GanjaGecko 3 Seeds MelloNilla from Square1Genetics were soaked in a glass of water with 2 drops of Seedbooster from Plagron for about 15 hours. After that, the seeds went into small seedling pots. After 4 days in the seedling pots, two ladies have seen the light of day. The third seed probably won't make it. It was the lightest seed of all. Almost still greenish. However, with Square1Genetics, there is one more seed than stated. So far, the extra seed that came for free hasn't shown up. So, no problem at all. Now I just have to hope that both have a similar growth.
The substrate mix consists of about 75% BioBizz Lightmix and about 25% coco with perlite. On top of the finished substrate mix, about 5% Megaworm from Plagron will be added.
Watering was done with 1g/L BioEnhancer and 1ml/L PowerRoots. The pH was adjusted to 6.0 before watering. Each lady received about 30ml in the seedling pots to start. With a small heating mat under the seedling pots and the domes on the pots, a warm and humid climate is created, which the seeds need to germinate initially. On the day the ladies see the light of day, the domes come off, and the ladies will then feel their first breaths of air.
For the first week, the young ladies will make themselves comfortable in a small seedling tent. At least as long as the WeddingCakexBBC is still drying.
May the grow begin.

GanjaGecko On day 6, they were repotted. Two ladies went into 15 fabric pots. The two ladies have now settled comfortably in the 60×60×180cm tent from Spiderfarmer under the Sanlight EVO 3-60 1.5 with a maximum output of 200W. The full power is not being used here; 150W is sufficient for 60×60cm.
Lady#3, as expected, did not make it. However, it’s even nicer that both Mellos are developing quite evenly in height so far. If it stays that way, it would be awesome 💪🏽
The substrate mix consists of about 80% BioBizz Lightmix and about 20% coco with perlite (70/30). For the growth phase, there are about 14L of substrate for each pot. The last liter of substrate will be added with the flowering fertilizer when switching the lighting time to 12/12. Additionally, for soil improvement, there was
- 1TL/L Mega Worm from Plagron.
- 5% BioChar
In the pot where the ladies have found their place, the hole where the ladies are set was sprinkled with some Great White Mycorrhiza and Dynomyco Mycorrhiza. On the surface, there were 60g of BioGrow from GreenHouseFeeding, which was thoroughly mixed into the surface of the substrate.
The soil was moistened with a pressure sprayer/tree sprayer, and then each of the two ladies received 150ml in the saucers, followed by 350ml + 300ml to a pH of 6.0. So each lady got 800ml. At the beginning, it’s not about completely watering the substrate; it should evenly store moisture so that the little roots are not crushed or drowned and can stretch nicely into the substrate.
Additionally, nematodes were added to the water to prevent the pesky fungus gnats.
The Sanlight EVO 3-60 1.5 was dimmed to 40% on day 6 for repotting. This gives the ladies just over 400ppfd. The distance from the LED to the ladies is 40cm.

GanjaGecko Week 2 didn't have much to do. Watering was done carefully again and making sure the environmental conditions were somewhat in the optimal range. Both ladies are still developing quite evenly. Lady #1 is just a tiny bit ahead. If it stays that way, it will be wonderful for the flowering phase.
Unfortunately, I only noticed on day 13 that I had set the timer back to turn off the Sanlight at midnight after the last grow, but I forgot to change the start time from 8 AM back to 6 AM to provide the 18 hours of light. The ladies had a 16/8 light cycle for almost a week. 😒

GanjaGecko Week 3 was exciting. The two Mellos are starting to feel really comfortable and have doubled their height this week. Lady #1 is just a tiny bit ahead. Considering that both ladies come from seeds, they are already very, very similar. Both are also developing their side branches quite parallel. So far, it's really a dream. On Day 19, both ladies received a topping, from which they both recovered well just two days later and are both eager to grow.

GanjaGecko In week 4, the large fan leaves were removed. They were incredibly big for their age and cast quite a bit of shade. The side shoots are now getting plenty of light and can thrive along with their secondary branches. The nodes are still nicely spaced close together.
On day 26, LST was started. The shoots are tied evenly to the side so that no shoot is above another. Lady#1 is currently lagging a bit behind. This will be balanced out with training for Lady#1 and supporting Lady#2 over time. Still very satisfied with the development of both ladies.

