Day 1, all good so far. Wondering if NL is stretching a little, dropped lights to 30”. Currently using bottle halves over each seedling as humidity is fairly low in the tent. Day 2, have 100ml water each. Set light to 25”. Day 4, starting to show second set of serrated leaves. Worried there a touch of yellow about the main leaves, not much but raised lights up 2” in case.

Day 8, looking good, nice growth of secondary set of leaves. Gave another 100ml water each (second watering) Day 9, really pleased with progress this morning. Wondering might be soon time to transplant? Day 10, transplanted to 12l cloth pots, biobizz all mix Day 14, discovered what looks to be spider mites on the O.G. Kush day before yesterday. Sprayed down everything with Pyrethrum. Started LST today.

Day 15, stressful enough week. Had the mites, one or two leaves got a bit burned as they didnt dry out fully after spraying before the lights came back on. Then went a bit overboard trying to tie down the plants and didnt do them any favors. They seem ok though and should recover fully within a day or two. Day 16, some nice growth overnight Day 20, brown dead patches on NL bit concerning, hoping it’s just a hangover of having soaked too much when spraying last week. Rest of the grow seems good. OG was curling a touch at the edges, raised light a few cm and seems to have helped. Watering about 500ml every 3 days or so. Starting nutes next week. Finally, the NL seems to be growing faster than the OG, added second peg on it last night.

Day 21, happy with progress. Pushed the pots back a little to make sure they’re centered under the light, OG seems to be catching up a bit now. Almost ready to train the next node around the pot. Gave them a litre each of water today with half strength biobizz grow (.5ml per L). Also gave one more pyrethrum spray last night and left fans on to help dry them out before lights came back on.

Day 29, good week, lots of growth. Was bit concerned about very light green color of new growth, though some reading says it can be natural. Still some trouble with brown patches on some leaves, mostly on the OG which in general has been more troublesome so far than the NL. Added tsp of Epsom salts to my 4L solution along with the half dose biobizz grow to see if it peps up the OG at all. In general starting to see small pistils appear on both plants so looks like flowering is not far off. Day 30, obvious flowering on the NL now, daily LST to keep it in check. Hopefully OG not too far behind. Day 35, bumped up to 1ml grow and started on .5ml bloom. Both plants rocketing ahead looking really big and healthy. Still no definite sign of flowers on the OG yet but looks so close.

Day 36, all good. Week 5 saw loads of growth on both plants, easing up on training the NL now and will just let it do its thing. Did some defoliation on both plants, mainly the OG which just continues to get bushier. Still no sign of flowers on it. Latest feedings have .5ml bloom as well as the 1ml grow Day 39, OG is drooping quite badly, assuming stress from defoliation. Looks like overwatering but shouldn’t be the case. Really hoping it perks up soon. Day 40, OG looking on the mend this morning. Less droopy and tops are looking more like flowers.

Day 43, grand week, OG started flowering. Outdoor temps are high right now which is pushing up the tent temp to near 30c, though plants don’t seem to be noticing. NL leaves praying to the light and looking happy as usual. Watered this morning with 1ml grow and 2ml bloom. Day 47, nice frost on the NL as buds continue to develop. See some slight clawing on some of the leaf tips so gave it a plain watering with half tsp of epsom salt as seeing obvious yellowing between veins on the other plant. OG flowering but continues to droop badly, starting to get frustrated with it.

OG Kush plant is 47 days old, and won’t stop looking droopy and sad. I’ve tried raising the lights, lowering temps, increasing airflow, plain watering, nothing seems to help. The odd morning it looks perkier then droops again fairly quickly. Any ideas? (See most recent pics)

Any chance you know if the few days shes doing ok and then droops off again, is she being watered? The heavy watering or even a muddy soil thats got poor drainage can give her that droop. Otherwise the opposite can be true as well, lacking in water but once watered the leaves perk up(if its underwater it should be quickly noticeable the leaves perking up). The last possibility i can think of would be root problems, rot etc, that can cause this intense wilting and will often wilt the stems as well, making them a bit weak and bendy. I hope you can get her to the finish. P.s regarding the yellowing leaves you mentioned this week, i had all of my plants putting out discolored leaves towards the end of flowering, i think partially senescence and that i started to lower any nutrients. Happy harvesting ✌️

