Hey my fellow Cannabis lovers, it's time for a new and exciting grow ✌️ I didn't plan for another indoor round this summer, however this limited edition strain convinced me otherwise 😁. Fruity Donutz is a collab between Zamnesia and Sweet Seeds (Apple Fritter Auto and Strawberry Banana Gelato XL Auto) and as the name suggests this will be a really fruity and sweet experience. The effects are energetic and uplifting and it can be harvested after a mere 9 weeks after germination! What's not to like? I always wanted to try a Sweet Seeds strain, and this is a nice opportunity to try something rare at the same time 😎.
For this round I have germinated two seeds as I want to give the plants some space in the growbox. With a little LST I should be able to create a nice sea of buds.
Stay tuned and let's see how she grows ✌️
The two seeds popped after a few days and the seedlings look very vigorous. Really strong stems already and they grow fast. I needed to help one of them out of her seed shell, but after that she quickly opened her leafs towards the light 🌱✌️😊
I'm using an airpot and a 11L geotextile pot for this round. They are not the same height, but I fixed this by supporting the 11L geotextile pot. Because of the higher pots I need to do some LST later on as this strain can grow up to 135cm. So far so good!
☘️☘️☘️ Mid-week update
I had an infestation of black flies in the GTools the last few days. It's my own fault though. I mostly buy Plagron soil but in this case I had a sack of Organic vegetable garden soil and I thought, hey let's use this, what can go wrong 😜? Well, the soil was loaded with black fly eggs apparently and they seemed to like the climate in the GTools just fine. Since the larvae eat form the plant's roots these need to be dealt with quickly. I started out with a few fly traps, but after these turned black in a few days I needed to call for reinforcements. The Hypoaspis mite is an excellent way to decimate pests like black flies, eating the larvae in the soil, while the parents get trapped in the fly traps. When I checked this morning, almost all flies had gone 🙌
The black fly infestation continues! The fly traps did catch a lot of them but they are not backing down just yet. The seedlings were slightly turning yellow the last few days. Not sure if it's the soil or the black flies eating at the seedling's roots. The yellow leafs could also be a sign of too little nutrients in the soil, so I started with Alga Grow and Sugar Royal to make sure the plants have sufficient nutrients. I ordered a new bag of Plagron soil just in case. If the situation gets worse I'll just start a new grow with the proper soil. **mental note to self**: don't be a cheap-ass and buy the right soil 😜.
Hey growmies, thanks for stopping by ✌️ The Fruity Donutz are finally picking up speed and growing really well. The black fly infestation is under control thankfully 😊 Still a few diehards that haven't met my flytraps yet, but nothing serious. Since a day or 2 the growth has accelerated and I can almost see them grow bigger by the hour. The Sanlight is now at 100% and I raised it to a safe height to give the plants time to adapt. Thay's all for now. Stay tuned for more updates and pics later this week ✌️😊
Still some issues with black flies as they keep coming back despite of the nematodes. I'll treat the soil with nematodes again this week. It doesn't look like it is affecting the plants anymore but I don't want them ending up in my stash 😉. The plants are looking very strong and healthy, growing even faster than last week. Still not sure at this point if I want to do LST or just let them grow. According to the strain info this ladies can grow up to 135cm inside so it's probably a good idea to do LST at some point. I'm also cutting back on the Alga Grow this week to prevent excess nitrogen in the blooming stage.
The Fruity Donutz ladies started blooming a few days ago. And with the bloom, they vigorously grew in height as well. Unlike last grow I now stopped with the Alga Grow in time so there's no sign of Nitrogen burn, just really abundant growth. The nematodes are doing their job in the soil and the black fly polulation is slowly decreasing 🎉 . The plants do not stretch as much as I feared so I'm going to let them grow without LST. The branches are naturally filling up the empty space in the GTools so I'll let nature follow it's course (as long as the course leads to rock hard buds obviously 😅). Stay tuned for more pics and updates later this week ✌️😊
🌿🌿🌿 Mid-week update
Since the Fruity Donuts were stretching like crazy. The top leafs started showing signs of light stress and I had to think of a solution. One was supercropping the plants, but it felt like a bad idea. HST also has an impact on the plant growth, and both ladies are blooming now. I couldn't raise my light any higher because of the suspension system, but after a good vape I took a closer look at the clips and came up with an idea. By directly hooking the clips to the top of the GTools I got at least another 15cm of extra vertical space 🙌 . Now the plant has enough space to gorw a little bigger and the buds are safe from lightburn.
The Fruity Donutz are doing great! Still stretching but not as much as last week. I turned on the airco in the growroom at a constant 21 degrees to keep the temperature under 25 in the GTools. Heat can also cause the plant to stretch more, and it has another advantage because it helps to keep the humidity down. The Sanlight is now fully raised to the ceiling and the plants have enough space to build those colas.