GanjaGecko Week 5
In week 5, the ladies have recovered well and are thriving beautifully. On day 32, all the shoots were topped on Lady #1, while Lady #2 had 4 more shoots topped. This allows the side shoots to catch up, and the desirable even canopy is encouraged. Two days later, the ladies have recovered well and are letting the side shoots grow. In between, some leaves were removed to ensure good air circulation and that the side shoots and their side shoots receive adequate light. If all goes well, the ladies will be sent into flowering by the end of next week. Lady #1 is in a real hurry. I will have to give Lady #2 a bit of support. Therefore, Lady #1 has priority, and Lady #2 will have slightly fewer shoots overall, but Lady #1 will compensate for that.
I briefly considered finishing Lady #1 alone since both are in 15L pots. However, I've already invested too much love and effort into both ladies, and I can't bring myself to do it. 😄
This way, you also have two different phenos to choose from when smoking. One has more than the other, but that doesn't matter much.

GanjaGecko Week 6
D36-D42
In week 6, on day 36, the SCROG net was installed. This way, the shoots can be evenly distributed during growth. The last day of this week was also the last day of 18/6. Tomorrow, the ladies will be sent into flowering with the first day of the 12/12 cycle. This month is a bit chaotic time-wise. I might have waited another week, but unfortunately, that's not going to work out. The stretch should mostly be completed before the vacation.
So far, a good canopy has formed. Lady #2 was tucked under again and is now 4 cm below the saucer in total. Lady #1 will definitely be the more dominant of the two, so Lady #2 has to submit a bit.
During the week, some serious defoliation was done, and a few stunted side shoots that wouldn't have made it to the light were removed. This way, the ladies can concentrate on the more potent shoots and stretch.

GanjaGecko Week7/1F // D43/1F - D49/7F
On day 43/1F, the last liter of substrate and additives was added to the pot. The substrate is a mix of about 75% BioBizz Lightmix and 25% Coco with perlite. The ladies now have a total of 15L of substrate, 60g BioBloom (4g/L) from GreenHouseFeeding, 15TL Megaworm (1TL/L substrate), 4TL Batguano (1tsp/4L substrate) from Plagron, some Dynomyco mycorrhiza, and a bit of Great White mycorrhiza as well.
The stretch became visible from day 2 of flowering. Since Lady#1 has a lot of branches, she needs to be organized daily to prevent the branches from getting tangled. There will be some cleanup during the lollipopping anyway. Lady#2 is still a bit more reserved. Therefore, the focus is on Lady#1, and Lady#2 is the follower taking the space that Lady#1 allows her to have. The ladies have tripled in height. Unfortunately, both also have quite long internodes. As long as thick buds hang from them later, that shouldn't bother me.
On day 1 of the first flowering week, the Far Red light strip in the 730-745nm range was plugged back in - the Spider Farmer SUPP-IR 16. This is turned on for 15 minutes as a little sleep aid before the Sanlight goes out and for 15 minutes after the Sanlight goes out. The lighting with Far Red LEDs accelerates the metabolic shift after the light goes out. This allows the ladies to recover better at night and start the new day refreshed.
Plants have an absorption spectrum that sees Far Red light as an indicator of the onset of darkness. We can take advantage of this fact with artificial lighting. The so-called phytochromes are responsible for the absorption of Far Red light waves. These are a type of photoreceptor proteins that influence a variety of plant growth processes. Phytochromes control processes such as germination, flowering, and photoperiodism, which is the regulation of the day-night rhythm. Essentially, there are two types or conformations of phytochromes in plants: The Pr-form (r=red) has its absorption maximum at around 660 nm, and the Pfr-form (fr=far red) at about 730 nm.
What do phytochromes have to do with plant lights? Quite simply: By using the Far Red spectrum, relevant processes like photoperiodism can be specifically influenced to optimize nighttime recovery and thus photosynthesis, leading to better yield results. If the low-energy Far Red radiation stays on for about 10 to 15 minutes longer than the regular light in the evening, it acts as a "sleep initiator." Plants switch to their natural sleep mode faster this way and can use the extra time for recovery.