Day 50, Impressed with the bud and frost production on the NL this week. Watering it with 1L every 2-3 days. Thanks to all who gave answers to my OG problems - am still playing with lights and water schedule to see if can make a difference. Moving the lights up to about 40cm seems to have helped it somewhat, its still not right though. Gave it a good soaking the day I got the first answer about underwatering, but that just seems to have made it worse, so ruling out underwatering. The soil feels dry up to first knuckle today so is when Id usually water but will give it another day or two to really dry out and see if that changes anything. Day 52, holding off on water didn’t help OG so gave it 500ml after weighing. May try dropping that to 300ml next watering to see if that does much. Also have lights at 45cm for OG now and 35cm for the NL. She definitely seems to respond to the higher lights which indicates there must be some form of light stress going on. Starting to see some burnt tips also on the NL so may need to reduce nutes? Day 53, installed new HLG QB 135w

Day 57, no drastic changes in week 8. NL is probably on the home stretch and will just fatten gradually now. Starting to see some yellowing and deficiencies on some of the lower leaves (see pics). I assume cal mag but have no idea. Halved nutes this week as was seeing some burn on the tips. OG continues to be a disappointment, I’ve given up hope that it will produce anything of substance at this stage.

Day 63, Halloween night update :) Few environmental changes this week, sealed up the vents on the tent and changed to a 24/0 light schedule to attempt to stabilize temps as it get started to get really cold outside. Also switched to a HLG 135 which i really should have waited out till the next grow to do but oh well. Also raised the light as high as it can go in a last ditch attempt to save the OG. Lot of yellow leaves on it this week of which I defoliated a few each day. Day 65, nutrient burn increasing on the NL with some yellowing on the top cola. Flushed with 4L of plain water. Pot is unbelievably heavy, makes me wonder if the water amounts I’ve been even giving till now is enough. Moved fan so it’s been blowing directly on her to help it dry out. OG is looking a bit better but still too many yellow leaves and little to no frost visible. Day 67, watered OG with 1ml grow and 2ml bloom as it seems to be hungry from what I can tell (yellowing leaves with no other signs of deficiency). Seeing a tiny bit of frost forming so it might not be dead yet! Run off was about 20% and measured ph at 6.85 which would be too high. That was the same ph before it went in.

Day 71, week 10 saw a difficult enough week for the NL, it has some sort of deficiency or lock out that I thought was nute burn but now Im not so sure… Also the top buds were getting light burned, so took it down off the books. Now the two plants are basically the same height. The OG on the other hand is making a tremendous comeback. Its putting out nice new green growth, and got a decent bit of bulk and frosting this week. I think I’ll get a few grams from her after all. Using 1ml grow and 2ml bloom on it every 2-3 days. The NL hasn’t seen much in the way of feeding after the flush, got a light feeding maybe once during the week. Maybe about 1-2 weeks left on it, with the OG coming up the rear. Day 72, picked up some new nutrients. Gave each plant 1L with 50% of biobizz's recommended range for late flowering along with .5ml calmag. The PH of the water going in was 6.93, I got about 300ml runoff which measured at 6.84 and 6.73 on both plants (cant remember which is which)

Day 78, good week for both plants. NL is so close, just keeping an eye on the trichs now till I see mostly milk and some amber. OG is fattening up great, and putting out a good strong smell. Very excited about it and pleased with the turnaround. Plants seem to be happy with the new nutes so far.

* Harvested this day 83 (Nov 20th 2018). I probably would have liked to see more amber trichs but this plant just seems like it was going down hill, something happened in the last two weeks or so that resulted in a lot of dying leaves and browning / yellowing on the buds, I felt it was close enough that it was probably going to get worse rather than better. Wet weight is 71g, assuming about 80% loss after drying will probably leave me with about 1/2 oz, not amazing but not terrible for a first grow either :) I learned a lot on this grow. Buds seem really nice, fat and dense. * 8 days later and the small buds are just about snapping off so gave them a final manicure and got them into a jar. Final weight is 8g which is very disappointing.

Day 85, finishing out the OG kush. Nothing significant to report, yesterday I adjusted my ph for the first time with 30 drops of lemon juice to 1L of water to result in a ph of 6.6. Day 87, seeing top leaves yellowing again, could be nute issues but this plant just cant seem to take much light. Raised to 26" to see how it responds to that.