Removing the suspension cords all together and just attaching the clips to the ceiling was a great solution. Silly that I never thought of this before. Now I don't have to supercrop! Supercropping is HST for the plant, but also High Stress for the grower (at least for me 😅). Not much more to say at this point, but I will post more pics of the developing buds later this week ✌️. Cheers and happy growing!
The Fruity Donutz have finally stopped stretching and are now fully growing their buds. The two plants are two very different phenos where one is turning into a beautiful purple lady. The ladies are very thirsty and I water them two times per day just to keep up. Overall they look very healty and the buds are developing fast. Can't wait to see how they grow this week!
🌿🌿🌿 Mid-week update
Because this strain only has 8 to 9 weeks from seed to harvest I started with a little bit of Green Sensation already to support the blooming. The two plants are developing quite differently. The plant in the back is producing lots of trichomes, even covering the smaller fan leafs as well as the sugar leafs. It would be cool to have leafs with thick resin trails at the end f this grow ✌️. The plant in the front doesn't produce that much trichomes just yet, but it has beautiful purple buds and sugar leafs. Even though they're very different in appearance, they are both beautiful.
The smell is getting stronger by the day and *spoiler alert* it's damn fruity 😅!
The smell of the Fruity Donutz is getting stronger by the day. It's nice to see how different both phenos are developing. One turning into a trichome covered hash plant while the other lady is growing big purple buds. I water them 2 times per day and they're really thirsty. Going from the strain description they have 2 weeks to go now before harvest, but as always I check the trichomes to see when they are at their top potential.
The plants are doing really well ✌️ Last week it looked like the buds growth was slowing down, but this week the buds are growing in size by the day. The strain description says the plant should be ready in 9 weeks, but as things look now it could also be 10 weeks. I don't mind though as she already looks amazing and getting better every day! The plant in the back that didn't have the purple shades is now also turning purple-ish. The resin production on both plants is more than I ever seen in previous grows. The buds and sugarleafs are sparkling every time I open the growbox, and the smell is really intense. My carbon filter is having a hard time keeping the aroma inside the GTools these last few weeks 😅
Will the Fruity Donutz will be ready by the end of the week? Stay tuned for more pictures and updates 😊😉
A final update before the plants are harvested ✌️ It's officially week 10 now, but I plan to harvest the Fruity Donutz in a day or 2. The trichomes are mostly milky but no amber ones just yet. It would be a shame to harvest these beauties before they reach their max potential. They look absolutely stunning, and I can't wait to try them. I plan to chop them down and hang them without doing any trimming, just remove the biggest leafs. They take longer to dry, but it does improve the overall taste and quality in my experience.
Harvest day ✌️✌️✌️ The Fruity Donutz were ready for harvest yesterday. I could have waited until there were a few more amber trichomes, but I wanted to harvest them just before the new moon. This is because the sap flow is calmer at that time, which helps the plants dry faster. At least according to the Biodynamic farming principles. The ideal time would be in 2 weeks form now, but the plants would have withered by then.
I used to prefer wet trimming, but since the last few harvests I just remove the biggest fanleafs and cut the plants by the main stem and hang them in the drying tent. It takes much longer to dry, but the taste is just so much better. Now that autumn is kicking in the temperatures inside are perfect for drying (19 - 20 degrees Celcius and around 50% humidity. I use a sensor in my drying tent to keep track of the humidity. It started out at 69% and is now slowly descending to 67/66%.
The smell of the plants is very intense, mostly red fruit, ripe fruit and pungent. Of course the actual tast will evolve during the cure but I'm already looking forward to the first vape after drying. Stay tuned for the smoke report!
💨💨💨 Smoke report 💨💨💨
After trying both phenos in my PaxPlus, the tagline for this grow has to be "Life is like a box of Donutz, you never know what you gonna get" 😅. The plants show a big variety in appearance and taste as well. The first pheno, the one covered in resin, has a strong ripe banana taste with a little bit of gas. The effect is a strong body stone, but not too much so you can still socialize. Also gives a very pleasant buzz in the head. The second purple pheno has more of a gassy flavor to start with. After a few hits, when the weed is at it's optimal temperature, the sweet red fruit taste reveals itself. And sure enough, this one does leave a kind of pastry taste in my mouth. The effect is a strong head high that kicks in almost immidiately after the first hit.
Since these buds still have to cure I think the taste will be even better in a few months. But it's amazing to see how good they taste "right off the branch" ✌️. I'm so glad I still have two seeds in the fridge so I can grow these ladies again.
Finally, the yield in this round was beyond expectations. 194 grams from two plants in a .35 square cm is a more than decent harvest. 1,43 grams per watt is also a great result.
Thanks for following along and for the uplifting comments 🙏😊 See you in the next grow!