GanjaGecko Week 8/2F // D50/8F - D56/14F
In week two of flowering, the Sanlight was dimmed to 150W on day 8. This gives both Mellos around 850-900 ppfd. The Mellos received a second scrog net as support for the rapidly growing shoots. By the end of the week, the stretch had slowly subsided. Still, both Mellos grew about 20cm this week. For Lady #2, some shoots that were a bit stunted were cut off because they wouldn't have made it up at all. The remaining shoots are quite vigorous and are more or less at the same height as Mello #1.

GanjaGecko Week 9/3F // D57/15F - D63/21F
Not much happened in week 3 of flowering. On day 56/14F, the ladies were watered, and afterwards, an irrigation system was installed for the 7 days of vacation. The irrigation was set up so that both ladies received 550ml every day. The water was adjusted with mineral pH down to 6.3. In this case, I used pH down Bloom from CannaProfessional. This contains phosphoric acid and is therefore great for flowering. If organic pH down had been used, the pH level might not have remained stable and/or the water could have gone bad. So, with the phosphoric acid, we were on the safe side.
Since the BioBloom slow-release fertilizer from GreenHouseFeeding is in use and the ladies also have a good portion of BatGuano (3-15-4) as a flowering booster in the substrate, a week of just water for the ladies wasn't too bad. On day 62/20F, there was a proper nutrient feeding for the ladies again. Unfortunately, half a liter per day per lady was a bit too little despite the humid weather. The soil was a bit drier than expected upon returning from vacation. However, both Mellos looked top fit. I thought it was better to give a little too little than too much. I need to revise what I said about the internodes. During the stretch, the internodes agreed on a very even spacing. I'm very satisfied.
On day 63/21F, the long-awaited lollipopping took place for both Mellos. Depending on the length of the shoots, one to two nodes were lollipopped differently. Otherwise, the remaining buds are getting good light everywhere. Due to the further stretch, I had to dim the SanlightEVO 3-60 to 130W. The distance from the upper buds of both Mellos to the LED is now only 26cm. Luckily, before the vacation, I had raised the LED as high as possible and dimmed it to 160W in case there was more stretch. And there was a bit more stretch...
Due to the initially higher distance, I had to overexpose a bit to ensure the ladies received their desired 850ppfd. However, when checking the distance and ppfd value today, it was noted that a ppfd value of 1100 is a bit too high given the small distance and without adding CO². Due to the maximum height of the LED and the now not-so-great distance to the buds, the LED was dimmed to 130W. This way, the ladies receive around 950ppfd at the top buds, and the average in the middle range is between 750-800ppfd. If any signs of bud bleaching appear, the LED may need to be dimmed again.

Fertilizing:
Watering is done with water that is kept moving 24/7 with an aquarium pump in a 10L watering can. As much is taken as the ladies require and supplemented with one or another additive, depending on the stage of the ladies. From about week 5, watering is done with 10% of the pot volume. This is done in two to three parts with a spacing of 20-30 minutes. Before each watering, the surface of the substrate is moistened.
On day 55/13F, there was 1ml/L SilicRock, 0.5ml/L BioCalMag, 2ml/L Alfaboost, 1ml/L PowerRoots, 1ml/L PowerBuds, 3ml/L PK 5-8, 1ml/L Orgatex, 1ml/L PureZym, 1g/L BioEnhancer as an additive. Both Mellos received 1.2L in the pot and 200ml in the saucer.

Not much has happened. The buds are continuing to grow nicely, and both ladies are being provided with nutrients and water accordingly. Both ladies are very diligent when it comes to bud trichome production. They have both grown quite tall. The distance to the LED is now only 25cm, so it's dimmed to 140W. After the stretch, both ladies have behaved somewhat similarly. I can imagine that Lady#2 didn't handle the topping as well as Lady#1, which is why her growth has been a bit more restrained. However, both ladies are quite even, and even though Lady#2 has only half as many branches as Lady#1, they are both at a relatively similar height, making care easier, and it's also more advantageous for the lighting.

