2/6/22 Day1. This grow is my first experimental grow. I am planting two seeds, one ILGM Girl Scout Cookies Extreme Auto, and one Expert Seeds Blueberry Glue. They both went in the water on 2/3 and paper towel 2/4. GSCE had popped a tap root by the next day and was planted, and sprouted today. The BG has not popped but I put it in its nursery pot anyway - I have more of this strain in case this one fails.
I am setting up the 2x2 Mars tent I used to grow Lucy. I moved the oversized carbon filter to the 3x3 tens, and ordered the proper sized exhaust for this tent, but it is lost in the wilds of western PA and heavens knows when it's arriving. In the meantime, they are in the large tent with the triplet grow, and are getting about 9 DLI 18/6.
More photos as I take them. I will be expanding coco for their 3 gallon pots - using the rather intimidating list of amendments listed above. Hope I keep this all straight!
2/6 PM - New baby popped up tonight! She had a little hat hanging off one of her cotyledons, so I used my splinter tweezers to carefully coax it off, no trouble and she doesn't seem bothered by it. Took a few pics, put her dome back on, and back into the big tent until her final home is ready.
2/7/22 - Day 2 - She grew her first leaves visibly overnight. I took off her dome for a couple of hours - tent is at 70 degrees and 55 RH this morning. All seems well - still no sign of the BG. I'm giving the BG till the end of this week to show herself, and if not I'll drop another seed. Will prepare the coco today - it just didn't work out yesterday.
2/8/22 Day 3 - Expanded the coco yesterday, filled the pots and realized just now I didn't put in the Grow Dots! Oh well, no harm done, I'll mix them in today.
I set the tent up for them yesterday except for hanging the light because of course the filter placement turned into a comedy of errors. I ended up putting them both outside the tent. I'll get the light up, install the humidifier (though I may just have to go ahead and buy another one like the one in the big tent, having the hydrometer built in is a godsend!
I finally chose her name - meet Shirley Hemple! She's growing beautifully so far. I'm going to undome her for a while today and let her fully bask in the light. She's getting around 10 DLI currently.
Still nothing out of the Blueberry Dream, doggone it. Another couple of days and I'm going to assume it's a dud and drop a new one.
2/9/22 Day 4 - Last night, I delicately probed the soil in the Blueberry Dream cup. The seed has sprouted, so I gently recovered the sprout and am waiting for her to lift her head.
Shirley looks good this morning, she put some height on. I completed the set up for the small tent, and the pots are ready for them. I'll likely move them "next door" to their own tent as soon as BD pops her head up.
2/10/22 Day 5 - Well, finally finally - Blueberry Glue popped this morning - baby Slowpoke - and she's wearing a helmet! I'll give her a little bit of time to shed it herself, but she seems not in a hurry to do anything. She's well named, this one. Shirley is growing well, I measured wingspan this morning and she's almost matching her "sister" who is 5 days older. Good for you Shirley!
Then, like an idiot I knocked poor Shirley over. Fortunately, she didn't tumble out of the cup - just some coco - so I restored her and replaced the loosened coco. She seems fine but dog gone Fizzy!
2/11/22 Day 6 - I have parked them in their proper tent, their little cups sitting on their forever homes. Shirley looks just great! Baby Slowpoke, well, she's still making up her mind if she wants to be here. I increased their DLI to 12 - it's very cool in their tent - barely 70 degrees - and the RH is at 75. I ordered a new humidifier with hygrometer so I can dial it in better.
2/12/22 Day 6 for Shirley, who is my benchmark for this tent. Her sister Slowpoke looks very poorly and may not make it - I will replant Blueberry Glue if need be. She gets another couple of days to get herself growing. Shirley looks just great and I'll be looking at her nursery bag for roots today. Her pot is ready to go - I remoistened the coco with solution with Recharge and Fish Sh!t. I will dampen the nursery bags with some of the same later today. It's a touch cool in their tent, the lights are at 12 DLI and the thermometer on top of the light is only showing 75 degrees, so it's not really heating the tent. That will sort out as I give them more light.
2/13/22 Day 7 - I will be dropping a new seed tomorrow for BG, I do not think Slowpoke is going to grow. Her cotyledons look "empty" inside, not even tiny leaves. Oh well, that's growing. Keep an eye opened for Slowpoke the Second, coming soon. I hope. Shirley is still going well, she's nicely grown for one week old. The new humidifier malfunctioned and the tent was at 95% humidity when I checked on them this morning! That one is going back, and a new one is on the way and will be here first thing in the morning.
