Introduction - Week 04 Summary - Ensign's log, stardate 100810.92, Well top growth is starting slow down. Yet soil moisture is continuing to dry out. At the beginning of the week, lowered the grow light a bit closer to increase the DLI. Foliar fed twice this week. Have not bottom watered but plan to next week. Probably should have started this week? Had soil moisture sensor issues too, but now everything is working fine. Lifted the humidity dome slightly off of EB1. Now the dome is raised about 2-3" above the mulch cover. To better match conditions under the dome, started to increase the tent's RH closer to 75%. Also have the vents fully closed. Now have to refill the humidifier daily during both the morning and evening checkups. Also ordered a mini green house to help with local RH control. Towards the end of the week, growth seems to be slowing down. Think I probably should have started bottom watering this week. Plan to start soon. Onto next week Ensign. This will lower over the next day or so. --- I really hope I didn't over-water! --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Also decided to increase the RH even further. - [19:00]: Within the AC Infinity App, --- Adjusted the 'Vegetative [18/6]' Schedule for the exhaust fan. --- Increased the humidity's MAX/MIN from 73%/35% to 76%/35% --- Adjusted the heater and humidifier's controller target TEMP/RH values from 78°F/65% to 78°F/70% --- Hopefully with these adjustments, the tent's VPD will be closer to the local VPD under the domes. Will continue to check and increase the RH as needed. Day 03 - Wednesday - 03/15/23 - Total Days: 030 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.6°F [24.8°C] - Humidity: 67.3% - VPD: 1.00 kPa - Soil %: [18, 25, 23, 25] ----------------------------------- - [09:31]: Good morning my girls! --- Growing along nicely! --- Going to be an easy grow day! - [21:38]: Evening check up! --- Still green! Still growing along green and healthy! --- Plan to check soil moisture levels tonight. - [16:20]: Evening my ganja gals! --- Looking green and great! --- Time to check the soil moisture! --- Hmm. There seems to be a bit of a UI issue within the WSView Plus app. --- Had to download the new Ecowitt app and reconnect the gateway and sensors to view the data. --- Anyways, - [17:05]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 17% - [CH01 EB1 - grow bag] --- 24% - [CH02 EB1] --- 25% - [CH03 EB2 - grow bag] --- 22% - [CH04 EB2] --- Soil moisture seems lower than last check so looking good. --- EB2 does seems to have a bit more moisture than EB1. --- Okay! Now for the basic meter. - [17:23]: Using the soil moisture probe, took reading for each EarthBox. --- Soil moisture levels for EB1 was at 6.2 out of 10 --- Top soil looked pretty dry. --- Soil moisture levels for EB2 was at 9.5 out of 10 --- Top soil looked hydrated. --- Okay time for another foliar feeding! --- Going to use a similar solution similar to last week. --- As far as dosage, going to lower it for EB2, but increase for EB1. - [17:40]: Filled a measuring cup with 1/2cup of distilled water. --- Added half of 1/64tsp of: ----- Quillaja Saponaria Extract ----- Big 6 Micronutrients [+ Humic Acid] --- Added 1/64tsp of: ----- Horticultural Aloe ----- Mycrobe Complete ----- Recharge --- Added 1/32tsp of Pure Protein Dry [Organic Fish Aminos] --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle. --- Removed both humidity domes. - [17:54]: Misted the seedlings in both EarthBoxes with the nutrient solution. --- Exactly 3 sprays for EB1. Then exactly 5 sprays onto the top of the grow bag. --- Misted exactly 3 sprays for EB2. --- Placed the dry humidity domes back on with the vents fully opened. --- [30 minutes later] --- Removed both humidity domes. - [18:33]: Re-misted the seedlings in both EarthBoxes with the nutrient solution. --- Again, exactly 3 sprays for EB1. Then exactly 5 sprays onto the top of the grow bag. --- Misted exactly 3 sprays for EB2. --- Placed the dry humidity domes back on with the vents fully opened. --- [30 more minutes later] --- Removed only EB1's humidity dome. - [19:24]: Re-misted the seedling in EarthBox1 with the nutrient solution. --- Exactly 3 sprays for EB1. Then exactly 5 sprays onto the top of the grow bag. --- Did not mist EB2. --- Sprayed both soil moisture sensors (around 5-6 sprays each) --- Discarded the rest of the solution. --- Using paper towels, cleaned the over-mist from the top of both plastic mulch covers. --- Placed the dry humidity domes back on with the vents fully opened. --- Checked the soil meters again. --- Hmm. --- Again still getting familiar with the new Ecowitt app and UI. --- The moisture data seemed incorrect and a bit out of order, so had to re-register the correct sensor IDs within the gateway (glad I had logs with the correct sensor ID order). --- This means the data logged from earlier today (using the same app), is probably out of order (damnit Ensign). --- Anyways, after a bit of tinkering, finally got the correct order. - [19:52]: Checked the Ecowitt soil moisture sensor data: --- 24% - [CH01 EB1 - grow bag] --- 24% - [CH02 EB1] --- 28% - [CH03 EB2 - grow bag] --- 24% - [CH04 EB2] --- Great! Soil moisture is looking correct with levels obviously higher near the grow bags. Great! --- Once they grow beyond the dome, will start to bottom watering. