Short cannabis strains

Short cannabis strains are cannabis strains that naturally grow to an approximate height of 100 - 120cm (3.3 - 4 ft), or even shorter, depending on the grow conditions and specific strain.

These plants are often sought-after by growers in Sea of Green setups, which consist of growing multiple short strains instead of a few bigger ones, and by those cultivating in small tents or closets, or outdoors in a guerilla style where you need to be discreet. Their more compact stature is a result of the genetic mix required to produce the strai,n as many short strains descend from Indica or Ruderalis genetics, which tend to be bushier and shorter compared to Sativa strains.

Short cannabis strains can be Indicas, Sativas, or Hybrids, but generally speaking, short strains tend to be Indica or Indica-dominant hybrids, especially when they’re autoflowers. This happens because their compact size comes from their genetic heritage.

Indica varieties often grow bushy and short, rarely exceeding 120cm (4ft) in height, while Sativas, on the other hand, may reach upwards of 200 - 300cm (6.5 - 9.8ft) in height. 

Hybrids are the middle term between Indicas and Sativas, meaning their stature usually sets at around 100cm (3.3ft) whereas autoflowers can range from 30 - 50cm (0.9 - 1.6ft) up to 150cm (5ft).

Short cannabis strains are not necessarily more potent than taller ones because height is not associated with resin production; potency depends on the genetics, breeding process, and growing conditions. However, short plants do not lack potency, as many short strains offer really impressive THC levels, oftentimes exceeding those of taller varieties. 

In summary, otency or resin production is not tied to height. Short strains (Indica and indica hybrids) can be more potent than taller ones (Sativa and Sativa hybrids) and vice-versa; their potency and resin production come from the selection process when breeding a strain.

Cannabinoids (such as THC or CBD) and terpenes (fragrant molecules) form within trichome heads, tying their levels to a strain’s strength—higher amounts typically signal greater potency. Still, as noted earlier, potency hinges on elevated THC levels, a characteristic unique to each strain and unrelated to how tall the plant grows.