2/14/22 Day 8 - Happy Valentine's Day! I did drop a new seed last night, will be watching for it to sprout. The new humidifier arrived overnight (yay!) and I note that it is an upgraded model to the one in the big tent, I'm glad about that. Set RH for 65. Also, due to heat problems I've had in the big tent, I've decided to go onto a 6/2 light schedule. The tent(s) will have time to dissipate heat every six hours, and the plants will get a bit of a break from intensity around the clock. Let's see how that goes. Shirley continues to grow well, she's going through a bit of a "leaning" phase right now, but with the number of roots she's got out of the nursery bag, I'll likely be transplanting her pretty soon. I'm less worried about an early transplant since we're going into coco - no "soggy bottoms" in these 3 gallon pots.
2/16/22 Day 10 - A big day for Shirley! She had a lot of roots growing out of the nursery bag, so I planted her in her 3 gallon final home today. She got Azos as directed dusted onto the roots plus into the hole, plus Mykos. She also got 500 ml of water with Root66, MagiCal, FishSh!t, Recharge and a touch of Silica Boost. She was also lightly misted with a Foliar Calcium spray, and a touch of Silica Boost. The humidifier is doing a good job keeping up, and the temps are running low 70s. I'm going to start ramping up the DLI slowly after she's had a day to settle herself.
Slowpoke made zero progress, and a new seed is in the paper towel. It's in no rush either.
2/17/11 Day 11 - Shirley is perfectly happy in her new pot. She is still plenty damp - the 6/2 light schedule seems to help keep the humidity more stable. I'm going to plant Slowpoke 2's seed today, sprouted or not. What's up with these seeds?
2/20/22 - Missed recording for a couple of days! Shirley is happy and healthy and is the second largest plant in my current grow even though she's a week younger than her siblings. (Except Slowpoke 2 who is still a seed, hiding underground!) She's making gains on a daily basis and likely by the end of the week I will be thinking about starting training her. I'm FIMing one of her older sibs today, and we'll see how that goes before I decide what I want to do with Shirley. She's been getting a few ml a day into her pot, seems to like the "food" I'm giving her.
2/21/22 Day 15 - Back on track. Shirley continues to do well. She is getting about 250 ml water a day and is growing nicely. I'm thinking of moving her to the "big" tent, and demoting the unresponsive Betty into the small one - along with Slowpoke 2 - who has yet to sprout. I am NOT impressed with these seeds. :-(
2/24/22 Day 18 - Lots going on this week. Shirley was FIMed last night and moved to the large tent. Having made a mistake with her sister's FIM (didn't take enough) I made sure to get hers deeper. I figured the worst that could happen was that she would act as if she had been topped instead of FIMed. We'll see in a couple of days. She's not sulky about either the snip nor the move, she did get a thorough feeding with 1/2 gal of pH 5.8 water with Fish Sh!t, Silica Boost, and MagiCal. (Recharge next watering.) She's still nice and moist this morning, so I'll check later today.
I also floated new seeds, Slowpoke 2 didn't germinate. Aggh! I floated two more Blueberry Glue, and an ILGM Gorilla Glue Auto. They are still floating this morning. Hoping to get at least one of the BG growing!
2/25/22 Day 19 - She's growing nicely. Doesn't need water today - still heavy, top of coco still nice and dark.
2/26/22 Day 20 - Shirley is showing some spreading out and growth where I FIMed her. Fingers crossed it has the desired results. She's tucked in the big tent and getting around 35 DLI at this point. Her sister is tied down next to her - trying to get the height similar. I'm getting ready to really let the lights rip. I haven't decided whether to add LST to her, or just let her go after getting the FIM.
2/27 Day 21 - She looks very strong and healthy to me on the last day of her 3rd week. She's getting a drink today, her moisture is running a little on the low side. I will add some Recharge today, should be getting it once a week and Sunday is as good a choice as any. Her FIM is starting to grow out, and I'm hopeful I'll get the multiple tops. I can't tell yet. Hopefully within another day or so. I pushed the lights today, Shirley is getting 45 DLI at the moment.
2/28/22 Day 1 of week 4 - got back into alignment here. Shirley is getting huge - I wish I had put more coco in her pot, her leaves are touching the inside. But she seems happy. I have no idea if the FIM is going to succeed, but if I'm going to LST her, I'd better get hustling. I finally got a second plant going - what a struggle - it's day 1 for baby Gorilla Glue - whose name I have yet to pick. Still waiting to see if any of the Blueberry Glue sprout, I'm not holding out a lot of hope.
2/28 PM - Talk about a post that didn't age well - one of the BGs sprouted tonight! She's in a helmet so we'll see what tomorrow brings.
Tonight, my new 240W Green Beams light arrived. I had a brain dead moment being unable to dope out how to hang it, but I figured it out at last. I can put the driver outside the tent - they included an extension cord just for that purpose! I'm excited to use it, it is a higher quality light than I am using now. Just in time as the two big girls start to stretch!