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Redirected the humidifier a bit. The unit is now pushing vapor towards the oscillating fan. --- Hopefully this helps to even out the RH a bit more. Day 05 - Friday - 03/17/23 - Total Days: 032 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 77.3°F [25.2°C] - Humidity: 63.7% - VPD: 1.13 kPa - Soil %: [20, 25, 24, 24] ----------------------------------- - [09:19]: Morning my ladies! --- Quick morning checkup! --- Looking good! Growth is still looking green! --- EB1 has pretty much reached the sides of the dome. May start removing the dome tonight by lifting it up partially. - [22:10]: Good evening my girls! --- Both are looking pretty green and healthy! --- EB1 is pretty much at the edge of the dome. Going to have to adjust it soon. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). - [23:13]: Screw it! Decided to lift the humidity dome up. --- Using some putty and plastic cups, I lifted the humidity dome up. Now the dome is a good 2-3" above the plant. Still have the vents of the humidity dome fully opened. --- Also ordered mini greenhouse (via Amazon). This should help to increase the local RH. --- Will probably need to increase the RH even further tomorrow. Day 06 - Saturday - 03/18/23 - Total Days: 033 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.8°F [24.9°C] - Humidity: 68.8% - VPD: 0.96 kPa - Soil %: [18, 25, 23, 24] ----------------------------------- - [07:26]: Quick morning check up! --- Looking good girls! --- Not much else to do right now. --- Plan to increase the tent's RH tonight. - [19:28]: Good evening my ladies! --- Growth is still green! --- Although EB1 is looking a bit lime on the edges of her leaves. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Now that a plant is more dependent on the tent's conditions, - [20:43]: Adjusted the tent's environmental controls. --- Adjusted the heater and humidifier's controller target TEMP/RH values from 78°F/70% to 78°F/75% --- Then within the AC Infinity App, --- Adjusted the 'Vegetative [18/6]' Schedule for the exhaust fan. --- Increased the humidity's MAX/MIN from 76%/35% to 78%/35% --- As the tent's RH increases, - [20:58]: Misted both humidity domes with distilled water. --- About 3 sprays each. - [21:37]: Adjusted the humidifier's exhaust angle. --- Now the humidifier is pushing vapor towards the middle of the tent (was pointed back towards the oscillating fan). --- Done! --- Plan to take height checks tomorrow! Day 07 - Sunday - 03/19/23 - Total Days: 034 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.3°F [24.6°C] - Humidity: 72.5% - VPD: 0.84 kPa - Soil %: [17, 25, 21, 24] ----------------------------------- - [07:33]: Quick morning check up! --- Nice! Growing along and still looking green! --- Decided to close the vents for EB1's humidity dome. The added air gap should be more than enough ventilation. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- As expected, the increased RH means more humidifier refills. --- Plan to take height and distance checks tonight! - [21:53]: Evening my ladies! --- Growth is still green but seems to be growing a bit slower. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Okay! - [22:09]: Took end of week height readings. --- EB1 is now a bit taller. --- EB1 is about 4.25" tall. --- EB2 is about 3.75" tall. --- Both plants are now about 23.5" away from the grow light. --- Hmm. --- Both are looking a bit droopy. But leaves are not yellow. --- I really want to water both of them, but am too afraid of over-watering. --- Going to let the soil dry out a bit more. Plan to start bottom watering soon. Great diary! Love the info. I too use earthboxes and Build a Soil nutrients. I noticed your Ecowitt moisture meter data is at 19-25%. My earthbox without the reservoir filled is reading 40-42%. If you use your fingers to test the area, are you finding the soil moist one inch below the surface? Just curious! Good luck with your grow, you are using the best of the best and I followed you to watch your progress!

