lower growth- getting 4 roughly equal colas. That's the basic "mainline" technique.

Easiest way to get 4 colas is top 3 times. After the first top wait for those 2 mains to grow and top those 2. Thus creating 4.

If you want 4 Nodes only cut on B . Lowest pairs are already branching out just use that imo. C gives you 6 colas unless you remove the bottom or middle branches. D is a FIM .

IMO it depends on the stain. If its is a new strain to you i would wait and see how she starts to grow and opt for LST. Through LST (bending, tying the main center cola down below the lower side branches) This will tell her to send more of the growth hormone to the side branches as they are now taller allowing them to catch up to the main cola. Your main goal is to try and make the canopy as even as possible. It is totally ok waiting to top. Can let her grow a few more nodes. For example grow a total of 7 nodes and if the main cola is still growing way more than the side branches you can still top the main to node 4 or 5, it all depends on the plant, how long you plan to veg, ect... Through LST alone for a lot of strains you can achieve a nice canopy with many tops (10+) I would look at topping as more for slowing the main cola growth and allowing the the side branches to catch up so all can be nice tops with added bonus of doubling the topped cola. Hope this helps! Happy growing!!

Weed, namely so because it grows as such. Whichever cola is closest to light/survival will dictate the resources given. Cut at D, the 2 branches at C will become new mains, the delay caused by the cut will give stems at B time to level with the 2 stems at C. Once they are same height/intensity they should grow equally.