All in all, the tent is well filled and has a fairly decent canopy.

GanjaGecko Week 12/6F // D78/36F - D84/42F
This week, I had to get my hands dirty again. Some shoots were secured to the SCROG net with binding wire towards the end of the week, so they wouldn't lay down uncontrollably in any direction but stand somewhat orderly next to each other. With the stretch and the buds getting quite thick, I have to keep an eye on them. Here and there, a few leaves were removed, but only a small handful. At this stage, not too many leaves should be removed anymore.
Mello#1 has very swollen calyxes but fewer pistils. Mello#2 has visible pistils but not as strongly swollen calyxes. It's really cool to see such characteristically different traits in the same strain. I'm curious how this will affect the terps.

The development of the buds is unusually strong. The weather right now allows for great environmental conditions. As a result, the ladies are quite thirsty and receive nutrients every other day, along with some pH-corrected water on the days in between. Other than providing the ladies with nutrients, not much else is done. Here and there, a shoot is attached to the SCROG net so that the shoots don’t follow their weight 😄, as Mello is giving Helga some serious competition.

This is the most relaxed time. The buds are getting prettier day by day and are still gaining some mass. From now on, I think it will be a maximum of two weeks until the ladies are hung up to dry. Mello#1's trichomes on the head buds are already a bit milky, and the buds in the lower area won't take long to swell completely. Mello#2 is still a bit more reserved. However, in two weeks, she will definitely be ready to be hung up with a clear conscience.

GanjaGecko Week15/9F // D99/57F - D105/63F
The bud porn photos are all from Day 105/63F.
Mello#1 has turned out beautiful. Color, bud structure, and trichome density are everything you wish for in the garden💚 Mello#2 is gradually getting thicker and denser as well. It could have a bit more color, but as long as the terps are right, I don't mind😄 It's definitely a pheno that takes a bit longer. I'll make sure to find a good balance for both Mellos at harvest. I'm also considering putting the harvest in the DRYFERM bags to dry and have a smoother process. That way, the new seeds won't have to wait for the ladies to dry but can start a bit earlier to save a few days. Or I could harvest separately so that both can be optimally harvested. Maybe I'll try that with the next harvest in the neighbor tent. There's a bit of respect for putting the wet/freshly harvested buds in a plastic bag. Maybe it's just me feeling that way🤣
The ladies have had quite an appetite. With the stretch and massive bud development, it's no wonder😄 For the next MelloRun, I plan to add some bloom fertilizer again in the 3rd or 4th week of flowering. I had hoped that the additives would provide enough nutrients. Unfortunately, both ladies are showing signs of slight phosphorus deficiency on the small leaves of the lower buds. So for the next run, I'll use a bit more PK 5-8 and a bit more GreenSensation or a second round of bloom fertilizer in the 3rd/4th week from GreenHouseFeeding. So far, I'm very satisfied with the run.
Smell/Aroma: Two or three leaves that had some trichomes were removed. This was a good opportunity to rub the trichomes and get a first impression. What really stands out, I find, are rubbery notes with a bit of gas. When rubbed, the smell really reminds me of a new, freshly unwrapped eraser😄
I'm curious about what else will come and what the curing will bring.
In itself, Mello#1 could be confidently hung up to dry. Mello#2 should still build some mass on the middle and lower buds.
Today, on Day 63, I took a closer look at the trichomes of both Mellos. Luckily, Mello#2 is not as far behind Mello#1 as it looks at first glance on the buds and pistils. This means that by the end of next week, at the latest by the middle of the following week, so sometime between Day 70 and Day 74, it will be harvested. Still, Mello#2 should swell a bit more by then.

