Introduction - Week 03 Summary - Ensign's log, stardate 100797.24, Been another easy grow week! More daily refilling of the humidifier. Had some issues with the oscillating fan, but managed to fix it and the unit has been working fine all week. Increased the DLI a bit too. As growth continues to ramp up, plan to further increase even more next week. Mid-week, foliar fed both girls again. Also pre-ordered a new humidifier! Upgrading to an AC Infinity CloudForge T7! Since this is a pre-order, probably won't be receiving this for a few months. Regardless, pretty hyped! Towards the end of the week, experienced a weird white powdery build up on the exhaust filter. Cleaned it and have been checking for more build up. So far, the powder has not returned. Also gave each plant a foliar spray of silicone. Getting closer to full veg! Steady as she grows Ensign! 🖖 [START OF WEEK 03] ========================================================== WEEK 03 - Pre-Veg 03/06/23 → 03/12/23 This Week's Estimated Goals ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DLI: 18 mol/m2/d PPFD: 278 μmol/m2/s VPD: 0.5-1.0 kPa This Week's Meter Readings & Averages ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DLI: 17.88 mol/m2/d PPFD: 276 μmol/m2/s VPD: 1.24 kPa Soil %: [18.1, 24.7, 23.9, 25.1] ========================================================== Day 01 - Monday - 03/06/23 - Total Days: 021 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.1°F [24.5°C] - Humidity: 57.5% - VPD: 1.27 kPa - Soil %: [18, 25, 26, 26] ----------------------------------- - [09:17]: Quick morning check up! --- Wow! Top growth for both seedlings are just looking beautiful! --- Grow strong little ones! --- Plan to take both height and PPFD readings tonight. - [21:58]: Evening my ladies! --- Aye looking great! --- Growth looks green and healthy! --- Again, compared to EB2, EB1 is looking a bit more lime green, but she's definitely looking perky and taller. --- Also both local temps and RH are pretty good. --- EB1's local temp of 79.5°F and an RH of 79% gives a VPD of 0.72 kPa --- EB2's local temp of 78.2°F and an RH of 64% gives a VPD of 1.19 kPa --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Done! --- Plan to increase the DLI tomorrow. --- Will also take height checks. Day 02 - Tuesday - 03/07/23 - Total Days: 022 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 75.7°F [24.3°C] - Humidity: 58.0% - VPD: 1.24 kPa - Soil %: [17, 24, 22, 25] ----------------------------------- - [09:14]: Good morning my girls! --- Both are growing nice and green! --- Plan to increase the DLI a bit more tonight! --- Since I forgot to take readings last week (Damnit Ensign), also going to take basic height checks. - [16:16]: Evening my gals! --- Wow! Definitely looking bigger! --- Growth is looking nice and green! --- Hmm. - [16:22]: The oscillating fan was not spinning? --- Checking the AC Infinity App, the Cloudray S6 fan was completely disconnected!? --- After a bit of tinkering, I found out that the issue was a fault in the power cable. --- Shaka.. --- Repositioned the cables and the fan started working again! --- Not sure how long this one will last. --- Damnit Ensign.. --- I really don't want to order a replacement. --- Haven't even had this oscillating fan for a full grow yet.. --- [*smokes a few bowls] --- Anyways! --- Time to take height readings! - [17:34]: Took height readings. --- Nice! Both seem to be at about the same height! --- EB1 was about 2.75" tall. --- EB2 was about 2.75" tall. --- The plants were about 46" away from the grow light. --- Going to increase the DLI goal closer to 18 mol/m2/d which is around 278 μmol/m2/s - [17:39]: Took PPFD readings. --- Both plants were around 203 μmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 13.15 mol/m2/d - [17:41]: To increase the PPFD, decided lower the light. --- Lowered the grow light down a bit. - [17:49]: Took new PPFD readings. --- Both plants were around 276 μmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 17.88 mol/m2/d --- Great! --- Best part is, since I didn't adjust the light's intensity, the FC-6500 is still drawing around 204.5W --- Not going to water today. --- Still using the humidity domes with the vents fully open. --- Last but not least, --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Done! --- Oops! Since I adjusted the height of the grow light, - [18:04]: Took new light distance readings. --- The plants are now about 29.75" away from the grow light. --- Okay, now