@Ensign420, All great questions... I would wait until the moisture drops after top drench to fill the reservoir. I look to see if the reservoir is dry and if so, will fill reservoir a few days after last top drench. I use rainwater. I found that RO and distilled water contain absolutely nothing for plants. I noticed my plants really like rainwater. So, I set up a rain barrel to harvest water. Rainwater is near neutral PH with little or no particulates. I measured it as low as 5 ppm. Much better than the wasteful RO water. I do use distilled water for my humidifiers to reduce the white calcium/sodium dust that is caused by using tap water. Tap water is fine if you have decent water without too much sodium. I usually do not add additives to the reservoir, preferring a soil drench technique if adding anything. I have added Yah Whey to the reservoir with spectacular results, but much reduced dosage, say one ounce for entire reservoir, but very infrequently. I never PH my water. Microbes take care of all that for me, for which I am profoundly grateful. I would not use a wetting agent for the reservoir at all, just for top drench when you want to add additives such as BuildABloom which I highly recommend as a bloom booster, top drench that onto the soil. Nor would I add Mycrobe complete. I worry a lot about anaerobic bacteria in the reservoir as there is little aeration that occurs in the reservoir proper, so I try to keep it clean. Hope this helps. Great questions!

@MarcGrows, Nice! Out of all of my EarthBox grows, still have yet to fully fill the reservoir. But plan to give it a try soon. Just finished top watering today (reservoir is currently dry): - The larger plant is at 31% with the soil being at 44% - The smaller plant is at 33% with the soil being at 35% Since I just top watered today, guess I should wait a few days before filling the reservoirs right? Also wondering, when you're filling the reservoir all the way with 2-3gal, do you use tap water or distilled water? Do you add any additives to the reservoir water (Yah-Whey, Quillaja, Mycrobe Complete, etc)? Do you pH the water?

@Ensign420, my results with the earthbox have been spectacular in the past, and I really do nothing, that's why I love using them. I top drench for the first 4-5 weeks until roots have developed long enough to drink the water in the reservoir. When I do fill the reservoir, I fill it completely until water escapes from the overflow. Usually, 2-3 gallons. I then watch the water level until it is dry from viewing the fill tube. I usually wait one or two days before refilling the empty reservoir again. After initially filling the reservoir, I then top water only for a feeding such as BuildABloom or ferments. I wait to soil drench when the reservoir is empty. I do not have to feed her a lot as I top dress shortly after she drinks the entire reservoir for pre-flower feeding. I usually cut out ferments in flower. Currently, my Ecowitt moisture is at 53% with water in the reservoir. I have not customized the MULT_CH Soil settings. No need to apologize! We use the earthbox for simplicity in our busy lives. I also re-amended my soil before the grow. One of the ingredients I have never used before to re-amend is basalt. Known for its mineralization and paramagnetic energy, it could be why my moisture meter states a higher percentage. It sure conditioned my media making it fluffy, providing a texture I never experienced before.

Excellent detail. I just bought the Apogee MQ-610 ePar that measures up to 730nm. I should've spent the money on that a long time ago. My lights were too close last season.
