Here we go again! I'm starting another small outdoor grow that will sit on the window sill once my current plant is done in a few weeks. This round, I'm growing Bubba Cheese Auto from Humboldt Seed Organization. This is the fourth try with this cultivar as the first three attempts failed (twice by a friend and once by myself). Fourth time a charm? Bubba Cheese Auto Genotype: 95% Indica / 5% Sativa Genetics: Bubba Kush x UK Cheese x Ruderalis Life cycle: 60-65 days Outdoor yield: 35-60 g/plant Outdoor height: 0.75-1 m THC: 13-17% CBD: 0.1% I started like I always do by soaking the seed overnight in a kelp/mycorrhiza solution and then rolling the seed in more kelp/myco powder before planting in a Root Riot plug. I'm keeping this grow 100% no-tech, so instead of using my regular heating mat, I simply placed the plug in a plastic mug and put it between my computer and monitor since that is the warmest location in my house. 48 hours later, we had germination. Success! I transplanted the plug into a small one-liter pot, added some lava rocks as mulch, and placed her outside. She will stay in this pot until my other plant is done in a couple of weeks. Then I'll transplant her into a small sub-irrigated planter.

Not much has happened this week. At least not above the ground, but I suspect she has been busy establishing her roots. I plan to keep her in the small one-liter pot until I have space for the larger planter in a week or two.

Yet, another week has passed, and not much has happened. She has grown somewhat, but not much. I suspect it has to do with our lack of sun. The weather is supposed to improve (today we had 30 degrees and full sun, yay!), and I'm transplanting her into the planter tomorrow. Hopefully, better weather and more soil will get her going. Not that I need a big harvest, but a runt is no fun either.

Another week has passed, and not much has happened. I decided to name this plant 'June' as I dropped the seed into the soil on June 1st, so it seemed appropriate. It also follows the name-theme of her predecessor, April. I transplanted June into her final pot earlier in the week. It's a sub-irrigated planter with 5.7 liters of soil and a 2-liter water reservoir. It may be small, but it fits precisely into the available space on the window ledge, so it's impossible to fit a larger pot. I left the country for a few days and left June to settle into her new home. A few days later, upon return, I saw some burnt leaves, indicating the soil was too "hot" for such a young plant. I was unsurprised as I previously amended the soil heavily with worm castings and insect frass. Considering the amount of soil, I wanted to squeeze in as many nutrients as possible. I had hoped that she would be larger and more developed before the transplant and thus better able to handle the hot soil, but she remained small due to our lack of sun. However, the weather has improved in the last few days, so let's hope it continues. Fingers crossed 🤞🤞

There's not much to report. The weather has improved, so June has taken advantage of the sun and grown. She is still tiny, considering her age, but I'm hoping it will take another couple of weeks before she goes into flower so she has time to develop and branch out. According to the breeder, this cultivar should only take 60-65 days, so fingers crossed that that is entirely wrong :D It is clear that the soil is too hot for her. as the older leaves are getting burnt, but all new vegetation looks vibrant and healthy. Oh well, that's what you get for laziness by pre-loading the soil with excessive nutrients. (I'm not surprised, though, as I suspected this might happen.)

Another week of crappy weather has passed. I heard that this June was the wettest since they started recording weather. Yay... No wonder she is small. It is not easy to grow without the sun. In any case, this was the last week of veg as she is transitioning into flower. I did some LST because why not? :D

Another week passed, and we didn't have terrible weather every day. Yay! June will stay small due to the lack of sun, but that's OK. This grow is only a fun little side-project over the summer. She is now firmly in flower, and I can already smell her from a few meters away. Let's see how cheesy she will get before she is done :) Older leaves clearly show nutrient burn, but whatever.

The weather has been decent this last week, and June has enjoyed the rare sun. Her buds are slowly developing, and she has a lovely citrus smell—not really what I expected, considering her Cheese heritage. I'm curious how her terp profile will change as we progress through flower. Besides that, there isn't much to report. I leave her alone most of the time and only check in on her every few days to see if the reservoir in her planter needs a refill.

Another week has passed, and June is quietly doing her thing on the windowsill. There isn't anything to report as all I do is filling up the reservoir when empty. This will be the last report in a while, as I'm leaving on a three-week-long road trip throughout Italy in a couple of days. A friend of mine will take care of the watering, but as he is also a stoner, I installed an Ecowitt Soil Moisture sensor that will alert me if the soil gets too dry. Better safe than sorry ;)

I came home a few days ago and found that she had bulked up and started her senescence. I also found a few nanners, making me question genetics' stability. This seed was quite old, which is why I picked it in the first place. I didn't want to waste better, more modern genetics on a tiny side-project grow. No big deal, as it was time to cut her down anyway. However, as a final slap in the face, her most outward bud had budrot. It's likely because it had the most rain exposure. I snipped off the entire bud before stripping off the fan leaves and hanging her to dry in my drying tent. I estimate it will be a MASSIVE harvest of around 10 grams, lmao Whatever. This grow was mainly to have a fun little project over the summer and scratch that growing itch. That said, I look forward to tasting those precious few grams as she literally stinks. It must be her cheese heritage shining through. Now, I'll leave her to dry for a couple of weeks.

Oooops, I almost forgot to finish this diary, although there isn't much to say. I left her to dry for two weeks before trimming her. The final result was a massive harvest of 10,8 grams! Not that I care, as this was just a fun little project with a plant outside my windowsill. Now that fall is here, the outdoor grows are done for this year, and the indoor season is just gearing up, but I'll be back with a tiny outdoor grow next summer :)