Harvested on day 92, Nov 29th 2018. Wet weight seems almost the exact same as the Northern Lights, the stems on this are very chunky though and the buds aren't as dense. Overall this plant was difficult to grow, there were problems almost from the first week. What I had hoped were swollen calyxs turns out to actually be seeds so she did hermie, making me glad I didn't wait any longer to chop it. At one point I was sure she wasn't going to make it, so its nice to see this plant harvested. Again I learned a lot from this, onwards and upwards. Thanks to Mark from dinafem for checking in and providing advice and encouragement through out the grow.

@DinafemSeeds, Thanks! Very happy to see the turn around this plant made, really looking forward to harvest. I’m thinking end of this week or end of next week, depending how the trichomes are looking. Right now they still look a bit clear (to my untrained eyes). Will check them again Friday and made a decision 👍

Hey there Paul just a thought..i see your night temp getting very close to 60, ive heard with indoor(possibly outdoors too) this is a slightly dangerous zone to be as mildews and molds thrive at around low 60s...any chance you would want or are able to up the temps on your grow to the 65+range and maybe 70 for day? Good luck with everything the bud pics looked nice and the pistils too.

paulsgrowscommented6 years ago
@Experimentgreen, I noticed the temps were getting a bit low myself, especially at night where it’s got very cold out lately. I’ve switched to a 24/0 light cycle and sealed up some air vents on the tent, seem to be sitting between 65-70 consistently now. Thanks for the advice! p.s. thanks also for the diagnosis tip. Nothing I’ve tried lately seems to perk it up. My current theory is it was light stress, even though I’ve raised the lights a good bit now maybe it’s been stressed beyond repair... that or root problems as you say. So hard to say, it’s disappointing but I’m going to keep trying to get her to the finish line.
Stick
Stickcommentedweek 76 years ago
Hi @paulsgrows! Well, there's obviously something wrong with your waterings. Either under-watering, or over-watering. Could you please describe your watering routine? (how many times you water each week, volume of water given, how much time it takes for the medium to dry, volume of the runoff, do you check the solution's temperature...). You must apply a wet/dry cycle, so the roots will spread, searching for water. Each phase should be pretty quick, a few hours, a day at max. Theoretically if you're dealing with a continental weather, you should water 2 to 3 times a week, and let the medium dry a bit before next watering. If your medium is really compact and remains wet for a long time, help it to dry with a fan blowing a slight continuous breeze onto the container, you can also stir the outer of the container and try to crumble the soil a bit. Hope this will help, keep us up-to-date so we can refine the diagnosis if needed, and happy growing 👊

paulsgrowscommented6 years ago
@Stick, thanks a lot for the advice. Right now I water 1L approx every 2-3 days - when the soil feels dry up to the first knuckle. 1L in these pots doesn't seem to give much run off, though the soil doesn't seem too compacted to me, it gets fairly fluffy as soon as it dries out. I'm assuming if I added more it would start to drain out the bottom, but 1L feels like enough... This watering routine seems to suit the Northern Lights plant no problem, its just the OG that's causing issues. I gave it a good soaking on the day that the other commenter suggested underwatering, but it just drooped worse through out the day. So I think I can rule that out? Going to try giving it another day or so to fully dry out and see if that helps, that way I could rule out overwatering... Other than that I'm wondering is it light stress as raising the lights a bit seems to have perked it up a little, but it's still not looking 100% (see pics from today, day 50). Anyway thanks again for the advice, I won't mark the comment fixed just yet as like I said I'm still not certain it's watering. If you can think of anything else I should try though please let me know!

Hey Pauls, you'll see that follow a full wet dry cycle will really start to help. Sometimes the deeper part of the soil take a bit longer to dry out. The knuckle system to measure is good but the best thing you can do is lift. So you wait till the bag is dry and lift it, see how much it weighs. Then water and see how much it weighs then. When the bag is dry just lift it to see if you need a watering. Hope this helps ! 🚀

Thanks again to all who offered advice on my OG kush plant issues. I've selected the most recent answer as the resolution as I couldn't find how to close it out. The problem in the end turned out to be light stress, since moving the light up as far as it could go (55cm) it's made a comeback. Shame I didn't figure it out sooner but it's been a learning experience.