I'm done! Day 03 - Wednesday - 03/08/23 - Total Days: 023 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 75.4°F [24.1°C] - Humidity: 58.9% - VPD: 1.21 kPa - Soil %: [17, 24, 22, 25] ----------------------------------- - [09:27]: Good morning my ladies! --- Wow! Both are looking perky and healthy! --- Growth is really ramping up now! --- Getting larger by the day! --- Going to be another easy grow day! - [21:46]: Evening check up! --- Looking good girls! --- Compares to this morning, there's definitely noticeable top growth. Hyped! --- Not much to tonight. --- Simply refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Done! --- Plan to foliar feed tomorrow! --- Grow strong little ones! Day 04 - Thursday - 03/09/23 - Total Days: 024 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.1°F [24.5°C] - Humidity: 58.6% - VPD: 1.24 kPa - Soil %: [21, 25, 27, 25] ----------------------------------- - [08:08]: Good morning my beautiful ladies! --- Wow! Growing along nicely! --- Hmm. --- Noticing a white build up on the exhaust filter cover. --- Using a vacuum and hose, I tried to clean the cover. Couldn't get it completely clean, but got most of it cleaned. --- The FC-6500 made cleaning a bit of a challenge. The cover is clean enough for now. --- The question is what is causing the build up? --- Last time this happened, it was due to using tap water in the reservoir. --- Since then, I've been using same store bought distilled water which should have close 0 PPMs. --- If the particulate build up continues to increase, I may need to check my source water again. --- Plan to give another foliar feeding tonight. - [16:24]: Evening my queens! --- Wow! Growth is still nice and green! --- Seems that they both are enjoying the increased DLI! --- Okay time to check the soil moisture. - [16:33]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 17% - [CH01 EB1 - grow bag] --- 24% - [CH02 EB1] --- 22% - [CH03 EB2 - grow bag] --- 25% - [CH04 EB2] --- Soil moisture seems almost the same as last week. --- Now for the basic meter. - [16:40]: Using the soil moisture probe, took reading for each EarthBox. --- Soil moisture levels for EB1 was at 8.6 out of 10 --- Top soil looked sort of dry. --- Soil moisture levels for EB2 was at 8 out of 10 --- Top soil looked more hydrated than EB1. --- Okay time for another foliar feeding! --- Going to use the exact same solution as last week, but changing the dosage a bit. --- Oh snap! --- Attention Ensign420!! - [16:57]: The AC Infinity CloudForge T7 has pre-orders finally available again! --- Wow! --- Putting the recent issue with the CloudRay S6 aside (still working), I am always impressed with AC Infinity's build quality. --- Over the past few months, occasionally been checking the AC Infinity's site for this to finally go on sale. --- Well now she's on pre-sale so had to snag one! --- Pre-orders made in November were just shipped so probably won't be receiving my unit for a few months. --- With 3 nebulizers (fog emitters) and a reservoir capacity of just under 4 gallons (15 liters), humidity should be perfectly stable for a lot longer (output rate of 43.95 fl oz/h). She can easily maintain tent conditions at any set RH level (I hope). --- Another huge improvement is she's a top loader! No more removing the tank during every refills. Also with about 3 times the capacity as my current humidifier (Vick's V4600), no more daily refills. Very nice! --- Might even consider using the hose feature and just run the unit completely outside the tent. --- Of course, the T7 is fully compatible with the Controller 69 which should provide perfect VPD levels. Stoked! --- [*smokes a bowl] --- Okay! --- Now back to the grow! - [17:10]: Filled a measuring cup with 1/2cup of distilled water. --- Added half of 1/64tsp of: ----- Quillaja Saponaria Extract ----- Big 6 Micronutrients [+ Humic Acid] --- Added 1/64tsp of: ----- Horticultural Aloe ----- Recharge --- Added 1/32tsp of Pure Protein Dry [Organic Fish Aminos] --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle. --- Removed both humidity domes. - [17:25]: Misted the seedlings in both EarthBoxes with the nutrient solution. --- Exactly 5 sprays each. --- Made sure to stay within the grow bags and mostly on the seedling (used a bit of foil to cover the hygrometers). --- Placed the dry humidity domes back on with the vents fully opened. --- [30 minutes later] --- Removed both humidity domes. - [17:59]: Re-misted the seedlings in both EarthBoxes with the nutrient solution. --- Exactly 5 more sprays each. --- Placed the dry humidity domes back on with the vents fully opened. --- [30 more minutes later] --- Removed both humidity domes. - [18:32]: Re-misted the seedlings again in both EarthBoxes with the nutrient solution. --- Again, exactly 5 sprays each. --- Also sprayed the soil moisture sensor (about 5 sprays) --- Discarded the rest. --- Using paper towels, cleaned the over-mist from the top of the plastic mulch covers. --- Placed the dry humidity domes back on with the vents fully opened. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Going to check the soil meters again. - [19:01]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 21% - [CH01 EB1 - grow bag] --- 25% - [CH02 EB1] --- 27% - [CH03 EB2 - grow bag] --- 25% - [CH04 EB2] --- Soil moisture is now a bit higher around both grow bag sensors. --- Really hope I didn't over-water. Day 05 - Friday - 03/10/23 - Total Days: 025 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 77.0°F [25.0°C] - Humidity: 58.0% - VPD: 1.30 kPa - Soil %: [19, 25, 24, 25] ----------------------------------- - [09:32]: Quick morning check up! --- Growth is looking great! --- Going to be a simple grow day! - [21:58]: Good evening my ladies! --- Growth is still looking healthy! --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- That's about it for tonight. Easy grow day! Day 06 - Saturday - 03/11/23 - Total Days: 026 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 77.5°F [25.3°C] - Humidity: 58.9% - VPD: 1.28 kPa - Soil %: [18, 25, 23, 25] ----------------------------------- - [07:04]: Good morning my girls! --- Nice! Both are continuing to looking nice and healthy! --- Going to be another easy grow day! - [20:27]: Evening check up! --- Both plants are looking incredible! --- Both plants are almost reaching the sides of the humidity dome. --- Gonna have to start increasing the tent's RH soon (closer to 65-70%). --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Done! Day 07 - Sunday - 03/12/23 - Total Days: 027 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.9°F [24.9°C] - Humidity: 62.7% - VPD: 1.14 kPa - Soil %: [17, 25, 23, 25] ----------------------------------- - [07:31]: Quick morning check! --- Growth is looking healthy and green! --- Plan to take height readings tonight. - [20:36]: Evening my girls! --- Aye! Looking green and healthy! --- Okay! - [20:41]: Took end of week height readings. --- Nice! Both seem to still be at about the same height! --- EB1 was about 3.25" tall. --- EB2 was also about 3.25" tall. Although she is looking slightly taller than EB1. --- Both plants were about 29.25" away from the grow light. --- Screw it! Going to do a foliar misting. --- Going to be spraying a bit of silicon. Made some Agsil water using - [20:50]: Filled a measuring cup with 1/2cup of distilled water. --- Added 1/2cup of Agsil water. --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle. --- Removed both humidity domes. - [20:53]: Misted the seedlings in both EarthBoxes with the solution. --- Exactly 5 sprays each. --- Placed the dry humidity domes back on with the vents fully opened. --- [30 minutes later] --- Removed both humidity domes. - [21:26]: Re-misted the seedlings in both EarthBoxes with the solution. --- Exactly 5 more sprays each. --- Placed the dry humidity domes back on with the vents fully opened. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Compared to the beginning of the week, both girls are definitely getting bigger. I'm just stoked that they're both looking healthy! --- In preparation for the removal of the humidity dome, going to adjust the tent's RH a bit more. - [22:14]: Adjusted the tent's environmental controls. --- Adjusted the heater and humidifier's controller target TEMP/RH values from 78°F/60% to 78°F/65% --- Done! --- Local RH (under the humidity domes) look pretty good, --- However, as both plants get closer to the edges of the dome, plan to further increase the tent's RH even more to closer match the conditions under the dome. Great diary! Love the info. I too use earthboxes and Build a Soil nutrients. I noticed your Ecowitt moisture meter data is at 19-25%. My earthbox without the reservoir filled is reading 40-42%. If you use your fingers to test the area, are you finding the soil moist one inch below the surface? Just curious! Good luck with your grow, you are using the best of the best and I followed you to watch your progress!