GanjaGecko Week 15/9F // D106/64F - D111/69F
Not much to do this week. Only minimal watering at the beginning and middle of the week since the ladies aren't as thirsty anymore. On Day 108/66F, I gave them the last 600ml of water each. On Day 111/69F, both ladies were hung up to dry in the tent. The leaves without trichomes were removed for better air circulation during drying, as the fan is tilted towards the ground, directing the "wind" indirectly onto the buds so they don't dry out too quickly. On rainy days, a second fan tilted towards the tent floor helps with some additional airflow, as the humidity can be hard to manage and tends to climb towards 70%. To avoid stagnant humid air, this is my way of playing it safe on those days. On normal days, I can easily keep the humidity around 60%. The 40-50% humidity needed for flowering is a bit tricky, but it's manageable now as long as it doesn't rain all day. With forest and marshland nearby, the humidity is only really low in winter.
Besides, you can't do much with the leaves without trichomes 😄
While removing the SCROG net, I had slight Helga flashbacks. The branches gave in to their weight and sprawled in all directions 🤣
MelloNilla is an unbelievable yield monster!
Mello#2 might have needed another 5 days. Since Mello#1 promises significantly more yield, we went by the ripeness of Mello#1. Still, Mello#2 could be hung up with a clear conscience. The trichomes on Mello#1 are about 10-20% amber on the top buds to the middle buds, 80-90% milky, and 10-15% were still clear in the lower area. Mello#2 had a maximum of 5% amber, about 70-80% milky, and around 20% clear. In the lower area, there were still 20-30% clear. I find the stated 65-70 days of flowering time to be quite realistic.
Also, unfortunately, I always have to consider the work week. That's why I try to plan the harvest days for the weekend.
Terps/Aroma
Mello#1: spicy/gassy with some rubbery notes
Mello#2: mainly rubbery notes, reminiscent of a fresh eraser or new sneakers, the smell of fresh rubber shoe soles
The slight gassy notes were more in the background
I'll definitely go into more detail about the terps in the harvest update. I'm super excited to see each lady on the table and the smell from the dry trim filling the room.

Fertilizing: Watering is done with water that is kept in motion 24/7 with an aquarium pump in a 10L watering can. I take as much as the ladies demand and mix it with one or another additive, depending on the ladies' stage. From about week 5, I water with about 10% of the pot volume. The whole thing is done in three parts with a 20-30 minute interval. Before each watering, the surface of the substrate is moistened.
On Day 106/64F, there was pH-corrected water.
Mello#1 500ml + 200ml in the saucer
Mello#2 500ml + 200ml in the saucer
On Day 108/66F, there was pH-corrected water.
Mello#1 400ml + 200ml in the saucer
Mello#2 400ml + 200ml in the saucer

MelloNilla was really fun. After 69 days in bloom, both Mellos were hung up. The yield is really above average good. Both have developed dense firm buds that wear a dress of trichomes. The trichomes are rather sandy. I think this will work well in the hash drum. Already while grinding, the trichomes fall from the flowers that you crush into the bowl.
When smoking for the first time, especially rubbery/gassy notes come through with a slightly sweet background. The BBC terps are also a bit in the background. Just slightly spicy. I can't quite describe it. They are similar terps that were noted with the WCxBBC.
Smoking is very pleasant. It doesn't press at all in the lungs and smokes wonderfully.

As soon as the vanilla terps come during curing, there will be an update.

GanjaGecko The two ladies were dried in the tent where they grew up. Both Mellos were hung upside down in 3-4 branches at a time. Since quite a bit of mass was developed, the branches could be distributed more evenly this way. In the tent, there were two 5W fans installed facing the ground. Most of the time, only one of the two 5W fans was running. On rainy days, the humidity often went up to around 70%, and on those days, the second 5W fan was turned on to ensure a bit more air circulation to avoid stagnant humid air and reduce the risk of mold. Luckily, this was only necessary for two days. After 8 days at an average of 20-22°C and an average humidity of 55-65%, the two ladies were ready to be trimmed and packed into jars. In the jars, there’s a large 62% Boveda pack for 30g of buds at the bottom, and a 58% Boveda pack for 14g of buds on top. Hoping that this way, there’s always minimal circulation in the jars. The jars are filled with an average of 40g, so when you shake the jars lightly, the buds still move a bit. In the first week, the jars were aired out twice a day, and some air was fanned into the jars to allow for some air exchange. In the second week, air is fanned into the jars once a day. From the third week on, this is no longer necessary. I was quite surprised with Mello#2, that despite having a few less branches than Mello#1, it still yielded so much. I’m really excited about Mello#1! It just yielded 125g. That makes her one of the ladies with the most wood in the shed😄 No one has yielded more for me yet.

