Germination
First Big Thanks to MSNL for selecting me to grow some of their fine strains. They have close to 250 strain options to choose from so it was difficult to choose. Well I chose Fat Bastard along with Purple Hulk, .
This Fat Bastard gets an A+ for fast germination . I planted the seed directly in soil and 3 days later she popped her head up and she had her first true leaves.
6/24 directly in happy frog, coast of Maine & mushroom compost & super soil blend with a central pocket of seed start mix.
6/27 popped soil.

Fat Bastard shot up 4 inches this week and is now 6 inches tall now. Because I have iridium and copper in the water, the ph meter fluctuates due to breaking bonds between the hydrogen and oxygen. The fluctuation range I see is between 6.4 and 6.9 so I’m reporting 6.6. So far, I don’t see any negative effects of the iridium & copper on the plant.
The soil base is Happy frog, Coast of Maine, Mushroom Compost and super soil. I’m giving only ph water to her for this grow. I gave 1 liter of ph 6.6 PPM 376 at 66.7f twice this week

Fat Bastard had a spa day topped, pinned and took off the lowest limbs. She is 8 inches tall after topping. The soil base is Happy frog, Coast of Maine, Mushroom Compost and super soil. I had planned to give only phd water only for this grow, however, two plants in the tent also planted in the same soil blend with Super soil started showing nutrient deficiency I added Recharge, Cal mag and Elm Flower Juice to the water once this week.

Fat Bastard doubled in height with week and is now 17 inches tall. I lightly defoliated some under canopy leaves. I only gave her 1 liter of ph 6.7 water. This girl is growing fast and furious: she means business. Pictures show the stretch and her flowers already puffing up.

This week I’m still trying to resolve lockout issues on two other plants in the tent by lowering the feed solution ph. I usually ph down the water to 6.6-6.8 and discovered the soil ph rose to +9. This high alkaline status contributed, if not caused the nutrient lockout. This week, I lowered the intake ph to 6.35. This reduced the runoff ph to 7.0-7.82. On 7/30 I saw spots on Fat Bastard. It appears she has been affected by the high ph in the nutrient solution. When I discovered the spots, I put her in the bathtub and flushed her with 2 gallons. 7/31 more spots so I flushed another gallon. Let’s see if I caught and stopped the problems in time. I have been watering 1500 ml with 100ml run off. This is low and I will Increase water to 1750ml next time.

This week I’m still trying to resolve lockout issues by lowering the feed solution ph, foliar feeding with nutrients to feed thru the leaves, increasing water, measuring the runoff volume amount and corresponding ph values. Fat Bastard has several yellowing leaves, some with spots and burnt tips of some leaves but appears mostly green at this time. I am hoping since she is least affected by the nutrient lockout issues, I have stopped any further deterioration. Many white pistils are puffing up despite the problems.
8/4. Water feed
Calmag 15ml
Plant Juice 60ml
GH bloom 5ml
Green Sensation 4ml
Feed was ph 6.37, ppm 784 at 65f.
I increased watering to 1750ml with run off was 175 ml at 8.26ph using 6.37. I took her to the tub again for another series of flushing. One gallon at 6.2 and one gallon at 6.0.and finally runoff is 7.23. I added Green Sensation as planned to see if it will help with the PK issues as well as boost bud development. The runoff is better but still high so I’ll lower the ph to 6.1 or 6.2 next time.
The power sprayer finally arrived so I began foliar feeding to help dry out the pot and provide supplemental nutrition to the plants. I made a blend oas follows:
Kelp 2 TBSP/g
Calmag @ tsp/G
ElmDirt /2 tsp/g
PPM 915 Ph 6.45
Foliar feeding 8/6, 7 & 8
This section addresses issues encountered with Super Soil. The intention was to complete a water-only grow from seed to harvest. However, all five plants in the tent are exhibiting similar nutrient deficiencies. The plants are 2 Divine Seeds- Auto Big Demon & Auto Black Opium, 2 MSNL -Fat Bastard auto and White LSD auto and 1 Weed Seeds Express - Blue Dream. Since all plants from different vendors are having issues, it shows that deficiency resulting from lockout is due to the environment they are in rather than seed genetics.
The Autoflower super soil is designed to contain sufficient nutrients for the entire growth cycle. So nutrient deficiency is not the issue presented but lockout. These terms are often used interchangeably but there is a difference. Nutrient deficiency occurs when plants lack the essential nutrients in the soil, while lock out happens when nutrients are present but ae unavailable to the plant due to factors like ph imbalance or salt build up.
I called the company to find out what went wrong. I spoke with him on video chat so he could see my set up and look at the plants all suffering from differing levels of distress. I told him I used a blend of Happy from, Coast of Maine, Mushroom & earthworm castings.
First, he believes that the inclusion of the extra earthworm and mushroom compost additionally charged up the medium. Second, to pull my lights back some since he saw light burn. I raised my lights and lowered the intensity from 10 to 8. Third, to use one or the other of the soil bases, not both. Fourth I should have made layers in the soil. Top layer Happy Frog, middle Happy Frog + Super Soil, bottom all Super Soil. There were no instructions for that layering process on the container (see pics). My container instructions say to mix it into the soil medium throughout-which is what I did. Would you have known to layer the soil as described? I think if that was supposed to be the correct protocol, they should have put it on the freaking bag. With a month left, I am not transplanting to new soil in hopes of recovering. I’m reducing water to 1 time per week and foliar spraying nutrients daily. These are autos and do not like transplanting especially this far into the grow. I hope for the best from this point.
For two of these plants, I used the rooter cubes gifted with the soil. They did well to germinate healthy seedlings. He indicated that the rooter cubes help generate multiple roots rather the one just one tap root. I found some for 50 for 20usd which is economical and takes the worry out of germination.