@Ensign420, All great questions... I would wait until the moisture drops after top drench to fill the reservoir. I look to see if the reservoir is dry and if so, will fill reservoir a few days after last top drench. I use rainwater. I found that RO and distilled water contain absolutely nothing for plants. I noticed my plants really like rainwater. So, I set up a rain barrel to harvest water. Rainwater is near neutral PH with little or no particulates. I measured it as low as 5 ppm. Much better than the wasteful RO water. I do use distilled water for my humidifiers to reduce the white calcium/sodium dust that is caused by using tap water. Tap water is fine if you have decent water without too much sodium. I usually do not add additives to the reservoir, preferring a soil drench technique if adding anything. I have added Yah Whey to the reservoir with spectacular results, but much reduced dosage, say one ounce for entire reservoir, but very infrequently. I never PH my water. Microbes take care of all that for me, for which I am profoundly grateful. I would not use a wetting agent for the reservoir at all, just for top drench when you want to add additives such as BuildABloom which I highly recommend as a bloom booster, top drench that onto the soil. Nor would I add Mycrobe complete. I worry a lot about anaerobic bacteria in the reservoir as there is little aeration that occurs in the reservoir proper, so I try to keep it clean. Hope this helps. Great questions!

@MarcGrows, Nice! Out of all of my EarthBox grows, still have yet to fully fill the reservoir. But plan to give it a try soon. Just finished top watering today (reservoir is currently dry): - The larger plant is at 31% with the soil being at 44% - The smaller plant is at 33% with the soil being at 35% Since I just top watered today, guess I should wait a few days before filling the reservoirs right? Also wondering, when you're filling the reservoir all the way with 2-3gal, do you use tap water or distilled water? Do you add any additives to the reservoir water (Yah-Whey, Quillaja, Mycrobe Complete, etc)? Do you pH the water?

@Ensign420, my results with the earthbox have been spectacular in the past, and I really do nothing, that's why I love using them. I top drench for the first 4-5 weeks until roots have developed long enough to drink the water in the reservoir. When I do fill the reservoir, I fill it completely until water escapes from the overflow. Usually, 2-3 gallons. I then watch the water level until it is dry from viewing the fill tube. I usually wait one or two days before refilling the empty reservoir again. After initially filling the reservoir, I then top water only for a feeding such as BuildABloom or ferments. I wait to soil drench when the reservoir is empty. I do not have to feed her a lot as I top dress shortly after she drinks the entire reservoir for pre-flower feeding. I usually cut out ferments in flower. Currently, my Ecowitt moisture is at 53% with water in the reservoir. I have not customized the MULT_CH Soil settings. No need to apologize! We use the earthbox for simplicity in our busy lives. I also re-amended my soil before the grow. One of the ingredients I have never used before to re-amend is basalt. Known for its mineralization and paramagnetic energy, it could be why my moisture meter states a higher percentage. It sure conditioned my media making it fluffy, providing a texture I never experienced before.

Excellent detail. I just bought the Apogee MQ-610 ePar that measures up to 730nm. I should've spent the money on that a long time ago. My lights were too close last season.