@Ganjin, unfortunately not yet specifically. A similar smell comes through like with the WCxBBC. I think it's the BananaButterCups that are coming through. I'm still hoping for the promised vanilla aroma.🤞🏽
@GanjaGecko, The vanilla or dessert and cream terps are much more subtle than the gassy, earthy, skunky, fruit, or candy aroma. That will only come into play after a few weeks of cure. Good luck, and may the vanilla terps be with you, young Padawan. 😊
Crazy yield. I thought Helga was already huge, but those rock-hard buds weigh a lot in the end. I'm happy for you. Enjoy the harvest to the fullest. It's going to be tough waiting 2-3 weeks for the cure, but it's worth it. I only smoke a bit from my last run because I get weak, but you can tell it's not even been 14 days yet. One more week, and then it's my turn to Taste the Rainbow.
@Stony_German, yeah, you can really tell. Helga's buds were a bit fluffier in comparison. You can also notice how well the MelloNilla breaks up when you run it through the grinder. You need way less bud in the grinder to get the same amount out. After about a week, the extreme rubbery terps are slowly fading away. Every day when I air out the jars, it smells a bit different.
Haha yeah, I always get weak right before the trim and set aside a little test bud to try🤣 so two to three weeks of cure should be fine for those😄 I think it should hold for about 8 weeks, and then the Lemonite and WCxBBC will be ready too.
I'm super curious to see when the terps start to really show for you. You have to keep us updated!
@Stony_German, me too! In the update later, you can see that the internodes have also settled on a good distance 😄. I just need to dim the LED a bit because the ladies have stretched quite a bit.
I wouldn't have been able to bring myself to do it in your place either. I always struggle with my 3-4 strains or phenos too. But I think nothing beats opening your box where there are several buds with different flavors and highs in it. 😁😏 Everything looks flawless. They recovered super quickly.
@Stony_German, I think so too. With WCxBBC, Lady#1 was also heavier. It doesn't matter which lady spreads out as long as both are willing to fill the tent😄
Congratulations to the proud father on his long-awaited Mellonilla Babies. Too bad about the 3rd seed, but the other two look healthy. Best of luck in this run!
@Stony_German, haha thanks a lot 🤙🏽 yeah it was the extra seed from them, so it’s not a big deal. As I said, it was so light green that it was clear not much would happen. So far both are growing equally 💪🏽
Congratulations, you definitely master the "game" with various fertilizers and additives - so with that list, I must say, respectful congratulations. And have fun at the harvest!
Hey buddy. They look beautiful. You don't have to worry. I dried about a quarter of my last 2 harvests in the dryferm bags and it was no problem at all. The moisture escapes from the bags without issues, but make sure that the humidity in the room where you dry the bags is around 60%, and keep the temperature below 20 degrees; the humidity is much more important. Why am I saying this? Because I had the bags in the same room as the hanging plants, and everything was fine for me. However, I didn't notice any significant difference. My buddy, on the other hand, had the humidity around 50% and room temperature around 21-23 degrees, and his buds were scratchy, just like if you had dried them without bags under those conditions. Otherwise, everything is good; the DryFerm Bags really work. I had the same skepticism as you. That's why I only dried part of it with them. So enough rambling. 😆 The test smoke of the Iced up Cherries seems to be good. 😁
@Stony_German, yeah I decided to hang the two Mellos to dry tomorrow or Sunday. The best conditions in terms of humidity were in the cabinets. There, it was always around 60% humidity, but the temperatures were at 22-23°C. In the room, the humidity fluctuates between 50-70%. Especially on rainy days, it’s a disaster here regarding humidity. I have an AppleBlossom and a Zmakdaun on the balcony, both of which are photoperiodic, and they will yield in such a way that the boxes with fans won’t provide enough space. The two ladies will then go into the DRYFERM bags. The only question for me is, will it be WCxBBC or Nanaz again? But I’m also considering putting LemonOrange in the garden.😄