3/1/22 - Day 23. February is over, thank goodness. Looking forward to the spring! It was a busy day - Shirley is living happily in the larger tent. Today, I evicted all the girls, dismounted the Bloom Plus light and mounted in its place the Green Beams 240. Giving up some wattage, but for a much superior product. I was able to drop the height and dial down the wattage to achieve 50 DLI for both of the girls.
Shirley is much happier in the large tent with her sister Claudette, but she's already starting to dwarf her - and she's five days younger. Nice! So, watered and settled in with a light that isn't going to boil them, perfect day in the grow tent.
In the small tent, Slowpoke the GG is looking good, BG1 has lifted her head and shed her helmet. Her leaves look a little odd to me, the tips are pure white. Still no sign of BG2. They have Audrey for company now. When they start to grow, I'll move the 300W to this tent, but turn it down low. At least that's the plan for now.
3/4/22 Day 26 for Shirley, The seedlings have all sprouted, Slowpoke pushed out a taproot and got planted into her 3 gallon yesterday. The pot is fuller - Shirley taught me a lesson there - and has coco which I used pH 5.8 water with Silica Boost, MagiCal, Sugar Daddy, Fish Sh!t, and Recharge with the base nutrient Grow Dots at 3 tbs, the "heavy" application for her pot size. I am holding moist coco/perlite for the next pot, which should be fairly soon. So all the seedlings are in the 2x2 with the 150 w light, and the larger plants in the 3x3 with the 240 w Green Beams light, and a small 20w supplemental UV/IR bar. Shirley is going hog wild. Fan leaves large as my hand, and though I think her FIM also failed (apparently I just can't cut low enough or something!) she has about 8 tops growing now, as she is responding well to LST. Those giant fan leaves show a bit of yellow at the edge, so she got foliar calcuim and will watch closely.
3/6/22 Day 29 -- Shirley's FIM failed, clearly. I think I'm done with that and will top going forward. Shirley has responded very well to LST. I had to remove a gigantic fan leaf that was in the way. She has shown a couple of pistils, but she's not working on flowering as much as veg growth this week. I suspect a lot will be happening in the next few days.
Slowpoke is toddling along, typical seedling - putting down roots, etc. The action is all below. The newest - the 2 BGs - one is doing really well and will be transplanted fairly soon. I'm planning to put an airdome in her pot just to see how that goes. BG2 looks - meh. We'll see.
3/11/22 - Busy week. The big tent got another 240 W light, and the girls are going wild. Shirley grew to 17 inches. In the baby tent, yay! Success at last! Jigglypuff (BG1) is doing super well at 12 days old. Slowpoke (GG4) is finally getting going a bit at 13 days. And at long last, I've finally named BG2 - Psyduck, because she gave me a bit of a headache! She's 10 days old.
3/14 Shirley is 5 wks, 2 days old - 37 days She has grown buttons on all of her tops, and is starting to bud out. She's been growing an inch a day or more as she stretches. Last week I added a second 240 W light, so I'm now at 53 w/sq ft which should be fine. SP is 15, JP is 14, and PD is 12. Jiggly got first LST today, though I'd try starting early. Everyone got a good watering today, but Shirley is starting to drink.
3/17 Happy St Patrick's Day from the Green Girls! Shirley got a thorough watering today, she was super light and thirsty. She's really budding. Jigglypuff has been tied down, and moved to the big tent, she's very happy there. Slowpoke has finally begun to grow, she is the oldest of the seedlings. And Psyduck is really starting to grow. All is well at the moment!
3/19 Shirley's first full week of flower. She is 42 days old today and still stretching - 22 inches tall yesterday. Slowpoke performed LST on HERSELF. I was wondering why she was growing large leaves, but really short. (She hadn't been out of the tent for a hot minute.) On close examination, her stalk was bent and she was essentially laying flat out on the coco. She wasn't hurt and looks healthy so thanks for the shortcut, Slowpoke!
3/20 - 2nd week of flowering for Shirley (GSCE)- day 9 of flower today. She's doing great, 22 inches tall and may still be growing. Her main cola is just starting to fill in.
The young'uns are going well, Jiggly (BG1) is in the large tent and on a box so she gets DLI 40. Psyduck in she smallest, I decided to try FIM on her. This is my last attempt at it as I've already failed twice. Slowpoke (GG) is getting large leaves, but she literally LSTed herself. She is in no distress, she just laid down and started bending her top up. What next?
3/27 - All of the girls are doing well and growing nicely. Training on the three younger, less so on Slowpoke who kind of trained herself! Shirley is stacking in earnest. Everyone is flowering - EXCEPT Slowpoke, who is appropriately named.
