It may be July, but there's no sign of good summer weather. It's raining a lot, the temperatures have dropped to below ten degrees at night, but the ladies have still managed to grow something. It has to be said that the polytunnel offers a clear advantage. The plant in the polytunnel is about 1/3 larger than the plant in the unprotected outdoor area. However, the plant in the polytunnel would quickly topple over if it were placed outside at this time, as it would not be able to withstand the wind. I'm curious to see how it will continue. Hopefully the tropical days with mild nights will return soon. No fertilisation was necessary, as there was little watering due to all the rain. Is it necessary to defoliate plants growing outdoors in pots or in the garden soil? What I read about this is very contradictory.

There is no straight answer. It depends on the plant and your environment. Like asking if anti freeze is important in a car. If you are somewhere it gets below freezing, probably yes. If not, probably no. It all depends on the humidity and airflow. Plants are only at the pinnacle of evolution for the environment they evolved in. If you remove them from that climate and grow them elswhere, they may do terribly as they are not suited for that climate or environment. Like a polar bear trying to survive in the Sahara, pinnacle predator in the cold, but dead fast in the heat. We are now growing mostly polyhybrids bred for stable indoor climates and sometimes they need some help outside. You need to work out what is best for your environment.

As the temperatures drop, you’ve got the perfect setup to help your plants transition quickly into the flowering phase after those high temps. Fingers crossed that everything plays out well! 🌡️🌸
